Hands on w/ Galaxy Note 10 / 10+

I'm in Europe (UK to be precise), and Visa UK have blocked the use of MST over here.

However, that's a moot point really, because nearly all terminals are contactless anyway.

I'm pretty that no mag-stripe only payment cards are used in the UK and Europe at all now, and neither in Asia. And all current terminals there are Chip and PIN and/or Tap and Pay capable.

Samsung only has MST to support some legacy EPOS terminals in the US, for their Samsung Pay?

BTW when I was in the UK, last month I was able to use TenPay and AliPay at a Chinese supermarket in London, which doesn't require a credit card terminal at all. You just scan a printed QR code with your phone.

looks like mr unbox therapy guy is still loving the note 10+:

i agree we do not talk enough about MST tech that samsung has put into their flagship phones and how cool it really is. Also that samsung does not advertise this enough. i do love to amaze people when i either whip out the phone or using my gear s3 frontier watch to pay for my purchases.

For a tech guy, I'm not enamoured.

Far too much pausing, rambling, but also, not enough knowledge or research.

It's MST, Magnetic Secure Transaction.

It is proprietary to Samsung after they bought out the company that invented it.

And yes, not a big enough fuss is made about it, however for me it's also irrelevant as chip and pin and tap are common in the UK.

However, I'm still "that guy with the phone" as many shops do not realise that the contactless limit of £30 GBP that applies to physical cards, does not apply to Apple/Google/Samsung pay etc...

I've yet to test the upper limit of Google Pay or Samsung Pay because my primary card uses its own app (Barclaycard).

This allows for payments over £30 up to £100 by entering a pin on my phone.

I believe that Google et all just need you to unlock your phone with your biometrics...

(To be fair, the new version of the Barclaycard app now takes fingerprints, so the pin may also be redundant - I haven't made a big enough transaction yet)

I do have to say that this IS terminal dependent, as not all terminals will accept higher payments.

No headphone jack kills it for me. I've had all of the Note models since 3, now on 9. Won't be a 10 in my future. WTH is Samsung thinking?

well you might have to get used to it. i believe this is the direction all devices will be heading......and you can thank apple for this. they started this trend.

my only wish is that they should have included a dingle for those who still want to plug in.

While I do indeed use Jabra BT ear buds 99% of the time, there are times where I forget to bring them with me or forget to charge them and I like having the option of plugging in. I've collected many wired sets over the years with various phones I've bought and usually have a set no matter where I go.

The Jabra's are a bit expensive to have many scattered about as such.

Just watched the video unbox guy above. Seems they do have wired earbuds that come with it that utilizes the usb-c port. Hmm, that changes everything now. Having at least 1 wired set at work would be great because that's where I usually would need them if I don't have the BT buds.

They do indeed come with a pair of quite good wired buds.

Although no adapter is included, they can be picked up cheaply, and from what I'm told, all seem to work - but i cannot verify this.

The lack of 3.5mm is like dropping removable batteries, it's inevitable.

There will be more USB-C headphones on the market, and with the cheap adapter I think it really is a non issue.

Also, more and more are going wireless. Yes it has issues for gaming and soundtrack slip on videos, but if your just using them to listen to music, that's less of an issue.

Well hell, after finishing some more research I decided to pull the trigger on it and Samsungs sales site is broken. Won't let me complete the purchase. Tried both the app and on pc. Maybe it's an omen.

You would think they would take care of their sales portal a little better. I went to the sales support chat earlier and told them the problem and 1½ hrs later it's still down.

never had any issues with the site. perhaps clear cookies and cache. the app and website have been fine in my usage. im in the US so YMMV...

I went through hell on the site 4 days ago and gave up and ordered buds as a GUEST and zero issues. Logged in was hell.

Hmm, I'll give that a try. Thanks.

No dice. There is no guest option.

Tried all of that, I'm in the U.S. as well, even tried it with the app, tried it on 3 different web browsers and 2 different operating systems Windows 7 and 10 to no avail.

Just thought of something. I'll try it in Linux I have that I run in a virtual box.

No joy on Linux. Guess I'll wait till tomorrow when people get back to work and if it's still down I'll call it in.

Figured out what was causing the problem, now to figure out how to correct it. Some time over the years I have made 2 Samsung accounts each using one each of my email addresses I have. One account shows half of all the products I've bought and registered, the other account shows the other half. Not sure how I did that but now I need to contact Samsung and see if I can get them merged as one has points accrued the other does not.

One that has the points does not work for purchasing for some unknown reason the other one does but has no points, well it'll have 1000 points since using it to buy the Note 10+ ( woohoo!! ) should be here in a couple days, they gave me $600 trade value for my Note 9 so I'm happy about that.

What a snafu. Felt like I was in the twilight zone there for a bit lol.
