Yes, you can install more than just Fresh.
 
Besides my contacts, is there anything else I would need to back up on my hero before rooting? My sd card is empty so there isn't anything I have to save on it.

IMHO the benefits of Rooting your phone is the same thing when you buy a new pc from a vendor and the first thing you do is format c on it to clean it up and start fresh.

I had my Hero about 2 months before I started playing with it and I have to say that I am having a blast doing so.
 
Getting rid of the bloatware as well as making the phone more customizable to you. Also alot of the roms will speed up the phone I know when I went to fresh rom 1.1 i noticed a huge difference but thats just me. And also once you root your phone and install the recovery image then you can create a backup of the phone to your sd card using nandroid
 
Hey guys, I've lately been reading into rooting my Hero and have gotten excited about doing so but I am having difficulties. I tried the One-Click method first and got a Verification error when I tried to select zip file containing Fresh 1.1 so I tried the manual method and got a Permission denied message when I to copy recovery-RA-heroc. If anyone could help me out I would be delighted. Thanks!
 
Sounds like you are having the same problem someone else is. Make sure you read the guide all of the way through. Did you unmount your SD card as it says?

I don't think you can use "ANY" Rom, it has to be a ROM specifically for the phone. For the CDMA Hero, I think these are the only ones available.
 
I'm having some serious lag issues and other little assorted issues, it maybe one of my apps or something else I'm not proficient enough to identify. I was thinking about unrooting to try and knock whatever keeps hanging me up loose and then flash back to Fresh 1.1. Might this work? Also if I do unroot and then come back to Fresh will apps that I paid for still be avail in my market to install without paying again?
 
EHHHHHH I got held up on the one click so I am trying manually,,, a few kinks at first but now I'm at step 13 "adb push recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2.img /sdcard" and I get permission denied???

Any ideas as to what I've done incorrectly?


edit: by clicking "USB debugging" off and on magically fixxed it :)
 
I ran the with google auto root and got the memory issue. I checked to see if the recovery image is on my SD card and it is. Then the guide says to continue around step 14 of the manual section but once I go to step 14 I'm completely confused. It says the code is "adb shell reboot" but where do I type this in? What directory?
 
start at step 1.. that explains where and how... read it all and follow the steps needed to get into adb shell
 
Yeah, I figured it all out and I've successfully rooted and installed fresh 1.1. I do have a question about the themes though. I see that several people have this task bar with the vertical battery bar like in this post I used fresh pre kitchen but I don't see that exact theme in there.
 
Isn't that Fresh1.1? Or is it 1.0 perhaps? I don't like the Fresh taskbars at all, so I end up putting the stock ones back on
 
I don't like the fresh ones either but I like not having the lock bar thing. Is there a way to get rid of the gray lock bar and keep the stock taskbar?
 
you can flash a different lock screen on, like a clear one or something. There's a few different ones on geekfor.me

I honestly can't remember where I got mine. I'm not a huge fan of the completely clear lock bar, especially if you leave the clock/date in there, but it's what I've got at the moment lol

edit: I think I have the clear lock with stock icons from geekfor.me. But my lockscreen wallpaper isn't clear, which leads me to believe I put something else on lol

Rooted with Pre-Kitchen.

Backed up.

Re-rooted (non google).

Backed up.

Now getting ready to install the Freshness.

Hopefully, it will all work.

I have the sprint Hero but had it flashed to Pageplus. Can I still root and ad the fresh rom without screwing with my pageplus flash
