Root [GUIDE] 100% Stock LG Optimus V (All Versions)

Well, in as much as I have plenty of time on my hands, I'll give it a try. I'll have to familiarize myself with the material and methods(Google be berry, berry good to me). Read over this thread, etc.

okay, i listed this in asadullah's [rom] stock virgin thread by request.
it's a copy of his rom but patched. i stuck a new stock kernel to the original 2.2.1 ramdisk, so the boot.img from the zip i linked above is what you need to make a 2.2.1 stock rom work with new screens.
the whole zip can also be used (it's not flashable by the way, it's a nandroid backup zipped up)
asadullah says it's only lightly modified from true stock to allow adb remount and include superuser and flash_image.

If your wondering Checksums for: optimusV_stock_nandroid_and_recovery.zip
MD5: 50ec9a74c40c0a91ae20a398d122b2d2
I will add it in after I am out of probation.

I'm getting stuck flashing the stock rom. When I get to the step of:

-select "backup and restore"
-select "restore"
-select "BCDS-20110203-0357"

it gives me this error:

Checking MD5 sums...
Erasing boot before restore...
Restoring boot image...
Error while flashing boot image!

I am using ClockworkMod Recovery v3.2.0.0 and am coming from the IHO rom. Any help is appreciated!

It is about a year old, however, I did send it in to LG for warranty work in May 2011, where I believe they wiped and updated the software my phone since it came back stock. I did notice that before I sent it in, I could enable wifi hotspot tether without root using an app. After I got it back, this was no longer possible without rooting.

I do have a nandroid backup from right before I flashed my first rom (after I got it back from LG). As far as I can remember, it was stock before that rom. Should I restore that backup first, then restore the stock rom here?

VM has removed our ability to do this. It's against their terms of service. There isn't anything we can legally do about that. Sorry.

No, that would be redundant. I'd just go with the stock ROM.

Hang on...if they "repaired" your phone, you might have the newer screen after all. You should check on that before you proceed. Look earlier in the post, you'll see a link to where you can test your phone, and know for sure.

I tested my phone using terminal emulator with both codes:

dmesg | grep hitachi dmesg | grep novatek
but they both returned the same message:

grep: permission denied
write: Broken pipe

PerkinsII, glad to see your back. Boy that sure takes a load off me.
I will be adding in the stock nandroid of the newer version :) and adding/changing the guide for it.

*Edit added links, titles, and md5 checksums, but won't be adding the actual guide till tomorrow/way later tonight. Got finals to study for. :(

I

I am using ClockworkMod Recovery v3.2.0.0 and am coming from the IHO rom. Any help is appreciated!

It could be your recovery's not helping if you really have version 3.2.0.0
This version doesn't work real well with the "V"
You need 3.2.0.1

If you do have 3.2.0.1 and you flashed it from ROM Manager you might not have the proper flash_image installed.
When you open up a terminal emulator on the phone and type in: su ,do you get a # or $?

Just trying to eliminate things so we can zone into the real problem what ever that might be.

I do have v3.2.0.0 and su returns #. I will try both recoveries in the updated OP and see if that works

The 2.2.2 rom gives me the same error:

Checking MD5 sums...
Erasing boot before restore...
Restoring boot image...
Error while flashing boot image!

I just flashed a new recovery (VM670NH_recovery.img) from here: http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-...-how-simplified-root-recovery-custom-rom.html

which says CWM-based Recovery v4.0.1.5

I want to be sure I use the correct version rom from above. Whats the consequence of using the wrong rom? I will still be able to restore a backup correct?
Check the md5 checksums on your computer, make sure they match and if anybody could verify (someone with fast stable internet) the checksums as I have slower internet.

The 2.2.2 ROM should be used if you have the Hitachi screen.
The 2.2.1 ROM should be used if you have the Novatek screen.

I checked the md5sum

The 2.2.1 I got two different md5 sum's
The 2.2.2 checked out good.
I'm thinking the problem is the download site on the 2.2.1 or maybe the reason the 2.2.2 was good was because it was a rar file?

He posted the md5sum with each download. Once downloaded you compare the two and there md5sums should match if good. If corrupted they will not match.

I have AVF(Android File Verifier) from the market. I just long press the downloaded file after opening up the app and pressing select file. I select the first option when the window pops up and when done it gives the md5sum of the download.

Oh I misunderstood and thought it would help me check to see what screen I have. I tried again to restore the roms in the OP using a different recovery and am still getting the same error.
