Root [Guide] How to setup Gparted/Alpharev (or any .ISO) with VMware Player (updated Jan 2012)

that means its not connected. So you did step 13 during setup, plugged in the phone in recovery mode, selected "mount usb mass storage", then did what was in the last screenshot and selected "connect"?

Yes. In the past when I had other issues partitioning, it came up with the prompt and was *DEFINITELY* connected. But now, the device is connected (I think), but doesn't come up with the prompt. Also, it doesn't appear as "High Android Phone". I knew it was the phone before, but now I'm not even sure to be honest, it *COULD BE* something else...

Its something I cant really troubleshoot without seeing. In that last picture, it would say "connect" if it was disconnected or "disconnect" if it was connected. Which does it say?

I'm confused now. You basically told me it wasn't connected so I,told you how to connect it.

Will this work OK with an adapter rather than the SD card being in the phone?

What about mounting it as USB Mass storage? Will it just being plugged be OK?

Well, my questions are probably pretty stupid, but I guess I'd rather look dumb than screw up my phone or sd card.
When I got to step 16 and clicked on 'Connect', I got the black screen with the characters, but it got stuck soon, with parts of the previous screen still being visible. After a few seconds nothing changed, so I powered off the machine. Is this what was supposed to happen/what I was supposed to do? The card works fine now, but I am not sure if it I did everything correctly and if it's all ready to partition.

I was on the one that comes up when you power on the machine, connected the phone, the prompt from step 15 showed up, I clicked on 'ok', everything went as it should until I clicked on 'Connect', then it stared showing the screen that's partially shown in step 16. When I right clicked the icon it gave me an option to disconnect, but the screen was as described in my last post, and it didn't look like it was finished. Maybe I could try repeating it and take a screen shot, if you need it.

When you're actually ready to use gparted, wait until it goes through the keyboard settings before connecting

I guess I wasn't clear, I did wait...This is what I get:
Untitled-3.jpg
This time I waited longer, and still nothing changed. When I turned the VM on again, it did tell me a device had been mounted, but this screen just doesn't look right.

No its not right and I've never seen it before. What about other devices? Same?

Which version of gparted is this?

Could be a dodgy iso. Try and redownload it. If after that it still happens, download the version before.

Ok, what do I do if want to create a 1GB partition so I can use the Leedroid HD ROM?

I have a 4GB card with no partition at the mo - do I do 2048 on Fat32 & 1024 on ext 3?

I need a step by step guide if possible :o

Ok had a go, it boots up OK with the SD card in so that's a start.

Downloaded Quick System Info & this is what I get:

SD Card storage Total 1.67GB Free 1.67GB
A2SD storage Total 0.98GB Free 857MB
Internal Storage Total 148MB Free 100MB
System Storage Total 250MB Free 22.68MB

Does that seem right?

I've only got 100MB Free & I've hardly any apps installed?

Data and settings also go to.internal storage. Not sure what happens to dalvik on that Rom. Leedroid thread best placed to answer that
