Root Help. Evo is so f't up.

OK so occasionally my evo will have a problem with the right side of the touch screen. This problem comes and goes. Today it came on hard.

I use the trace pattern lock to lock the phone and since the right side wouldn't work I couldn't unlock it. I tried until I used up too many attempts and then I had the option of entering my email address and password. Great except the right side of the keyboard doesn't work.

So in the meantime I can only take incoming calls. Major problem for work but oh well. I get home and hope plugging phone into my computer will allow me to at least salvage all the important information that is only saved there.

No luck, charge only, and I have no way of switching to disk drive.

So it's basically a brick. Maybe the device isn't salvageable but is there anyway I can get my important files off and save them?

Any help, suggestions, anything, will be super appreciated.
Thanks and if it changes anything I'm using linux ubuntu and don't have easy access to windows or a mac.

out of curiosity what files do you need? there might be a way to get what you are looking for, since you are rooted. i would make a nandroid backup
cuz you might be able to pull stuff from it. here is the thread that explains about it:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/319602-read-copy-contents-nandroid-backups.html

Off the top of my head I need the file that has my expense account.

"hello expense" is the app.
color note
my contacts haven't been synced with google in awhile.

Im sure there's more but that's all I can think of without access.

well here is something that might help:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/319602-read-copy-contents-nandroid-backups.html

with this you will be able to pull apps and its data from any nandroid backup you have made. so just make a nandroid backup and run the script that akazabam has created.

also gonna move this thread to the rooting section as this applies only to rooted phones.

Sounds like a hardware problem to me.

When you use unandroid use the SD option (system & data) if you have an extended partition then you will either want to use a Linux live cd to get access to the drive or try to extract the .img with 7zip. Linux would be easiest.

You should be able to go into recovery and choose usb toggle. That will give you access to your sdcard data only. So you will need the extracted files on your sdcard

Brought it in to the tech's. They swapped out my screen and some other easy to replace things for 35$. I tried a factory reset but all I have os the MIK homescreen wall paper without anything but the top tool bar and no response from any buttons. Going to try flashing another rom to the sd replace mik and see what happens.

They said if I come back with s on, and the stock rom they'll work with me.

Any ideas on my current situation?

MikG stores important system files on the data partition, so when you do a factory reset you lose important pieces of the ROM. All you have to do is reflash MikG or restore a nandroid and you're fine.

Tried restoring the nandroid that I had... but that one was from post problem. I hope I can salvage info off that one.

Anyway I'm going to go back to stock for a few minutes just to do something drastic and see if it works.

Well couldn't find my stock rooted copy so just tried the mikg I had. No luck same situation. Getting nervous now. Like this thing might really be bricked? Maybe I need to change the kernel?
