Google Voice has taken over my phone

Lurker
I flashed the deck [1.2x][2.3.4 Beta] rom yesterday, then reinstalled my apps including google voice. Now all my text and voice mail goes through google voice. I tried installing handcent hoping it would default my texts but that didn't work. I am guessing that google just released this new version with the text feature added since there are a lot of negative comments in the marketplace with yesterday's date. Does anyone know how I can default my text messages back to handcent? I even nandroided back to asop 9.9.2 which didn't help either.

I think you have to login to GV from a PC and go into settings and make your changes there. you will still receive text on both apps I am told, but you can turn notification of on the one for GV

Not possible for texts, all texts will run through Google Voice now and not any other messaging app. MMS messages will be sent through the stock messaging app or Handcent.

Until something changes from Google or don't use GV

Thanks guys, I was afraid of that based on the comments I was reading in the market. I think google messed up a really good thing, hope they sort it out.

I'm getting used to it now but you're right, Google probably needs to straighten this out

I have had no issues with receiving text on both apps, and I assume that is because I never merge my accounts, which I am glad. So far still working as it did before.

EDIT, actually I think I already have an HTC registered account, so I assume I sign it with that, will check it at work

I thought that was only if you ported your phone number over to Google Voice. You know, using that Sprint and Google Voice integration service.

If you keep them separate, all should continue to be separate in terms of text messaging. I really have no interest in merging my phone number with Google Voice at the moment as I like having them separate.

Same here, if you keep the numbers separate you should have no issues.

Ya the trouble is it is easy to merge the accounts when installing google voice again after flashing a new rom. Happened to me today after flashing mik 2.1( great rom) i mistakenly checked the part which said to merge accounts and i chose my GV number. i expected as in the past that i could choose to use either number to call out as before but i was wrong that option has apparently disappeared and all my out going call were stuck on GV. i drove myself crazy trying to switch back but there were no phone settings i even flashed to synergy (another great rom) and then did a nandroid back to koni III still the phone number would not go back, finally i checked my GV account which let me switch to my old default cell number which is apparently now my GV number too and my old GV number is a back up which will expire in 3 months unless i pay $20 to google to keep it. wow what a mess, so be careful when installing google voice

BTW i am on a rooted evo 4g so runs across the platform

Yeah. I heard it was easy to inadvertently merge your phone number with Google Voice. :(

I wonder why they have it set up that way. That is one of the few times I would love to have a "are you really sure you want to do this" warning. :D

Sprint and Google voice have joined together now. So when you set it up from the beginning it asks if you want to integrate or not. You pushed yes. You have to go on the internet, go to google voice, go to settings, and change the phone integration. I believe its a box you uncheck. I had the same problem, but this fixes it.

yep log onto your GV account and click on the phone number on the upper right that will take you to the page where you can undue the damage

Here is what it looks like so you can enable and disable

I think if you have merged your phone number with Google Voice via the service offered by Sprint, you are stuck with text messaging via Google Voice. I have not merged mine though, so I am not 100% sure on that.

There may be a setting in your Google Voice account when you log in to it on your computer. I would look around in there.

i have been looking around the settings on the google voice via my computer.

tried a few settings...tested....
the only way.. that i can see is get rid of the whole google voice. go back to sprint voicemail. which i have not used in over a year.

I am not convinced that will work, I think once you merge, you are merged, even if you delete, unless they come out with a process that allows you to change it, if I am wrong, let me know as I know many are interested to be proven wrong, LOL

i am not ready to kill google voice yet....

i want to find a solution..

i might try to live with this new texting process to see how it might be a benefit.

You can still receive your text simply disable text from GV and notifications
