Hmmmm. Have you tried a different USB port? I have seen it get stuck at 'big partition size' but i don't recall a definitive solution.

reboot PC

Reinstall drivers
Try again
Use different USB port
Try again
Use different USB cable
Try again
Use different computer
Try again

(Use different phone? :D )

Ok....have moved to another PC, reinstall drivers and this is the third usb port i have used.....
still the same......is there any hardware reset bottom by the board.....? thx. leo.

Not to my knowledge.
what happens when you try to boot into recovery? Is it the stock recovery? Is it nothing?

If it's the stock recovery, then try doing a factory reset from there, and then try Odin again. If that doesn't work, I'm out of ideas. :o

hi, and 24 hrs later.... after using the fix2a zip for odin, whenshows reset phone, i.hold the vol up and power bottoms ad screen comes with samsung.....and never changes...no reset to recovery....no options.......thx. lv

Help help HEEEEEEELLLLLPPPP!! I was so proud of myself yesterday. Thought I rooted my phone. Discovered that I had not completed the all imported Kouma Kernal chapter to allow data to access the SD card. All seemed to be going fine. Then I went to restore the data that I had backed up, and nothing happened. Somewhere along the line, I wrecked EVERYTHING. Won't boot. It will boot to the Clockwork app, but resore fails....Argh!!! Please help if possible. My husband keeps telling me to get rid of my phone. He is a techie and I wanted to show him that I could root it and keep it. (Without his help!!!)Good grief.

Thanks.
Monica

You can just use Odin to reinstall the rooted image again. What did you use to restore your data? It's recommended to re-download all your apps instead of restoring then when you switch roms

What exactly is it doing? Is it stuck at the boot animation?

Hey LordVincent, not stalking you at all :p

Someone wanted me to root this phone and the phone wants to be updated...should I update? It's running 2.3.6
Also, are there any ROMs and if so, which one is the best?

No need to update if you root the phone with the FE16 or FF19 base band and put on one of these ROM's !! Just follow this guide.... The ROM you put on is a personal choice what you like best... All three of them work great......

I'd NEVER do a Samsung or Boost update..... Some of them try to screw you...... No one never knows exactly what these kind of updates do, until it's to late !Forget the updates, just root your phone and you won't have to worry !!

I guess so. It was showing the boost mobile logo. Now it is black, but tabs at bottom will illuminate.

I really don't know how to back up my phone. Based on your recommendation, I bought the back up software and used it. Then, I copied and pasted all the folders (which included the rerware data) to my computer. When I made it through the sections that partitioned my SD card, I thought I was done, I copied the data back to my SD card. Ran the Rerware restore and I was good to go. (I thought I was awesome!!!)

Today, I went to the linkto show my husband my awesome hanywork and realized that I hadn't finished. I downloaded the files. Installed kouma kernal etc. My phone loaded fine, but the apps and data weren't there so I copied the data under USB mount in clockwork, nothing happened. Then, I think I hit a wrong button, Kouma's logo appeared. I panicked, turned of the phone and things have gone down hill from there. I tried to do a restore from clockwork. (There was one file dated yesterday), but it failed. :-(

Do that :

1. Download CTMod3.75.2.zip and copy it to your sd-card
2. Turn off your phone
3. Hold Vol+Power button till you see the Clockworkmod menu
4. Select "Install ZIP from SD-Card" ( use Vol up and down to navigate, camera button to select )
5. After flashing CTMod, select "Reboot System" ( might have to do the "Reboot System" twice, not sure why.....)
6. Boot the phone all the way up ( first boot could take 5 - 10 min )
7. Once up and running, go to "Settings>>>CTMod Settings>>>Kernel Settings and tick "DATA", then "Save Settings" ( when supersu ask, you need to grant permissions )
8. NOW, hold the power button down for a second or so, select reboot, then choose "Recovery" !!! Once back in recovery RE-FORMAT your sdext again ( not sd-card )
9. When format is complete, "reboot system"

PS: Don't use a backup, just re-download your app's from the PlayStore and than sync your data..... If you use old app data's with a totally different ROM and Kernel you can run into problems !

Voila !

PS: You need to go to settings and sign in to your Google account first, otherwise PlayStore will not show !!

Thank your Lord-V & King VCE!!! Things are back in working order. Will I have to grant superstar permissions every time I boot??? Also, now that I have the SD card partitioned and modified, can I still copy pictures and songs etc through low tech methods or do I need to do anything special through clockworkmod???

Thank you. Thank you!!! (Add a paypal link and I will send "tea" money!!!:D

As far as updating is concerned, you can update until you're blue in the face. Odin is the alpha and omega with Samsung phones. As long as we have Odin no update will ever he able to break root.

@mmg- glad you got it figured out. Yes you can copy things to the card the same way you already have been.:) And LOL @ 'superstar' access:D:D:D:D:D:D

Does Gingerbreak work as an alternative? Dont want to download ODIN on my PC....running out of space

No. Odin is the only way. All other exploits have been patched

The whole Dl (including tars) are less than a a gig. (iirc less than half)

Actually, the back-up software recommendation was from Hroark13...oops

Hi,

the Odin Repacker is all you need for backup :

Odin Image File Creator

Extract the .zip file to a folder ( create a new one, for example, called "Prevail Backup" ), then connect the phone to USB and run the .bat file from this folder. Select "2" for Gingerbread, then twice "y".... Depending on the size of your sd-card, you can leave a sd-ext backup ( of all your programs installed ) on your sd-dcard !

Have fun !
