Root [Guide] How to root the Wildfire S with S-ON

If I reboot manually and try SuperSU it says that 'su' cannot be found.

The HBOOT was unlocked using HTCDev (and it says so if I stay with VolDown+Power).

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Nick

Have you tried the method I quoted just 2-3 posts above?

if i do these:

1. Skip ahead to steps 5A and 5B below to install ClockworkMod Recovery and backup your ROM.
2. Download root.zip and put it on your SD card.
3. Boot into HBOOT and go into Recovery.
4. Select install zip from sd card and choose zip from sd card. Then find the root.zip file downloaded above and install it.
5. Go back to the main menu and reboot the phone.
6. Verify that the SuperUser app is installed and go to Google Play market to update it. If the SuperUser app is not installed, download SuperSU from Google Play store and reboot the phone.

I click recovery then where will be a phone and an exclamation mark.
Whats the problem?

sorry for my english.

thanks

"Before starting, boot the phone HBOOT (turn it off, pull and reinsert the battery, hold volume down and press power button) and see if the bootloader is already updated to an unlockable one. If so, you’ll see the word ***_LOCKED_*** at the top. You can skip step 3B as updating your bootloader is unnecessary."

I DO THAT BUT WHEN I UNLOCK BOOTLOADER AT HTCDEV.COM IN COMMAND PROMPT IT SAYS "WAITING FOR DEVICE"

Hey Guys! Finally I rooted my Wildfire S... it was a hell of the day! I am really impressed by your patience and dedication in helping people like me, newbies and dummies in this field :). A big thank you to all of you!

Inshallah, I hope it wont get me troubles, but will see. I think the hardest part is gone :).

Let me share with you my steps:

Characteristics: Wildfire S A510e, Marvel, Locked, S-ON, Android 2.3.5, Kernel 2.26.401.3, H-BOOT-1.09.0099.

1. Did not update the bootloader. Didn't need to.
2. Followed the third step, unlocked the bootloader at htcdev.com.
3. Had issues with the fourth step, supertool v3 didn't work, superuser didn't had the su bin file, supersu also didn't work. Had errors like previous guys, the red triangle too, etc.
4. Took the 5A and 5B step but using the files from this guy: user in youtube: aphroditelikesme, title: (HD) How to Root the HTC Wildfire S (GSM) - Cursed4Eva. (in the description). As a new user on this forum, yet not allowed to post links...
5. Last step was the square above the step 5th and it went perfectly, without the fact that it didn't back up from CWM cause it couldn't see the sd ext... same issue that was previously encountered by others, but that's not a big deal.

Now the phone is rooted. Superuser is doing his job. Link2sd is moving all the apps to SD.

I didn't install a custom ROM, as I like the HTC sense, cause of it's design and efficiency with this phone...

A whole day of headaches, researches, readings, outdated versions vs new versions, but it worth it! I was so happy that I even washed my dishes at 1am :D.

Thanks again guys, and all the best!

Thank you!

Tried step 4, but when it says rebooting to fastboot, nothing happens.
This is what I was referring to in my post above. No need for fastboot. ;)
1. Skip ahead to steps 5A and 5B below to install ClockworkMod Recovery and backup your ROM.
2. Download root.zip and put it on your SD card.
3. Boot into HBOOT and go into Recovery.

Hi, followed all the steps , and everything worked perfectly until step 4c. When I click on recovery from HBOOT, the phone tends to freeze; I get a white background with the HTC logo on it. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance

I have the exact same problem! Can you, please, give me an idea what to do.

Thanks!

How did you install recovery? Make sure the right one has been installed Marvel/MarvelC versions.

If you are sure that you have installed it correctly, some phone unfortunately do have that problem and currently there is no solution for it. But Eoghant @ xda forums is working on it.

You can check it out every couple of days to see if he found a solution in this link:

well thing's have been going fine with my rooted android wfs (simon's sense) but the other day my camera and camcorder just stopped working so i was gonna try a different rom (wildchild), so i put the rom on the sd card and rebooted, into hboot, then selected recovery but thats as far as i can get.

Hello. I am planning to follow this guide, but I really don't want to chance a brick, so I have a couple of very noob questions:

1. On the HTCdev RUU list the HTCEU one matches my current software number as shown by the Android settings and my model number. Is the software number on htcdev the one the RUU is updatiing to or from? What I am asking is will the HTC EU one which matches my software number and model number be safe to install?

2. I have forced my phone to install apps to the sd card automatically using adb commands. Will this affect the procedure?

Again sorry if theses questions are noob but I have to be sure. BTW my device is a wildfire s A510e

I'm not sure I understand your question 1...Look at the back of your phone, behind the battery like the guide says. And you need to find the RUU which matched that number and the country and/or the network you're using

2. I wouldn't be able to answer that question as I haven't used that

1. If your bootloader shows *** LOCKED *** then there is no need to run the RUU. If not, then Caro's answer above is correct.

2. No worries here as this option does not relate to rooting.

BTW, phones don't usually brick during the rooting process. Usually it's what noobs do with their phones after rooting that bricks the phone, so be careful and make sure you do a backup of the ROM in recovery per step 5 before tinkering. ;)

i cant find RUU for my software number 2.26.720.3
Check your bootloader per the beginning of step 3 of the guide and I think you'll find that it says *** LOCKED *** meaning that it's unnecessary to run an RUU.

When I try to follow those steps, I get a red triangle with an exclamation point.... I don't think the universe wants me to root. lol

3. Boot into HBOOT and go into Recovery.
4. Select install zip from sd card and choose zip from sd card. Then find the root.zip file downloaded above and install it.

When exactly do you get the exclamation point? When you reboot or go to recovery?
