Root [GUIDE][CTmod] Rooting the Prevail [SPH-M820] for Dummies (written by a dummy)

When you go back into koumamod settings is data mode selected?

If not, select it, save, boot into cwm, format sdext again(for good measure) and then reboot. It should take around 8-15 minutes to boot (while it builds the dalvik cache) and you should then see the extra storage.

Just a note- any apps you installed will be 'gone' because you are no longer using the phones internal memory. You are using the sdext AS.internal memory. It will essentially look like you did a factory reset (in a way you kinda did)

Yes, ctmod settings, kernel settings, data mode is checked.

But it only shows 35mb free :confused:

What size did you make your partition?

Are you sure koumamod has super user privileges?

You may need to reflash the rom.
(ie start with chapter 3)

it was either the 1024mb or 2048mb, my memory is weak on this point, does that sound right? I know I thought at the time that the recommended 512 was too small since I had 16gb to play with.

I have a 1024 (1gb) partition. I think that size is ideal. I've never ran out of space. But it should still show up... i would try to reflash the rom. (you have nothing to lose, since this will 'delete' all your apps. And data anyways)

Just make sure you grant superuser privileges to all the requests

I had already resigned myself to doing that, I'll give it a go again tomorrow when I am fresh, and I'll let you know how it turns out. I think I have a better understanding of how to do it, maybe this time it will work properly.

Thanks for your help.

No problem. If you have any follow up questions, don't hesitate to ask. Just remember, the only stupid questions are the ones you're afraid to ask.

Ok, I followed the directions again and reflashed the rom. The last boot up after formatting the sdext hangs on the KK 2.5 screen. I have been waiting 40 minutes now. I have done it about 6 times now, and it always hangs on the KK screen after the sdext step.

After you re-flashed and selected DATA, did you "IMMEDIATELY" boot into CWM Recovery and RE-FORMAT your sdext ????? Everytime you select DATA or SSM or make ANY changes in the kernel settings, you need to IMMEDIATELY boot into "RECOVERY" and re-format the sdext ( NOT sd-card ) !!!!

PS: And yes, the first boot after the re-format can take up to 15 minutes, if it's longer, you need to start over...... ( re-flashing the ROM )

I think so, here is what I did: after I saved the data selection, I powered down and rebooted into cwm recovery and formatted sdext, then chose reboot. At this point, the phone hangs on the KK screen.

You didn't mention the powering down step, so maybe this is where I messed up. Is there a way to go directly into cwm recovery without powering down?

So, 15 minutes is the point at which I know it isn't going to work?

yep. Hold power, select reboot, select recovery

Yea, 15 min is a good estimate as to when it's failed.

After you selected DATA and did the "Save" , you can hiold down the Power Button for a second or two to get the menu, select "Reboot", then "Recovery"...... once there format the sdext...... if that doesn't work, try a different sdcard......

EDIT : Darn, this "guy from above" is fassssssssssssssssssssst !!!! LOL ;) Grinzzzzzz He beat me again !!! LOL

Ok. this is a shot in the dark, but if it fails again, reflash the rom, then flash this:
http://db.tt/hRt6NEI9
(this is the koumamod.apk from the koumakernel thread packed into bloods apk installer)

Then try data mode.

And @vce :p:p:p (behold the power of tapatalk)

Hey, I took the battery out to get out of the kk screen hang, prepared to go back to odin. When I put the battery in and started to read through the directions again, the phone booted itself up and there my storage was at .88gb, and the kernel setting is at data. I think that is the corrct configuration. both ctmod and kk have su permission granted. Hm, what else do I need to confirm? I'm going to try importing my contact list and installing some apps now, maybe I have succeeded by accident.

Some of the things now look a bit different from the last time I had ctmod running, who knows. If there is a way to screw it up, I can usually find it.

I just turned the phone off, now I am going to turn it back on. I noticed that goo manager had an update for ctmod, is that normal?

If you installed CTMod3.75.2 than just ignore it, there is NO other update..... If you have CTMod3.75 installed, than there is an update !!!

If you flashed 3.75.2 there should be no update... But then again goo manager acts up sometimes

Lol! Got me this time :p

Ok, announcement of success was premature, the kk screen is hanging on boot again. Maybe it is the card, but I specifically got a Samsung card. I'm going to try swapping back to the stock card,
