Root [Guide] How to flash the ZV9 update, for the technically challenged

I was trying to see if there was a performance correlation with the update. At this point I think it was my imagination.

Thanks! after I restored it, the baseband version says unkown... is that normal?
Yes, most custom ROMs at this time do not show the baseband version properly. I discovered a method to show it last week, but we are still digging into it via strace to attempt to show it properly (my method is a hack). For now, only mrg666's Mirage shows it, but I'll be adding the ability to show it to BACKside on the next build (hack or properly). ;)

For now, you can find your baseband by using a file manager to read this file:
/sys/devices/system/soc/soc0/build_id

If you have one of the original OV's, it comes with VM670ZV4
The newer OV's come with VM670ZV5
The security update gives you VM670ZV9

Note- If you are running the latest build of BACKside, you can open the BacksideUpdater, then long press the screen (not the text box in the middle), and a popup will appear with your current radio version. ;)

Not sure if this is because of the new radio or just a bad flash but I've had my phone restart as it was trying to send an SMS. This has happened about 3 or 4 times now. It doesn't happen every time, only like 25% of the time. I've had it occur using both Go sms and handcent. I am on the newest build.

There have been a couple of other posts about this in other forums. Looks like you'll need to clear your messaging data/cache. Let us know if that helps.

Is there anyway to get back apps from the sd card? they're there but I can't use them and they have a generic icon. Was on the last level of everlands too !

I cleared the messaging data but there didn't appear to be any cache to clear. The phone went a few hours without restarting and then it just happened again.

Unfortunately your progress in the game is lost. About all you can do is restore your last backup, see if that helps.
didn't work, but thanks =]

I's saying something like sd.ext.img not found.. is there any reason why it didn't backup the sd card's contents? I'm using the stock 2gb sd card...

I honestly don't know, that's handled by the recovery. Jerry might be able to shed some light on the subject, he's more familiar with how the recovery processes that than I am. I'll do some digging, see if I can figure out what happened. Your data is still lost, and for that I am sorry, but if we can find out what went wrong, maybe we can save others from the same fate.

It doesn't back up the sdcard contents because that's where the backup backs up to. The data is all still there (unless you wiped your sdcard), the links are just all broken to what you stuck on the sdcard.

Some recoveries just can't mount sd-ext no backup is made. IIRC the official CWM does that. I experienced that before.
Use proven modified recoveries from the stickies here. They are made for our phone.

Sort of. If you have an sd-ext partition, that should be backed up. That's where any of the *2sd stuff lives. It should have restored fine for him, mine does. That's why I'm trying to figure out what went wrong. It's entirely possible the backup was corrupted, but there are other possible culprits.

It's not a corrupted backup. It's missing backup.
Corrupt backup leads to md5 sum mismatch, missing backup leads to .img not found what he gets. Even 0 byte .img file is still corrupt backup.

I had assumed Frozen Droid was using Bobzhome's recovery, because that's how this guide is written, but if he did use something else, that could very well be the problem.

Perhaps he started the guide on a different recovery and now has bobz but the backup was made with a recovery that couldn't mount sd-ext

Might be a stupid question, but is it possible to install the new radio with the rom backside in like a update or something? I have the latest backside rom build, but I am still showing radio version VM670ZV5

The only stupid question is the one not asked. Yes, not only is it possible, that's my setup. Don't worry about what baseband version is reported, that's the Rom, not the radio. (Mine says "unknown!")

In simple terms I am thinking you are saying I have the latest radio? As its included in the rom? I didn't follow this guide to put the rom on. My baseband is unknown as well. Is the only way to get the latest radio is to follow this guide? ha I am not even understanding my own question.

More info: I followed this guide here: [HOW-TO] Simplified Root + Recovery + Custom ROM

Got the rom, just didnt follow this guide to do it...

OK. thank you. Thats what i thought. I am just wondering if its possible even for the updated radio firmware to be put in the updated rom build.
