have you guys seen this video from apple?

But, while holding my droid x like described in the video, i have yet to have a single dropped call, and other than my girlfriends mumbling sometimes, lol, i have yet to even have to say "What was that?" Just take your fail apple, this is not becoming of you

Do not tell me it was false because I was able to replicate it. I don't speak for everyone. All I stated was that in a low signal area I was able to replicate signal loss. However, the call did not drop.

I guess my point is that all phones when in the right conditions will lose signal. The media attacked Apple before looking at other phones because Apple is a big target. Apple is showing off the same results with competitors. At least they have the decency to show the iPhone losing bars as well.

i have worked with / repaired cell phones for over 13 years and yes some antennas are not suited to their job such as the the early samsung's but i have never encountered any manufacturer who thought for a microsecond to put the antenna on the external rim of the phone. the reason being exactly what apple are facing now.
it's about time apple just owned this and coughed up to their balls up. they'd get a damned site more respect if they did instead of trying to and failing to demonstrate any other phones with the same problem as theirs.

and no i'm not a apple hater i have a iphone 3gs along with a htc droid.

Yeah, I have an EVO and could not get my device to drop a call either no matter how I held the thing.

I then wanted to do another test. I had my 20lb. cat sit on the phone while it was on a call. And unfortunately the call disconnected. So I do not know if it was because my cat had it in the butt grip or he hit the end button? My phone is a little brown now........

I am going to do another test. I am going to put my evo in the street and drive my car over it to see if it will drop bars when my front tire is sitting on it.......If it drops bars, then I must agree with Steve Jobbs that all these phones have issues.

Lets get this straight from the door, so there are no misunderstandings. I AM NOT CALLING YOU A LIAR I AM JUST GOING TO STATE MY OPINION. :)

I find it hard to believe you had this problem and even harder to believe it is because of your BIG hands. I have the X and I do not lose signal like that when I hold the bottom. top, or sides. As far as big hands go, I have studied martial arts for over 30 years and taught for about half of that time.

I conditioned my hands for breaking concrete, wood and various other items including bones. in the last year I added almost half an inch to the thickness of my hands. This is called Wolfs law you can look it up.

It deals with how bone and tissue can have their density increased by continuous impact. (like a runners ankles) Also known as compact bone.

Anyway, I am 6ft1 and 300+lbs with all of this in mind I have VERY large hands, size and thickness. As I stated I do not lose signal from this. In my opinion if you are having this issue you may have a defective unit.

While it is true that any phone will have SOME signal reduction if you cover the antenna this video is way worse than I have ever experienced with a phone. Also I am not a Droid X fan boy. I may be actually returning it, It just hasn't grown on me and I still have to decide. :eek:
 
Yeah, if you cover any antenna it will loose signal. My old ass moto razr would do this if you cupped the top of it. The difference here is that your hand would short out the antenna all together on the iphone causing a total loss of service all together. On all the other phones, you just loose signal strength. They still function though. I agree, apple is trying to point out that other phones can do this, but its not the same as their junk. Theirs is totally poor design.
 
Apple's marketing machine has just worked by having everyone distracted by the X.

But Apple's iphone problem isn't what they are showing in their test of other products. Their problem is the bridging of the antenna with your hand, and dropping calls because of the iphone's physical antenna design flaw.

Now cupping and holding a phone a certain way is one thing, but why apple isn't focusing on engineering a proper antenna is beyond me. Instead apple is wasting their time creating this crap.

Consumer reports tested iphone in the lab, and ANYONE can reproduce the iphone antenna design flaw.

Now apple tests an X in a conference room with people running around, and NOBODY can recreate this? I think apple is full of iCrap.
 
HA! I tried to see if I could replicate. I put 2 hands around the phone as tight as I could and held it for about 2 minutes. I had 2 bars before I touched the phone.....When they moved, I gained 1 bar....to 3 bars.....Then it went to 4 bars......

I don't want to hear this BS and I'm tired of Apple throwing other cell phone companies under the bus. They are the ONLY people that have had customers complain about this...
 
Ladies and gentlemen, I'd like to direction your attention to how the phone is held. This isn't a brick flip phone that you hold with your palm. You hold it with your damn fingers. Contrary to the iPhone 4 problem where you better do your research on how to hold it right else your boyfriend/girlfriend/mom/grandma won't be too happy you hung up on them.
 
We need the cavemen from the Geico commercials....that's who I envision holding a phone like this. Otherwise...WTF?

Yeah I tried vigorously to replicate this, and couldnt with 2 hands wrapped around it I still had signal. I think Motorola should sue Apple for slander, they probably used a jammer to kill the signal on the test devices.

I think any video showing a reception drop (regardless of phone) is completely meaningless. Because in the end, individual results may vary.
 
I always thought one of the first rules of overall maturity was "don't drag others down to make yourself look better", thats what all the dim-witted school yard bullies do. If you want to make yourself look better...LOOK BETTER than the others. Trying to knock the legs out from under the competition just shows that you don't have two legs to stand on yourself.
I use to love Apple products, but seeing how they've handled their own short comings makes me re-evaluate the value of Apple as a whole. Total @sses.
 
Individual results may vary. That's the bottom line.

Some people can't recreate the bar drop with their droid X and some people (like myself) can't recreate the bar drop with their Iphone 4. In the end, these kinds of videos are meaningless.
