Root Google Wallet and ROM flashing

Can anyone with experience with Google Wallet and flashing ROMs please post what the correct procedure is so that I don't lose use of Google Wallet after flashing a new ROM?

I use Google Wallet every time I can and tomorrow I am going to flash my phone back to complete stock so that I can get my OTA update, then I'll be re rooting. I just don't want to lock out Wallet in the process.

is there another update coming out? i have aokp the latest 12/5/12 right now i have google wallet set up tho i've never used it yet but its up and running idk if it will work or not tho on the top it of the application it says unsupported device learn more ::::

We are unable to support devices with unauthorized operating systems as the security layers of the device may be limited.

so if u can use it idk i'm guessing u can
tho i might of misunderstood you if you want the right google apps so u can have wallet after root i found that on xda-developers

If you don't do this, you will lock yourself out of the secure partition of the NFC chip, and can not unlock it.

Have you tried to use it, or do you have a way of knowing if you are locked out? Right now there seems to not be a consensus on if a ROM flash with still lock the secure element of Wallet.

BTW, that warning message is just that. It is a warning that Google does not officially support Wallet on rooted devices. It still works fine and has no effect on the actual usage of Wallet.

Well I "reset" the app completely, but when I set it up again, it keeps saying that my card's "request failed". Any ideas?

EDIT: I guess that it was cyanogenmod causing the problem. I saw the sticky about google wallet and possibly bricking your nfc partition (if that's what it is), and got really worried. But I just flashed the stock image from Google's developer site, which replaced the boot.img, recovery.img, etc, with the stock ones. After that, google wallet worked like a charm.

Yeah, as long as you reset, you should be good. Bummer than Cyanogenmod is having issues, though.

Well after all the discussion I actually forgot to reset Wallet before flashing back to a factory stock ROM and recovery so that I could get my OTA. Flashed to stock, updated, rerooted, then was like "s***, hope Wallet still works !" That's what happens when you go messing around with your phone after a few drinks, sometimes you forget things.

Everything still works fine :thumbup: I've used Wallet a couple times since then, and everything is great.

yeah I think that secure element issue went away when wallet started using the cloud to process transactions and allow the use of all major credit cards. I stopped wiping wallet with my lte evo and flashed multiple times without resetting wallet, and wallet still worked. (well, that is it worked when I could actually find a place with a working fastpass machine)

and yes, you will see an unsupported device line at the top of the app, but it still works.

I guess if you really really want to be safe you can continue to reset wallet before doing a full wipe though
