GS3 Case discussion thread

Sorry if this has been addressed....I'll own up to not having read all 26 pages of the thread.

Is a case for the S3 really necessary? I know the gorrilla glass is tough stuff. Is the case mostly for impact protection in case it's dropped? Will a cheap case provide that?
Having had to replace a phone already because of droppage, YES a case is necessary. I had the Rock case on it and love the feel but the phone landed near the large bottom button and smashed the screen. I guess "gorilla glass" looses out to cement from four feet. In the market for a real case and dumping the Rock case.

It seems to me, I need to go a get a Speck Case. That image above looks NICE!

I'm back to my Otterbox Defender, the Commuter is rather too slippery for me.

After reading on this thread for the last two hours, I've finally scanned all pages! Woah! There are some great cases out there. Since I'm new here, I can't post pictures but I did want to comment on the case I'm using. I saw a couple of people here have it too, it's a Speck Candyshell. I have the "Pebble Blue/Bayou Grey" one on my Blue GSIII. I have to say, it's a pretty good case! I like that it has the two layers of protection, hybrid aspect, all in one piece. It doesn't add much bulk to the phone and on a blue gs3, looks great! It does have some cons though, the back is glossy so you do get a lot of hair line scratches all over. If looked at on an angle, you can see all the thin scratches, but nothing too major if looked at normally. Another thing about this case is that it fits so well that when you take it off, you kinda have to give it a good pull from one of the corners to take it off. This has caused my case to break from the areas that take the bend, for example mine's broken on the area right below the camera cutout, the thin space between the power button and the screen, and the part above the charger cutout. Speck did think of this problem and tried to avoid it by leaving the four corners with a material that is more flexible, in order for them to pull avoiding the pressure on other areas of the phone, but it seems it hasn't worked. I have read online on Speck's websites under the reviews of the case that this problem has affected lots of users. I contacted Speck and they do cover this under their warranty as long as purchased from an authorized retailer. I think that it's not a major problem because as long as the phone is in the case, you can't even notice where the case is broken, BUT for the price Speck charges for these...it definitely is a problem.

Besides Speck, I haven't really tried any other cases, that's why this thread has been of great use to me. Has anyone tried those cool looking 3D cases by FreshFiber? I like all the funky designs they have. After looking for minimalist cases like the Box Case by incase for the iPhone (really wish they made one for the GS3), I stumbled upon this case made by FreshFiber. It's called the Book Case. It's not quite the same style or anything but still kinda cool. I was going to get the cheap cassette silicone ones from Amazon, since they do have that "boxy" rectangular look, but I was looking for something more hard shell. I emailed FreshFiber asking if the material was hard or soft, and they replied to me that this case is made of "laser sintered Nylon" and was hard rather than soft and flexible. I think I'm gonna get one and see how it actually looks.

The cracking only affected that color of the Speck cases. I have a black Speck Candy Shell and have removed it many times with no issues.

I got an Acase from Amazon and like it a lot. Was a reasonable price and fits really well without adding a bulk.

I love the idea of a waterproof case, though. The link provided doesn't give a price, though, just says "coming soon". That may go on the birthday \ Chrismas list!

As I posted before, I was very happy with the speck candy shell. It's slimmer than other cases the provides good protection. But after just few weeks the lip started to peel. It's rough and it's ugly. Sorry. Now I'm using Casemate barely there. Maybe I'll purchase a one commuter or ballistic.

I bought the Ballistic... I'm a case junkie, I have come to realize.
The Ballistic looks nice and probably protects as well as the Otterbox Defender, but the holster is really cheap. I went back to the Defender.

To anyone buying the otterbox commuter: I love this case, I bought the Glacier color and it really looks good on the white s3, however the lock button on the side has a really hard time lining up so you have to press the button really hard. Well when I posted about this in another thread the suggestion to put a piece of a q-tip in the button was great advice. The case now works effortlessly. Also when I contacted Otterbox they simply ask you to submit a photo proving you really bought a case and they send you a new case no questions asked. This is why I go with otterbox, I have had upwards of 10 otterboxes over the years from my iphone 3g all the way up to my S3 and they really stand behind their products.

Just my two pennies.

We'll have pricing information soon for the OBEX. The case is going to be available in Black, but feel free to make a color request, I'll make sure to pass it along!

I would prefer the blue, the same as the Active and Surface case Blue. I bought both of those in the Blue.

I have the red S3 from AT&T.

I am guessing BLACK will most compliment that color.

I am just looking for a slimline TPU case that offers excellent grip in the rear and just enough lip across the front that it protects the glass in case of a fall.

Anyone find the perfect TPU case that fits that description with perfect cutouts?

I have another update on the Superleggra Dual!!!

I dropped my phone onto the asphalt yesterday and after it bounced around 3 times it came to rest screen side down. No damage whatsoever to the phone/case! It bounced because it hit the corner where the silly cone :) is. I saw it drop, I saw it bounce, I saw it hit the corner, "I CRINGED". I picked it up and everything was fine, totally fine! drop was only about 3 - 3.5 ft off the ground though.

Okay, Ches, you sold me.

Going to order one from Amazon today.

This doesn't add a considerable amount of thickness to the phone?

I will say the right now I have a Speck candyshell case and I love it. Although I am waiting for the Seido Obex case since with my iPhone I loved my lifeproof case
