Root Has anybody rooted using this tool?

hi, this is mine first post- I want to root and install custom ROM.
Can I use this aahk, then flash radio and put revolution hd? Is it enough?
It is confusing for me that they not suggest clockwork mod recovery for flashing this recommended radio 12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19_M- may be I must use their tool for radio?
In any case, is this good procedure to follow?
thanks very much

Welcome to AF! :)

The tool roots, S-OFF's and installs clockwork mod for you. To flash a ROM after that, you'll need to select a ROM and go through whatever the install procedures are for that particular ROM. There are a couple of guides linked here.

Flashing a radio for a ROM isn't always needed, but it is recommended and in most cases you need what's called ENG S-OFF to do so. There's a guide on how to do it here: [GUIDE] How to Flash a Radio.IMG Win/Mac - xda-developers. There is another method that doesn't use ENG S-OFF, but I've never done it that way so I can't confirm how easy/hard it is.

Be careful though as a bad radio flash can brick the handset so make sure you read the guide a few times and understand it before you attempt it.

Thanks, boss
I like this forum- xda is too big and with too much limitations...
May be is good idea to install runny with 3.5 sense?
If I understand it is not needed to do any radio update for this one- just this aahk and then install it with rom manager, isn't it???

Thanks, I prefer this place to XDA too.

As far as I'm aware, there isn't a recommended radio for Runny, but I've never tried that one so can't comment for sure. You can install Rc Mix from ROM Manager, but as it's your first time flashing, I'd probably recommend doing it yourself, just so you can get to grips with Clockwork. As it happens, I actually have an install procedure for that particular ROM here. Have a read through it and if there's anything you're not sure about, feel free to ask. :)

Forgive the n00b first post
The wife wants me to sort out her DHD so the battery lasts longer.
Am I getting this right ?
Run this tool and let it do it's thing.
It more or less looks and acts like it did before except it's rooted ?
In the apps there is a ROM manager, run that and let it download CM7?
I don't have to download to the PC, copy and paste it onto the SD card and do the volume down and power button thing ?

Sorry but I got a bit lost after a few posts
I just want to get it straight in my head before I brick her new phone :)

Aye, that's pretty much it in a nutshell.

You're better off installing manually from clockwork as opposed to letting ROM Manager handle the install for you. There's CM7 install instructions in the sticky at the top of this forum.

Have a look through that, let me know if it makes sense?

As El Presidente says, it's better to handle the install yourself, but it is really straight forward!!

Honestly mate as Prez and D-U-R-X have posted its a piece of piss if you follow the instructions. It may look a bit complicated first time but once you start off you'll be fine. Any problems, post back here and the guy's will sort you out.

I have done all without problems, thanks for great support...
I installed this rcmix v4- I works good I think.
Only it seems to me battery goes faster- do I need to do something about that?
thanks again

Good to know it worked for you mate!! As you've flashed a new ROM, it would be worth calibrating the battery (following the link in El Presidente's post above your's)... this would reset the battery stats and, as such, give you a true reflection of your battery performance - sometimes flashing a ROM can mess your battery stats up a little!

A big thank you to El Presidente for his superb write up on how to Flash a new rom on to my HTC Desire HD.

Whilst not new to upgrading firmwares etc on other bits of kit, this was my first attempt on an Android phone, and I am now getting to the age where senility and forgetting things comes with greater ease day by day :(

However, following his write up, all went without a hitch, and I am now the proud owner of a better working phone - Now to do my friends who is even older than me :D

Yep, that El Presidente is a pretty cool guy....... :p

It's a good feeling when it finally boots for the first time isn't it? What did you end up going for?

Went for CM7.1 with gapps, LorDmods kernel with UV addon - very happy so far, and now midway through battery cal. :)

Once you're done on the battery calibration, then look at UV... performance is really pretty good when using the UV scripts!! :)
