Nothing in the ***e worked, ive followed the steps, im quite focused so i know i made no mistakes and also i even just used abd commands to extract the token and it just sits for eternity saying ''waiting for devices''

I thought it was because im running Win 8 but i overcame the driver issues so it gets recog' on all levels.

I really want to rid my phone of the pre-inst crap so badly its typical!!

Any ideas welcomed gladly. Ive a few thousand apps for the succesfull 'root'. lol

'waiting for device' is a typical problem. Make sure HTC sync is not running in the background. If it still doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall the drivers...or use a different laptop :p
I had that problem and I had a personal laptop which I used instead and it worked

I'm still not sure which RUU to use however. I have a Virgin Mobile phone and the HTCDEV unlock page lists an RUU for that phone, but it is 2.14.351.1 PG7610000 and my phone says PG76200. There are two RUUs listed for PG76200, they are:

Sprint VM 1.02.652.00 PG7620000

If you asked me to guess I would use the Sprint VM one because maybe the VM stands for Virgin Mobile?

I went with the Sprint VM one and it worked perfectly. I am now rooted and using Link2SD I can delete all the annoying applications and free up some space on this phone.

Bro, I tried that. but I faild to flash recovery. I have rom manager and terminal emulator installed. I tried a different way using terminal emulator to install recovery image but I really dont know what I did. I admit that I was tansed and hopeless.
Now I cant get any call but I can call others. when I try to boot in recovery mode it doesnt goes into recovery. it shows a red triangle with an exclamatory sign over an image of a phone. it stays stuck like that. it doesnt boot up or doesn't shuts down until I remove the battary.
please tell me how can I get any stable rom with all features working properly? Its htc wildfire s A510e. plz help me...

If recovery doesn't work, I would say try a different recovery. TWRP is now a recovery that works well apparently. Quite a few people prefer that. However I haven't tried it yet.

It usually means that it didn't install properly or that you flashed the stock recovery. How are you flashing recovery? Rom manager, manual flash?

Check the Flashed custom recovery won't "stick"? section. Although this is for the Galaxy Nexus, I think it should work for the WFS. Might want to PM and ask him if it does work for other devices just in case...

I wanted to get rid from my current CM9 Alpha7. as I dont have backup I thought unrooting might lead it back to 2.3.5. I just wanted to get a stable rom where all things working properly. I was following this guide:

I extracted recovery image from RUU_Marvel_S_hTC_Asia_India_2.13.720.1_Radio_47.23a.35.3035H_7.53.39.03M_release_225848_signed.

Problem starts from here.
I was unable to flash that recovery using command prompt. I searched on google to do it by terminal emulator. I wrote some command on emulator shown on that tutorial and may be I installed it from SD card. I am not sure wheather it worked or not, but after that I'm having this problem. I can go into Bootloader. but when I select recovey first it shows HTC logo on white screen. and then that red triangle over a phone image appears.

plz suggest me something... :(
 
When you enter the bootloader, it is still 'Unlocked' or 'relocked'
If it's still unlocked, I think you are getting the error because you have flashed the stock recovery and not the custom one.
Try to do step 4A. Install ClockworkMod Recovery from this guide again and I think this should work.
If you want to go back to stock, try following Senthamil's explanation.

Yes! Its "unlocked" and I tried to flash stock recovery. I had installed ClockWorkMod when I first rooted WFS. Now, should I have to install ClockWorkMod Recovery again?

When you whent to the 'going back to stock rom' guide, it asked you to flash a recovery which is the stock recovery. This will not allow you to use recovery. But if you try flashing the one that is in this site, I think it should work

is this reversible?

This guide refers to a list of rom from site "FileFactory"
FileFactory Folder View - Marvel

but this list doesn't contain "RUU_Marvel_S_hTC_Asia_India" so I downloaded it from another place. I thought I need this rom as I wasn't sure which rom I should choose. can u plz tell me which one should I chose for my phone?

Now what should I do? should I install ClockWorkMod by Rom Manager or any other way and than try to install a rom from "FileFactory"?
if that than what rom should I use?

this one is perfect guide. i have rooted my device. i want to share my experience here. i am completely new to android. i just want to make some space on htc wildfire, also want to add new language file. after two days of exploring i have learnt some technical info. as per that, i have unlocked my bootloader with htcdev.com

first thing is, you wil download java run time, android sdk, htc sync. Thats not a problem. problem will appear when you choose your ruu. mostly its 'HTC asia india' . but not for all mobiles, u may updated your mobile to 2.3.5

HTC wildfire is also called as, buzz, marvel, marvelc (CDMA), metropcs, thats depends bootloader, software version. so if ruu 'HTC asia india' not working for you, check out your bootloader information.
power off, switch on & hold volume down key. then note the bootloader number. in settings - about phone - software information. (note the software number too. )
with respect to that numbers, download, choose your ruu file.
if that number not listed or 2.26.30.0... something above you dont need ruu file.
just follow the remaining steps listed in htcdev. unlock your bootloader. after what you have to do.... i searched a lot, finally got this awesome guide. before this i red about one click rooting apps, revolutionary, htc super tool, etc. they will root your phone. but thats not applicable apps for higher version of bootloader, htc wild fire s marvel A510e.
so first check your mobiles bootloader version before stuck into ruu.

so, u have to start with recovery image. install the clockworkmod recovery img as here said. in bootloader settings, backup @ restore - backup your mobile settings.
then install the root.zip file from sd card.
thats all.


Now i hv rooted my wildfire s. still have confusions, doubts in upgrading my android os to ICS . cm7.2 cm9 confusing in mod.

requesting this thread moderator to give a complete guide on CM9 . that will complete the goal of rooting wildfire s. hope you will do!

Sir,
There's no doubt that this guide is perfect as many WFS users are using it succesfully. theres no question about that. I just wanted to solve my problem part here. I failed to do it by my Laptop through Command Prompt. So I followed another guide to install recovery.img from sd card by terminal emulator. I was not sure that i was succeded or not, so I didn't followed step 6 and 7. after rebooting mannually I tried to install rom from sd card. I also tried renaming the rom into pg76img.zip but failed. As I did something wrong by myself and now my phone is not going into recovery and stays stuck on an image like red triangle with an exclamatory sign! I have java run time, android sdk, htc sync installed as I've rooted it before..

When I first rooted my phone I had settings - about phone - software information. And I also had a software number at there. with respect to that number I downloaded RUU for the first time when I rooted my device. I can still remember it was the last one from the list of the site htcdev.com as I was unlocking bootloader. but after installing CM9 I cant see that software information in settings - about phone.

CM9 is not stable yet. it has lot of issues like video camara doesn't work, Cant play any video, No WiFi, No internet Passthrough. But now I'm having a bigger problem than that. No calls are entering in my phone. although I can call others. I had a backup but I lost it during partition.

Now I just want to get rid of that recovery issue and install a stable rom, wheather a stock rom or a custom rom. anything. If it requires to unroot for that, I'll do that.
if it doesn't requires unrooting, thats even better.

Hey Caro332, thanks for trying to help Azhar out here :).

I'm a little out of my element with the Wildfire S, but I can tell you the details about how to make recovery "stick"--at least for the devices that work this way. Here are the notes I've got published in one of the stickied threads over in the GNex all-things-root area:
Flashed custom recovery won't "stick"?

Do this:

- remount /system in read/write mode (use something like the Root Explorer app or ES File Explorer; both have root modes (check the app's settings) for remounting /system as writable)

- rename the /system/recovery-from-boot.p to /system/recovery-from-boot.p-bak

(note: you could delete it, but renaming is much safer since its easily reversible)

- here are notes for doing this using ES File Explorer (free in the Market):
- download / install / launch ES File Explorer

- press the menu icon (bottom right)

- select Settings

- select Home Directory

- change your Home Directory to "/" (without the quotes, of course)

- return to the Settings screen

- scroll down to the bottom of the screen

- check the "Root Explorer" box in the Root Settings area (you'll get the Superuser whitelist app's pop-up asking for permission for this app)

- when you want to mount / and /system as writeable, check the "Mount File System" box under the "Root Explorer" checkbox

- hit the back button to return to the file navigation

- press the "Up" directory icon in the toolbar at the top of the screen--that should take you to the / (root) filesystem

- from there, you should be able to navigate to the /system filesystem and look for the recovery-from-boot.p file

- long-press the recovery-from-boot.p file and select "Rename" (I suggested adding a suffix like "-bak" or "-old", etc.)
- you could also do this manually in an adb shell or on-phone Terminal session:

+ mv /system/recovery-from-boot.p /system/recovery-from-boot.p-bak

+ after you've renamed the file, you might have to re-flash your CWM if it had been missing previously (which led you here)
So, as you can see, there's a file called /system/recovery-from-boot.p that is actually referenced by the /system/etc/install-recovery.sh script.

If your system has these two files, then that's probably what is making Android re-write the stock recovery upon shutdown (or at least I think it was only upon shutdown--I think I've seen that it might actually be (also?) during start-up, too).

Alright. First I'd like to send a HUGE thanks to CafeKampuchia for this awesome guide. I'm a complete noob when it comes to this stuff and I managed to get my VMA Wildfire S rooted. Major Kudos :)

But now I'm lost. I'm not entirely sure what to do. I originally wanted to improve my phone's performance but I have no clue where to start. I tried the sites listed under the guide for ROMs but I can't seem to find one that's actually still available.

Also, following the thread a little further, I myself am not sure how to flash my phone, or even what it really means, even after reading the Terminology page.

Any help or details greatly appreciated!!

I think you probably don't have recovery anymore.
Just follow this from the guide (Go to the first page of this guide)
4A. Install ClockworkMod Recovery

If you have downloaded the MarvelC image, the image name will be recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvelc.img.

Congrats on rooting!!

But rooting is just the first step. Before you do anything, like the guide says, make a nandroid backup. It's much easier to have a backup in case you mess up then having to find a stock rom.
If you want to uninstall bloatware apps (Unwanted apps): Download Titanium backup
If you want more internal space: Download Link2SD
If you want to flash new roms (Custom OS): I suggest Cyanogen 7.2. It's the most stable Cyanogen at the moment, gives you loads of extra memory and big battery saver.

There's a small step by step guide on how to flash on the first page:
1)Enter recovery
2)Wipe data, cache and dalvik cache (under advanced)
3) Flash rom (You can find quite a few nice ones in xda forums)
4)If you are flashing Cyanogen rom, you will need to flash the gapps as well (Google apps)
5)Reboot

i have succsefuly ***UNLOCKED*** it via HTCDEV, and am stuck on the rooting side of things, when i load the downloaded Img file within CMD after i start my phone in HBoot i get an error message


error: cannot load 'recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img'

can anybody help

Welcome to the AndroidForums, Joe!

This device and rooting method is not my area of expertise, so I'll only ask what I think is a general question that might help others figure-out your issue:

In what context are you getting the above error message?

(I'm guessing that you might be trying to do a fastboot flash of the recovery and that file is not present in your local directory that you are trying to flash from?)

Tell us a little more and I'm sure the real experts watching this thread will have a helpful solution for you.

I've been trying to root my HTC Wildfire S.
I've downloaded a RUU from HTCdev.

But I keep getting Error [190] ROM is not updated.
It says I have to upgrade to 2.13.401.3 to apply this RUU.
Tried other RUU, but it said it's not supported.

I've already updated the software to 2.3.5 in February.

Should I try a RUU from 'Football' and if so, which??

I'm pretty stuck, who can help me?

If your Bootloader version is 1.08.xxxx or later, then you don't need to update the bootloader. you can skip this step and proceed to unlock the bootloader and then root your device.
