Root [Guide]ROOTING HTC android 2.2.1 or lower with unrEVOked - Windows (updated 20th December 2012)

You're booting to hboot? If so, don't. You haven't let unrevoked finish. It will say if complete. That image you are seeing is the default recovery. Once rooted you will see a different one.

your hboot drivers are not installed so it was unable to complete the rooting process and leaves it in hboot

This is getting frustrating. I followed these instructions and get the same result. It says Android Bootloader Interface in the end.
I did the Revolutionary, because I have a 1.06. When I boot to Hboot, it says Revolutionary at the top. Don't know where I went wrong or missed a step.

1.06 is cdma isn't it?

If you're s-off which you are you need to flash recovery next. Read my adb and fastboot faq. Skip the adb stuff.

..and read it properly. Using my root guide would have saved you loads of time because it tells you unrevoked doesn't work with that hboot

You have a s-off phone not a rooted phone. You need to flash a recovery using fastboot then run the root zip that you download off the revolutionary site.

UNREVOKED AND REVOLUTIONARY DO NOT DO THE SAME THING! :)

Or flash a recovery, then a rooted rom.:)

Sorry, if i'm being an a**; but here's the story.

I currently have a PVT 4 S-off desire with Hboot 6.93.1002
I had Amonra 2.01 installed as i had a PVT 4 erase size 40000 desire; before a random restart.
When i booted back to recovery; and tried wiping userdata; it gave me an error like Can't mount : e: Misc missing.
so tried just flashing a rom instead; but to my dismay all data in my memory card was gone.
Now, the LAN Card on my PC does not work; and i always used USB tethering on my phone; for my PC.
And the only backup i had in my PC was Cyanogen 7.1.0; so i put it on memory card and turned my phone on back to normal.
Now, i wanted to flash gapps as well; and i couldn't find the version i wanted; so had to resort to downloading from ROM manager; but as you are aware it does not allow you to download unless you flash clockwork; so i thought as it is a fake flash; no harm doing it; but to my surprise it actually flashed the recovery 5.0.2.0 on my phone.
Was it due to me being s-off? as the last time i had done it; and because of which i was thinking about a fake flash;i was s-on.
There have been no problems with the recovery!
Now, my question is: since i'm a PVT4 erasesize 40,000 should i NOT stick to CWM; and go back to Amon_ra or is it ok with me continuing to use it??

Rom manager doesn't fake flash any more. That cwm will "work" with 40000 but its a bit shite, hence we only recommend 2.5.0.7 or amonra

Hi chaps, about to root a desire fior a buddy, stuck at work on internal network, hcant find a download for 3.21 will 3.32 work on a desire?

yes yes yes , it worked , cant thank u enuf, i first rooted the htc desire with the standard ..unrevoked 3.32.., trying to install a rom would just not work , in recovery i kept having 5 errors underneath the clockworkmod wrighting, i also had 40,000 in the erase size section and in reboot i had pvt4.

each rom is different and its important to read they whole front page of the rom as it will give you specifics of what is required for it to work properly and the addons

It should work unless you have 0.93 hboot. It may still work even then. Follow it and see, any problems then ask.

Hi

I'm planning on rooting in the new year.. learning all I can before i take the plunge!

This comment caught my eye. I was planning on follwing the [Guide]ROOTING HTC android 2.2 or lower with unrEVOked - Windows (updated 11th November 2011)

I have hboot 0.93.001 - is this a problem?

Hi

I'm just researching before I take the plunge and have a couple of questions..

Ensure if you have used a trick to force apps to SD card, you have undone this.

I have used the trick to free up space.. to reverse this do I just need to use the reverce command:

"pm setInstallLocation 0"

Also do I need to then move all apps back to the phone? This would mean unistalling a lot of apps but I think I would lose them any way so it's not an issue.. I just want to do it right.

I'm currently on 2.2 but would like to try a gingerbread ROM.. if I flash to this would I then need to use the revolutionary system rather than the unrevoked?

I understand a gold card is advisiable as I have a Vodafone phone. I plan to buy a low capacity card.. 2gb for this and just keep that as a spare in case it's needed.. my current card I would then wipe and partition to use as the main card for the phone. Is this ok?

Thanks

It actually gives you more options. Unrevoked should work, but if not you can go via the Revolutionary method (like i did)
