Whats your hboot version and your Baseband / radio version?

If you have hboot # 2.10 use this guide:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html

If it's older we'll need to do a little digging to find the older root threads. :o

Post back what hboot version you have and we'll get you moving in the right direction. Lots of good help around. :)

Pull the battery out of the phone. Insert it back in.

Hold power + Volume down buttons

This will bring you to the H-boot screen. Post your results.

Do you want to be completely unrooted? Or would you like to keep root capabilities and get back on the stock ROM to get activated?

If you were going to sell the phone I would unroot it. We see a lot of problems on here with people that bought an EVO without knowing it was rooted and they just want it back to stock and have no clue what they're doing.

See my previous comments about getting to the hboot screen. We need that information to give you the unroot method. It's different depending on your hboot.

i dont have the phone with me but what determines the hboot

Well the H-boot changes with a lot of the updates that HTC/Sprint puts out in order to close prior security holes that are used to gain root access. With each new H-boot is usually a new root method. Depending on which method you used to root the phone, theres a different method to unroot it.

unrEVOked is a little funny in that it uses baseband version too. Chances are the first link provided to you will work, but theres no guarantee unless we get that info

i broke the screen on my rooted evo, so i ordered a new screen. however i swapped back to my evo shift for the time being. now trying to swap back, my rooted evo is not recognizing the ##****# codes that sprint gave me. what do i do? do i have to un root it completely? not sure my h-boot version but i have clockworkmod recovery v5.0.2.2 and im running RCMix3D Runny rom

I believe the sense 3.5 roms don't have that working because they didn't come from Sprint

Do a nandroid, flash a stock ROM, so sprint's setup and then restore the nandroid

is the stock rom still on there? or do i have to download it? im tethering and it takes forever. lol no 4g where i live yet

OK I have to jump in this thread. My EVO has to go in for troubleshooting because my data isn't working and nothing Tech Support did helped, so I need to get back to stock (and hope they don't update it while I'm there, cause I'd cry). I've got my hboot screen, but it says "hboot-6.16.1002". Granite's post mentions an hboot #2.10, so I don't think I'm looking in the right place. What line am I looking for to see what I'm running so I can unroot? Or go back to a stock that the people won't realize is rooted.

Use the gingerbread edition of the dummies guide. There is an unrooting section. I'd link you but I'm on my phone.

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
first before you try and unroot, have you tried other roms? a lot of those issues could be rom related and not hardware related. what roms have you tried? also what would help if you post the info on your hboot screen.

+1

I agree 100%, even trying a cache and dalvik cache wipe may clear up the issues.

More than likely a fresh flash will be the best solution.

Welcome to the forums also!! :D

yes you can that is what nandroid backups are for. if you flash a rom and you want to go back you can just restore your nandroid backup. always make a nandroid backup before flashing anything.

and you are sure that you have s-off? your hboot is wrong if it is 2.16. it should be 6.16.
