Google Maps 5 is Out

Google Maps 5 is available in the market.

I'm not able to get the two finger twist gesture to twist the map. Anyone else have any luck?

I don't mean to hijack this thread or anything, but for the life of me, I still can't get Google Maps to find my location indoors. When I had my iPhone, it pulled up within a few seconds exactly where I was indoors without a problem. Anyone have any suggestions with settings I can change to make Google Maps find me?

Do you have Use Wireless Networks turned on in your GPS settings?

I've been having issues simply downloading the new Google Maps. It won't install, it just quickly show's downloading and that's it.

Yes, it's turned on. Most of the time it tells me it can't find my location, but just as I opened maps again, it shows a 1700 foot accuracy. Is this how the iPhone determines location? Via wireless networks? When I turn GPS in the same section of the settings, my GPS icon in the status bar just blinks and blinks meaning it can't find a lock.

To be clearer. I can get everything to work. 3D buildings, tilting, compass mode, and offline maps. However the two finger twist does not. I am running rooted JH7. Maybe the twist is a Froyo thing.

In most cases it won't lock indoors unless you're near a window. Your phone can't see the satellites through the roof.

Got a reply from a Google employee:

"Hi all

Just wanted to update. It appears that rotation gestures for Galaxy S series phones require Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) or Galaxy S series phones require Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) or later and won't work on Eclair/2.1. Apologies for the lack of information on the 'Supported Devices' article - it's been updated.* updated.

Best
Tom"

Nice post. If only Samsung was as responsive and honest

I can't seem to get this update to download.....I have the Aria - unrooted. In the Android market it says I already have it installed-which I do (version 4.--) Any help??

my home wifi won't let maps find my location at all but turning it off it finds it right away.

Just downloaded and installed, works great on Froyo. Although it did seemed liked it was stuck at the "downloading" part for a while, maybe its some really complex install.

What is this "2 finger twist"? When I drag down with 2 fingers, the map tilts..is that it?

Edit: btw, this update is excellent IMO. The ability to point in the direction you're going is nice..altho that's been available on Iphone for awhile-go figure

How do you get 3d buildings? The compass mode is pretty cool, not too sure what the "tilt" gesture would help me out with though.
