If you're an existing Captivate owner, they shouldn't even ask

Knowing that it's HSPA+ and not LTE is a lot to think about. When I upgrade I do want the LTE technology. I really don't want to get a great phone only to have it not be the true 4G tech.
What phones will/do have the LTE tech onboard then? If I'm going to jump, I want to jump all the way not half.
LTE is not true 4g either. The 4G standard calls for 100mbps on the mobile network, which neither HSPA+, LTE, nor wimax are capable of.
It would be safer to call HSPA+ and wimax 3.5G, and LTE 3.75G.
oops i forgot to post this:
this is a snapshot from a document talking about AT&T's 4g and plans for the year

Quoting that horrible image, ask them the following:
How are they claiming to be the fastest network when Verizon's LTE network is documented faster? Do facts not matter?
How are they claiming 4g speeds when they don't meet the 4g standards? Or are they rolling out mobile 100mbps connections next week?
How are they claiming 4g anything?
How are they claiming to be the only layered technology? T-Mobile has 'committed' with the same viggor as AT&T to having both HSPA+ and LTE.
Consistent speed, when leaving LTE - two things, where's the LTE? and why can't I get more than 900kbps right now over CDMA in the middle of downtown Dallas (or anywhere)?
Android leader? Verizon has 20 current Android phones. AT&T has 7. How is that a leader? Even if AT&T adds 12, that still puts them at 19 Android phones. And even if Verizon adds 0, they still win. But we know they are adding at least 4.
Lastly ask them how the marketing department passed business ethics in college.
I have no qualms with what you said about AT&T being an Android leader though, they are by far the worst today (hopefully that's set to change this year)
Well technically it says they've committed to an industry leading Android portfolio. It doesn't say "hey we're the best Android carrier right now."
Sorry to burst your bubble dude, but HSPA+ IS faster than first tier LTE that verizon is deploying (21mbps vs. 12-15mbps)
HSPA+ IS now considered a 4g technology by the ITU
T-Mobile does NOT have a build out upcoming for LTE anytime soon. (2013-2014)
When AT&T does start offering LTE 2H 2011, the combo of LTE and HSPA+ will be faster than Verizon's combo of LTE and EVDO rev 2.

HSPA+ is not 4g technology according to the ITU. The ITU defines 4g as 100mbps mobile connections or 1gbps stationary. They allow you to call your network 4g no-matter the underlying technology (CDMA, HSPA+, WiMax, LTE, etc). But for it to really be 4g, it needs to meet the requirements (they didn't change or alter the speed requirements). So far only a small deployment of real 4g has been done in Denmark. Nobody else has 4g. ALL the carriers in the U.S. are liars right now.
Newsroom • Press ReleaseFollowing a detailed evaluation against stringent technical and operational criteria, ITU has determined that “LTE-Advanced” and “WirelessMAN-Advanced” should be accorded the official designation of IMT-Advanced. As the most advanced technologies currently defined for global wireless mobile broadband communications, IMT-Advanced is considered as “4G”, although it is recognized that this term, while undefined, may also be applied to the forerunners of these technologies, LTE and WiMax, and to other evolved 3G technologies providing a substantial level of improvement in performance and capabilities with respect to the initial third generation systems now deployed.
T-Mobile and AT&T are both claiming to have LTE, neither does. Doesn't matter to me if it's planned for 6mo from now or 12y from now. They are both fantasizing.
Well, HSPA+ isn't here, so you are quoting what they say it will be. LTE is *testing* at 30mbps in San Fran, Dallas, and New York (it's here, and it's moving). However that's not on a loaded network so Verizon is saying it'll settle at 12-15mbps. And AT&T claims their 3g connection is currently the fastest 3g, but I have 3 phones, AT&T, Sprint and Verizon. Depending on where I am Sprint and Verizon duel as the fastest. AT&T is either the slowest, or un-usable.
Again, talking about future things that don't exist with such certainty is amusing. Cause theoretically AT&T's 3g should be faster than my Sprint 3g, or my Verizon 3g...but in all actuality, I've never seen AT&T better than Sprint or Verizon (in Dallas).
Can you find out the quality of the front facing camera?
Will at&t allow video chat with iphone4 users? or would we have to use a 3rd party app(im assuming the latter is the answer)
also when the phone is on the laptop dock, and you get a incoming call will you be able to answer the phone while it is still in the dock or would you have to disconnect it?
Thanks!!

This is probably more dependent on the iPhone 4 being able to video chat with a non Apple device. I don't think AT&T cares but Apple certainly does. At least for now.
Tango works for video chatting Android to iOS. Not sure if other 3rd party apps do. And yeah, it's all about apple. Didn't Jobs say he wants to make FaceTime the "standard" for video chatting? Perhaps they should make the app available for other OS'
