Root Help, I softbricked phone while attempting to root

I attempted a few times to root my phone, but was never successful in gaining full access that would allow me to remove unwanted carrier apps etc. I was attempting to solve the problem when the phone softbricked. My last effort involved installing a PC36IMG.zip that was apparently the wrong one for my phone. I can gain access to the bootloader screen. I admit, I really don't know what I am doing. Any help would be appreciated.

My current set-up is:

Android 2.3.5

Revolutionary
Supersonic EVT3 Ship S-Off
Hboot-6.16.1002
Microp-041f
Touch Panel-ATMEL224_16ab
Radio-2.15.0012.19

Good Morning and Welcome to AF!!
It appears you are fully rooted as that is what my hboot screen says also.
Do you have the superuser app in your app drawer?
Can you access recovery from the bootloader screen?
If you can get into recovery, we can try to wipe cache and dalvik cache, then reboot.
Do you recall what PC36IMG file you were trying to install?

I had superuser. As of this writing, I am not sure what I have as I cannot access anything beyond the bootloader screen.
I can access recovery, but if I select it, I receive the triangle with the exclamation point.
The PC36IMG file was 1.47.651.1_eng-hboot_RA-1.7.0.1
It's glaringly obvious that it was the wrong one.

Thanks

yikes!!!! well this is a good lesson to learn. you have to be very careful in what you are installing onto your phone. hopefully we can get you fixed.

the red triangle is because when you ran the ruu, it wiped your recovery. so lets get recovery back.

go here:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html and go to the switching recovery section. it has instructions on how to get recovery. the only thing is you will need to get the file onto your card somehow. you will need a card reader to do this.

Sounds like you haven't got a customed recovery installed.
I'd recommend any recovery based of RA Recovery by Amon RA.

Edit: Too Slow!!

Fortunately, I have the card reader aspect of this covered. I can add and remove items directly to the card with it out of the phone. I'll give your suggestion a try.

Thanks

Okay, I followed the instructions step by step. I successfully loaded Amon RA recovery based on the instructions in the switching recovery section. Everything seemed to go well, however I still have the white screen with HTC EVO 4G when I attempt to power on or use recovery.

Thoughts?

When you select recovery from hboot it won't load correct?

First thing would be redownloading the recovery and try reinstalling. If that doesn't work, we have have some bigger problems caused by the incorrect PC36IMG

I can access and have accessed recovery and created a nandroid backup. However, the phone will not operate. With normal power up, I get the white screen.

That's an excellent sign that you can access recovery.
Either a: wipe cache and dalvik cache and reboot or
b: flash a rom

What would you recommend? I promise if it goes bad, I won't be upset. I wouldn't be any worse off than I am now. Please, go ahead and walk me through like I am the idiot I feel like I am.

Thanks.
No problem!
Go here
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...-rooting-gingerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html

Click on "show" of htcdev method....then scroll down to "flash the su file or flash a rom" click on "show"
Go to flash a rom....there will be a link for the superwipe (which is a wiping tool used before a rom flash) and a link for MikG....
Personally, I would wipe all 3 times EXCEPT YOUR SD CARD...
Any questions post back here sir!!:D

Edit: that's how to flash a rom...would you prefer wiping cache and dalvik first?

What would I prefer first? I really haven't a clue. You tell me.

It looks like I now have a working and hopefully fully rooted phone. I will know for certain once I reactivate phone and data service on it.

A couple of issues.
I can't seem to access any apps or even data on my SD card. The items are there, the card is mounted, but I cannot access the apps or data. ????
I really wasn't expecting to have a new ROM. Although it seems superior to the factory system, it is going to take some getting used to.

In total, I am absolutely pleased to be well on my way to having a once again serviceable, and apparently a fully rooted EVO.

Seriously! Thanks for the help and instructions.

Now, how in the world do I access the items on the SD card?

what happens when it is connected to the pc? nothing? does it just charge?

Similarly to how it worked with the standard ROM, I am taken to a screen that offers a choice of charge, drive, sync, internet pass through, and USB tethering.

well what happens when you select disc drive? a pop up on your pc should come up with your cards content.

just trying to get at how you can't get access to your card.

I can access the contents from my Mac and from Windows using VMWare Fusion. No problems there. I just cannot access the contents on the phone, not yet anyway, even if the phone indicates that the SD Card is mounted. It is puzzling.

What application you using to view the stuff?
If you're wanting to look at file you need to d/l a file manager, like es or I like Xplore or Solid.
Or you mean the gallery isn't letting you view your pictures?
You could reboot into recovery and clear cache and dalvik and then fix permissions and see if that fixes any problems with the applications you have installed
