Root [Guide] How to root the Wildfire S with S-ON

Hi all,

I tried rooting my HTC Wildfire S but got stuck :-(

I've tried several ways, but none will work...

When I'm using this guide I'm stuck at the following point:

4C. Flash root.zip
Boot into HBOOT and go into Recovery. Then select install zip from sd card and choose zip from sd card. Then find the root.zip file downloaded above and install it.

When I go into HBOOT and then choose Recovery then the HTC logo comes on the screen and my screen gets black after that.

I also tried htcsupertoolv3 but with no luck...

Any ideas?

Problem solved... after googling a lot I found this site:
Lucky Zone

The tool they offer there helps my solving my black screen (I get to see everything on my pc instead of on the phone).

I thought I would share it here for the people who has the same troubles!

I have rooted my phone according to the above procedure.now neither my tethering nor my WiFi hotspot function would work... Can anybody please please help me???

That's strange...Rooting itself shouldn't change anything at all. It just 'unlocks'. Nothing about the rom itself is changed. Have you made any modifications after rooting? Have you uninstalled something?

im having trouble rooting my wifes wildfire s.

Service provider: Metro
Android Version: 2.3.4
HTC sense: 2.1
Software #: 3.01.1550.2 710rd

after rooting, my stock music player will not display settings, i have to force close it when i tap for settings.
any ideas?

Thank you for that effort bro, i have got a problem starting with the 4th step, i had unlocked the htc wildfire s, but when i open the command prompt it refuse to do anything it says : flashboot is not recongin\ed as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

im stuck & i could use a hand here, thnQ

I need some help. I just did the clockwork recovery step.

sending 'recovery' (4424 KB).
OKAY [ 1.738s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 2.170s]
finished. total time: 3.909s

That came up in CMD. Then I added the zip to the sd card and put it back in the phone. Now when I hit recovery from the HBoot section the phone just restarts a couple times. I get no options to select the zip. What am I doing wrong?

Hi,

First you need to install HTC Sync, Android SDK and Java Runtime on your PC. I hope you might have done this.

If you type the 'fastboot' commands from the android directory you won't get this error.

Now copy Adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll and fastboot.exe form your "C:\program files\android-sdk\platform tools" directory to a new folder on "C:". For example : "C:\android".

Probably when you type 'cmd' or 'command' you will be on your users directory on MS-DOS Prompt. (ex: c:\users\your name).
Type 'cd\' and the type 'cd android' which will get you, to the android directory.

Now type the commands as in the guide. (i.e from "c:\android" dir).

Did you choose the correct recovery image file (marvel/marvelc) for your model ?

If it doesn't work try installing 'Rom Manager' from play store. Then flash 'Recovery' from 'Rom Manager'.

Well I am stuck at the part where I need to use the command prompt. I tried doing this a few months ago, I got as far as unlocking my phone from the htc site etc etc..

was using windows7 64 so i was having problems before, i couldnt get it to find the java install, im using 32 bit now and i got all that figured out and installed fine now..

Now my problem is the command prompt.. I dont know what to do???? i typed everything i have found and none of it works, all it keeps saying is not recognized as internal or external or whatever it says.... No matter what i type it doesnt work.. Where should i put the img file and how do i get the command to work??? I dont understand that..

EDIT: by the way i couldnt download clockwork recovry or whatever its called from the link, EVERYTIME i click on it it just opens a new page and its all "code", I click "save target as" and it just downloads an html image so not sure whats up with that, i googled it and downloaded it, hopefully i got the right one.. Either way i cant do anyhing since i cant use the command prompt..

Hi,
You just refer my previous post (#886) to execute fastboot commands and also for the recovery, post (#750) on previous page.

Hope this maybe useful. If really press 'Thanks' :)

Hey all, First of all i'd like to say thank you for making such an in depth guide rooting a wildfire s.

I'm having a little bit of a problem trying to get the phone to recover the root.zip, keeps saying it's a bad file.
I'm managed everything else so far including installing clockworks.

here is what my phone says on the hboot men.

*** UNLOCKED ***
Marvel pvt ship s-on rl
hboot-1.09.0099
Microp-0451
radio-7.57.39.10m.

and this is what it says when i try and load the root.zip while in the clockworks recovery section

installing: /sdcard/root.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/root.zip (bad)
Installation Aborted.

I followed everything to the book apart from doing part from 3b as my phone said it was ***LOCKED*** all ready.

Please help if you can as this is really bugging me as to why it isn't working :banghead:

Hi,

The file root.zip might be a bad download. Try download one more time and root it.

Anyway if it works (or not) post it back.

You can also try to root using HTCsuperTool, but sometimes it's not reliable.

i Tried downloading it a few times (using the fress download every time) and still got the above. i'll try 1 more time today to see if that makes a difference,.

any guide for using htcsupertool?

*edit* save adding another post, just tried again and ejected the sd card instead of just pulling it out and it seems to have worked this time. :)

So it seems not working for you.
You can try the HTC SuperTool method. Refer the thread below and download the tool from here. (if the download links there doesn't work)

I rooted my device with this method only for the first time.

Hi all,

I'm someone who is not very good with cellphones, but I definetely want to improve the memory of my htc wildfire S. I bought it in Canada, but I live in Colombia.
The information I have is that my HTC is A510a, is S-ON and all I want is what this guy wanted: http://androidforums.com/wildfire-s...fire-s-removing-system-apps-rooting-help.html, which is only to get rid of systems app that I don't even know how to use, like the zoompass, bell tv, or the like.

Thank you.

btw, my phone info

HTC wildfire S
Model: PG76110
Android 2.3.3

I am trying to follow this post.
Thanks

Hey guys, I'm hoping someone can give me a little help. I followed everything correctly and all was well until I got to step 4C. Flash root.zip.
When I get to hboot it runs an image check for about a second or two and then gives me all the options. When I select recovery the phone goes to the white HTC screen and hangs there. If anyone could give me a heads up on what to do it'd be greatly appreciated.

What recovery did you install?
CWM doesn't work for everyone. I use TWRP 2.2. It says for gsm phones but it works great on my metro wfs.

I just selected Recovery on the list of things to select as specified in the instructions.
Let me add that I did add the Root.zip onto my SD card.

You see, I'm having issues with the Recovery on the Hboot screen. It won't let me open it to find my zip file. It just goes to the white HTC screen. Would downloading this help that?
