Got my electricity bill for this month...(The summer time thread)

I'm worried to receive my first electric bill. I feel like I've been doing a fairly good job at managing my usage. I set my window air conditioner to 76F

Brought this post back from last year. Just received my first big bill of the year. $304 for the month of June. I hate pg&e!!!

We're in the sticky situation of not getting a bill since March. Just noticed that we hadn't paid one (we're setup for automatic payments). I'm guess there's some sort of glitch or they're billing someone else (no idea why this would just randomly happen).
Looks like I'll have to give Pepco a call eventually and get slapped with a huge bill. :(

I really hate to see my June bill since the past couple of weeks and all of this current week, temps are reaching in the 100s.

in fla here, mine is around 170 average. around 2000 sq ft, pool, hot tub,no kids, wife doesn't work, just the norm.

My bill for May was $113. Replaced my 28 year old heat pump system in March , went from an 8 SEER to a 13 SEER and a 1.5 ton to 2 ton unit. The old system during the sumer last year would not keep the place cool with the thermostat set to 75

I have 9 facing south and 6 facing east.

I live in Tucson, where it has stayed above 100 degrees for a while now. My electric is included in my rent. My rent is $550. There are 2 window units built into the wall, and the place is not insulated at all, so around 6pm the whole apartment gets pretty damn hot even with both air-conditioners going full blast, and it doesn't cool off again until about 10pm. I like my apartment though, even though it is in a bad part of town. One of my neighbors just got shot, and I am pretty sure they are all on drugs...now that I think of it, maybe I should move!

It will pay for itself in 6.5 years. I got them 3 years ago.

After that, it's the opposite of expensive. It's $300/month in the bank for me during the summer.

My crazy house is a series of vaulted ceilings with 4" insulation. I have four sliding glass doors and lots of other large windows. Lots of glass plus next to no insulation was killing me when running a/c

well good for you and that is good for the enviroment too!!

My electricity bill flirts with $500 in the summer. Mainly because we closed in the garage and turned it into a mother in law suite, and have a portable AC instead of a window unit due to covenants. I did the math, that unit adds $125 per month by itself. (we did route House AC out there too, but it's just a poorly insulated room, and we couldn't afford to tear out the drywall and install insulation.)

I had some 300+ buck bills in the summer time, here in Tempe, AZ. I have a small condo, and decided to replace the west facing windows with insulated ones, replaced the AC with a newer unit, and got rid of my 40 year old fride, and oven (ok.....42 years old....but they still worked.), Now, I run about 150 to 180 keeping the temp at a cool 78*. I installed a Solar water heating system, and it never worked correctly, and the company went belly up.....So now I have some cool looking worthless solar pannels on my roof.....that do nothing. Interesting thing abou thte solar pannels.....My HOA (who I hate with all my being), told me I had to move my sat. dish. because it "didnt look good", so I asked "what about the solar pannels?". NOPE! Those were fine. So.....My sat. dish is re located to a more visually pleasing location, while the solar panels are in the same place. Ya know.....One of my neighbors has his bath tube on his patio for the last year and a half......Im wondering if the HOA has said anything to him about it......

must be nice to be rich.....also san jose has nice weather compared to Bakersfield!
I dont think solar pannels on ones home are a good indicator of ones financial solvency. Being as She mentioned how much She is projected to save, I would think she is making a financially prudent move with the purchase (or are they leased? Out here they can only be leased). Now.....If She was to state, "I keep my house at 42* all year so I can wear my new fur coats all the time!!"......THEN, I would consider her in the more wealthy class of Americans, AKA "Rich". Or..... I would think She was insane. Regardless, in many cases the two go hand in hand.

I pay between $60-70 a year for electricity. So I'd say 97% :)

And I run the heck out of my a/c during the summer.
A friend of mine just had some of those installed on His home. he has a larger set up, and is projected to make 75 to 200 bucks every month. His goal was to be completely "off the grid" with his set up.
