Root GPS.conf mods via someone at xda forum

I tried doing the zip this morning to no avail. On the plus side, I got the GPS to say I was within 30 meters of my place once today so that's progress although the rest of the time it is just lost.

Guess it's hit and miss, hopefully an official fix comes out

I have to say that with this updated file this phone has the most amazing GPS of any phone I have had. THis this got me on the spot..not 10 meters its right dead on. I was outside standing next to my car and using satilite view it literally showed me right next to my car. As I walked in my house it followed me on the nose! there was no blue circle around me at all.

This fix also did not work for me. Neither did the libraries update. I tried letting Gpsfix try and fix for 5 minutes, most of the time it showing 5-6 satellite connections, but it never got a location fix. I'm not even sure I've ever seen it fix my gps location...

That conf file worked great.

isaac, I would love if you would include it with your CM7 build as it seems like alot of people are having their issues fixed with it.

I'm sorry man. I think Some people just got crap phones. My GPs was fine I just updated for the hello of it and now it's even better.

hey i had the same problem with it not changing the performance of the gps.... but then i thought that id turn the gps off and then back on. BINGO! it worked.... locked in under 2 secs. if you were one of the few who didnt notice any changes, like me, try just turning off the gps and then turning it back on. :D hope it worked!

wow, it worked for me, I can't believe it.

I installed this within a matter of minutes and it has greatly improved my GPS. Before I couldn't even lock unto 1 satellite in gpsfix and now I lock unto 7! The best way to do this is install gingerbreak. Download the GPS.conf file unto your sd card. Now I used es file explorer and gave it permissions to write in the system files (its in the settings of es explorer). I went to the file on the sd card and copied it unto the clipboard. Then I went to the system folder of the phone and then the folder etc. I then pulled up the clipboard (little tab in the middle at the bottom) held down on the new file until I got options for it and clicked paste. You're set! I simplified this for us noobs here ;-)

i went back to the stock gps file and now it locks on instantly after using the updated one and it never worked, awesomeee

I was comparing the GPS.conf files from stock OV, and the TRIUMPH, and this is what I found:

OV:

# Intermediate position report, 1=enable, 0=disable
# LGE_CHANGE_S[wonkyung.kim@lge.com] 2010-07-13, GPS: Intermediate Pos On */
INTERMEDIATE_POS=1

TRIUMPH:

# Intermediate position report, 1=enable, 0=disable
INTERMEDIATE_POS=0

**EDIT**

I changed from 0 to 1 and it now locks on almost instantly

Turning that on will result in positions being returned before there is a lock. It will be wildly inaccurate until it gets a lock (maybe by a thousand feet or more) but if that's good enough then have at it.

I personally cannot live with that change, although I did play with it.

Ok, so maybe that is why the MT takes longer to "lock" than the OV?

No.

Near as I can figure the OV is powering itself on at some sort of interval and getting a lock on a more-or-less continuous basis. It thus is basically "always on" which allows it to come up on an effective instant basis, provided it can actually see the sky.

I don't know exactly how LG is doing it but it's VERY impressive and something I've not seen in anyone else's implementation.

Incidentally there's a parameter available in the config for exactly how imprecise an intermediate position you will accept, which allows you to bound the box somewhat. Use judiciously as remember that EPE (estimated position error) is just that - a guess.

Made no difference here, still unable to get a GPS lock at all.

I don't really care that much since Ihave a Garmin
