Do you have to be a student at purchase time to qualify? How quickly would one see the rebates-credits?
 
I lucked out on the Amazon deal. I had been planning to dump iOS/AT&T for Android and had been researching for about 3 weeks when I ran into the deal ($99/waived activation/2-day shipping) that same evening it was supposed to expire (midnight on Oct. 18). Amazon eventually had to ship it overnight instead of 2-day shipping on the 6th day because I was biatching about why it's taking so long to ship it when it showed "available" online.

It's a Version 3 and the number stamps on the red panels on the back says either "10/08/11" or "10/08/30" which I assume are manufacturing/QC inspection date stamps. It was shipped with Froyo. It appears brand spanking new with protective packaging and all and have been enjoying it since.

The $36 activation fee was credited on my first statement which I received about a week or so later and there was no charge for porting over my existing iPhone/AT&T number.

Good to hear, hopefully Amazon will offer that deal again soon, they have the Epic for $99.99 now & other Galaxy phones as low as a penny. The EVO was in my Amazon cart during that sale but didn't pull the trigger because I wanted to learn more about the EVO lookalike Incredible HD Nov 23 Verizon rumor but frankly unless it's comes with improvements over EVO like camcorder, display, storage, LTE, not sure it would be superior to unlimited Sprint data on EVO 4G. If Sprint didn't require that 24 month contract (whether bought with subsidy or even full retail:eek:) it would be a much easier option to try..

You have 30 days to try it out...you dont like it...you cancel, return the phone and pay nothing...Just dont port your number until you know for sure.

When I was manager at a Sprint store and people talked about full price to be out of a contract when you could do that, I always told them you could be throwing money away...

No Contract/ Full Price Phone = Paid $350 (cl or ebay) for an Evo non contract. You cancel 3 months later you can get $250 for the used evo so you are down $100 bucks.

Contract Option= If you sign a contract and pay $150 for an evo...you cancel in 3 months that evo can be sold for $250 to pay off the eft of $200...and you still have $50 bucks left....

If they subsidized the phone they are essentially paying for the $200 ETF for me up front & I always get the 30 day trial so that definitely helps me to consider trying Sprint but 24 month contract in this day & age is still a really long time..

If I were to buy today would probably get at Wirefly with additional online coupons mentioned above but I feel I should wait to learn more about the Incredible HD-LTE? as well as play with the Samsung Tab. The EVO does already have a solid developer community build however.

Sprint is actually the only major carrier that is still telling me they require 24 month contracts with $200 ETF even if they didn't subsidize the device while Verizon, AT&T & T-Mobile all have month to month options for unsubsidized devices..
 
I wouldn't get any phone until at least all the Black Friday deals are known.. that being said, Tigerdirect (through Wirefly/Simplexity) is offering the EVO for $139, I think that's the cheapest currently, but as I said before, I suspect we'll see the EVO hit $99 again by some retailer.

I could hold out until Black Friday but rather not wait until CES in early 2011 but the Incredible HD may be worth the wait?:

I really don't want to wait either but I expect we will at least know more about the Incredible HD/4G by Black Friday & whether it's worth waiting for:

Top dog phones will likely hold their position for a briefer period of time as the pace of progress continues (I was even waiting for projector phones to come to the US by now) but the EVO does already have that well established developer community now.

It's just a shame that one might feel regret so quickly in a product's life cycle..:eek:

With all due respect and maybe I am misunderstanding you, but the EVO has been out for over 5 months and it STILL claims top dog status. That is an ETERNITY in the tech world. If you want to wait around for the next best thing, then yes, you will always have regret when you buy something that has been on the market for awhile. With this logic, the sooner you buy it in it's life cycle, the less regret time you will have!!! IOW, don't wait around for the device to become obsolete or you will be singing that tune every time!!!! You have sat around on the sidelines waiting for a good pricing deal and then you "complain" about it's obsolescence??? They are related ya know!!!....Jus sayin'!!!

I played with the EVO on launch day for hours (til the battery was almost dead), if it had 2.2 at the time I would have picked it up.

While it's currently my favorite form factor, its 16 bit color display & camcorder quality could be better, issues I hope-expect would be corrected with the Incredible HD.

At first there was talk that the Incredible HD may become available on November 23, now looking closer to February so I will likely pick up an EVO (or much less likely Galaxy tab) by Black Friday because I'd like it for the holidays but whenever possible I try to buy a product with a solid life cyle.

I guess if the Incredible HD is so much better, I could pay the Sprint ETF & keep the EVO as a hacker backup, gift it or sell it. $300 ($100 EVO on Amazon, $200 ETF) may be justifiable for me considering I don't see anything better for the holiday horizon yet..

If I could hold out to CES a better long term purchasing decision would likely be made but I'm not sure I want to wait til 2011 despite the accelerating pace of innovation. There is still talk that the Incredible HD may be available in December so I guess I could also exercise the 30 day return policy as well on an EVO.

I could get by on my gifted 3GS but I really prefer Android.
 
If there is an Incredible HD on the horizon, there will likely be an EVO HD as well....only seems logical. I think the only reason you don't hear of it is because HTC is not saying a peep because the EVO is still selling so well. Once EVO sells start to taper dramatically, then you will see a successor to the EVO. And all EVO users will likely jump all over it. Anyway, all fun stuff. I honestly think the phone manufacturers outdid themselves on this round of phones. They are so damn good that they are having to catch their breath to one up them. And the people(me) are quite happy with the (now 5 month old) device. The EVO is a great phone. If you get it and get bored with it, root it and it becomes new all over again. The HTC devs sure are an ambitious bunch. ANyway, take care and good luck!!!

PS...get the Tab AND the EVO(or Inc HD)!!!!!

What's interesting is that the Incredible HD/4G uses the EVO's 4.3" kickstand form factor not the Incredible's 3.7" so I'll be curious to see what HTC does later with upgraded models. There's a forum here already for the Incredible HD.

I would indeed root it at some point & the established EVO dev community is a major bonus. There were actually times when I was ready to get the EVO & it was sold out which was annoying then I keep hearing more about the Incredible HD that I first saw posted about back in August. I'd pre-order an Incredible HD if available soon because it will likely sell out too.

There will be lots of great powerful tablets soon too so the Galaxy Tab also deals with life cycle concerns. 1080p capture & HD displays seem to be promised for Q1 handsets which sounds awesome (& may make EVOs envious):eek:

I know the EVO would make me happy NOW but for how long would be the question..especially with that Incredible HD refresh & others around the corner.
 
$150 at radioshack.com as well. Mine arrived today. Stuck at work so I can't play with my new toy yet. So ready to get rid of my moment.

Congrats dude. I came from the Moment as well...it is an entirely different world. You will love it!!! I have had mine since launch and am still very stoked on it. Have fun!!!!
