Root [HELP] CM9 Roaming

IMUcarmen

Android Expert
Last night my phone went into roaming mode though I hadn't turned it on, I'm not sure what happened because I haven't messed with the radio at all. I ended up going to bed with it roaming and this morning I was able to get data working again by dirty flashing cm9. I thought all was well until later in the day I tried sending an sms and they wouldn't go through. Then I tried to make a phone call and it wouldn't go through. So I restarted and my phone went back into roaming mode.

Then I decided to wipe data and flash cm9, but that didnt work

Then I wipe data and flashed playfulgods SOTARD stock ics rom, and that to was stuck in roaming

Then I flashed back to cm9 and took a nap

I was finally able to get my phone working again but the thing is I didn't really do anything. I just sat in settings turning data on and off, turning airplane mode on and off, going into the hidden menu settings and turning radio on and off, changing the default radio setting from cdma only, to lte / cdma only. I just kept changing settings and it finally came back and now my phone, messaging, and data all work again (but for how long I don't know).

I hope someone can make some sense of this because it makes no sense to me at all.

I'm glad you were able to get out of it. I've had to flash DD images back to my phone to clear it up each time it happens to me. It's a really annoying bug.

thanks for responding neph. I mainly wanted to make sure it wasnt just me because I hadn't seen anyone post anything about it so I felt alone and thought maybe it was because of something I had done. Makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one.

Nope, it's on my list of bugs to work on. Right now it's MDN being read, WAP, MMS, GPS, then roaming bug. I'm hoping MDN being read clears up the first 3 thou.

In the settings where you turn data on, switch from nv to ruim/sim and reboot. That'll fix it. The same thing happened to me twice and that fixed it both times.

When I finally got it to work again I was thinking changing those settings is what had an effect on it. Glad that you can confirm this. Thanks

No problem. I figured this out back when I was testing cm9 when tdm and everybody first got it working. I should have let everybody know about it back then but didn't even think about it.

I know the cause of this... in build.prop there is a line:

ril.subscription.types=NV,RUIM

change flip the two around so its,

ril.subscription.types=RUIM,NV

and it *should* prevent this from happening again

This will be changed in future builds.

Yeah i noticed that did something, nice find

Thanks for the tip death. I'm going to change that now

No problem, funny how one minor line can affect the entire system. I wonder if this will fix activation issues too, since default is set to NV but should be RUIM, which if it does, would fix the MDN and in turn probably fix MMS. Hmmm.

This seems to have worked. At least on the first reboot.

Tried this, rebooted into roaming, messed with the settings a little but couldn't get roaming off. Changed the build.prop back, rebooted and everything went back to normal.

I'm stuck in roaming after installing cm9, I have tried install different roms to try and fix the problem but nothing is working. Any idea on how to fix

Do this:

In the settings where you turn data on, switch from nv to ruim/sim and reboot. That'll fix it. The same thing happened to me twice and that fixed it both times.

Until the devs get the issue fixed in the build.prop, this method should fix it for you.

The R is gone from the notification bar, but now my phone is not getting any data service 3g or 4g, do you know what steps to take to fix that?

You can try turning your radio off then on again. In the dialer, type *#*#4636#*#* then choose phone options and turn radio off. Wait a minute or so then turn it back on. If that doesn't work, you could wipe /data although that will wipe *all* your data. You would have to redownload apps, etc.

Not for me. That was the first thing I tried and nothing worked. I tried 30 different things, including wiping and flashing several times. I finally had to flash the cab to get my radio back.

k, I need help, STAT.

I flashed the cab and I'm STILL stuck in 'roaming' mode. I need one of the devs to chime in and offer some advice, because it makes no sense to me that I can't connect to VZ, unless the hardware is switched wrong and I need to reflash AOKP to set it back.

Can someone tell me what the sim setting is under their 'network'? Is it 'NV' or 'sim"?

type *#*#4636#*#* in dialer and double check the settings there. It might not be a bad idea to turn the radio off then back on either.

it needs to be set to SIM

I would just flash aokp41 or cm10 and then you should be able to make whatever changes you need to get data working again. Like brian said you need to be set to sim and that should get you out of roaming mode. You may have to turn airplane mode on and off or use the 4636 menu and turn the radio off and on there.

No dice guys; I turned the radio in and off at least 20 times. I finally got it when I went to sim, then rebooted after setting to lte/CDMA. Pain in the asssssss.lol
