MarcMaiden

Android Enthusiast
I get to go to one of AT&T's HQs to do the official training on the Moto Atrix 4g this coming wed! 4 hour long class!!

anyways,

while i cant guarantee that there will be live demos or anything like that (that would be useless if they didnt)

what are your questions about the device so i can try to get them answered?

Ohhh snap so your going on the second as well very cool. Just ask about the bootloader and release date

Dang you're lucky! Pricing and date.

Is there a usual timeframe from training session to release?

Play around with that fingerprint scanning tech that unlocks your phone. I'm curious to know:

a. is it useless.
b. if used, is it slow to unlock.

Thanks!!

I just wanna know how it feels in hand and how the screen quality is, and if it looks really nice in person.

Wow cool, thank you!!!.... lucky bastard! Haha, kidding, kudos for taking requests :)

I second this - I always have a pretty intense password on my phone because, once on my phone, you have access to soooo much of my personal data. The fingerprint scanner is a very big selling point for me.

See if you can go through the process of setting your fingerprint "password" and try locking / unlocking - is you can really dig deep, see if using that feature's corresponding service or app uses very much RAM... although I guess with 818mb available to the user, I guess it won't matter much! Still, it would be very cool if the fingerprint scanner utility is baked into the firmware and doesn't effect the amount of available RAM regardless.

*If they don't let you, would you mind asking a rep to demonstrate unlocking, and watch if it unlocks and it ready to go nearly immediately or like five seconds later. I've used finger print scanners before on computers, but never on a cell phone (obviously), so I don't know how much horsepower is needed to analyze the fingerprint.

Battery life - this may be difficult to do, considering I'm sure you will have limited time to just play with the phone.

Do something that you can replicate on your personal device to try to gauge what the battery life might be like. For example, after boot up, check the battery info in settings, launch, say, a long youtube video (like ten minutes would be cool, but I doubt possible), with brightness comparable to the max brightness on your own device, and play the sound through the external speakers at max, and then immediately check battery life info again in the settings menu. How do the extra pixels, tegra 2, etc stack up perform with that huge 1920 mAh battery?

*Faling that, just try to note the battery life at the start and end of your hands-on time, and try to subjectively guess how well it seemed to stack up compared to your device

3

OK this is REALLY unlikely but if it has market access and they let (or don't notice) you download apps, get some benchmarks, as many as you can. I know some people did this at CES but I was under the impression that the software wasn't totally final, so I'm wondering if it still does as well, or even better, than what was seen then.

4

I often need to use speakerphone - if you can make a call and try to note the volume, that would be terrific.

*Failing that, play any audio file you can find (ringtones, whatever) with the volume cranked... I have a feeling that with all the amazing goodness packed into such a small, somewhat light phone, they may have had to make some speaker sacrifices.

5

This may already be known - but try to figure out exactly what version of motoblur it's running, and if it's newer than what's running on, say, the Defy.

6

Assuming they train you on the laptop dock, throw it through a stress test... can it play music / watch 720p video (I actually don't care really about 1080 but others might prefer 1080), play flash games, etc, simultaneously? How long until it begins to get crazy laggy?

7

Still on the webtop mode, sign into gmail on firefox, and write yourself an email. Does the system then shoot notifications and beep and all that once you receive the message?

8

Just take it all in, inspect every centimeter, and give us your first-hand impressions! How does the display stack up to iPhone's, or SAMOLED, etc? How does it feel? How do the capacitive buttons feels? When you turn it off, how quickly does it boot? Can it scroll through all the screens with relative smoothness if you load it up with apps galore? Any new motoblur apps?

THANKS DUDE! Just to clarify, I of course don't expect you to get all that, but if there is anything in that list you might have time for, I would really appreciate it! The volume / quality of the external speakers are my biggest concern/question, so please try for that especially, if possible!

Oh and one more thing - if history is indicative of future events, does your feb 2nd training at all fit with the rumored 2/13 release?

Thanks again man :)

Wow bro lol guess you thought this out huh lol lol

I dunno why but the thought of some normal dude from phandroid forums getting to give hands-on impressions is way moe exciting than when the big tech news outlets do the same thing... they see new shit so often, I think they might be a little jaded, if that makes any sense. I'm really hoping our good friend Marc here is like "OMGWTF THIS PHONE IS INSANE!!!!!!!!!" ;)

Man I hope he.doesn't.come.back with. Wtf!! All this hype for that lol I mean for all you Atrix guys

I'd like to know:

Will it block non-market app loading like other Android phones at AT&T, or did they finally fix that policy?

What is the max screen resolution for the webtop mode via HDMI? Will it do 1920x1080? Or is it limited to 720p?

And of course:

What is the release date? :P

I'd really like to know the extent of how deep Motoblur is on the handset. A new launcher, SMS replacement app, and not using any of the stock junk widgets can only get you so far. Let us know if everything is basically 'blur'ed.'

I second what most people already want to know.

1) locked bootloader?

2) sideloading apps?

3) will it get 2.3 aka gingerbread as well as plans for 3.0 aka honeycomb?

4) pricing

Thanks :)

Hi all, I'm new to the forums but not to android. I own a backflip and looking to upgrade to the Atrix in June this year, according to AT&T.

MarcMaiden, thanks for taking our questions and trying to find out answers. here are my questions.

1) Since the Atrix has PC like speeds, with out an internal vent port or fan, does it get got during normal us? (Either docketed or not.)

2) Right now on my backflip, on average I am streaming music, on the internet, checking widgets and e-mails, etc. Can you see how it functions running multiple things?

3) Is there an option to use either the finger print scanner, pin code or symbol code?

4) Since it will be using a full FireFox web browsing, will there be available, some kind of firewall that can be installed?

5) When I do upgrade, I would still like to use the apps that I am using now. (Which is OS 2.1) Will these apps work on the Atrix?
