Root Help!? Just bought an Evo 4G off of Ebay and I think it is rooted??

Will this overwrite my last Nandroid Recovery? I would like to have both my old Stock one and my new MikG ROM one if possible.

It does not overwrite it. You will have both saved on your SD card. Its a good idea to copy them to your computer just in case your SD card goes out

Basically dont use it as your primary source of internet, but its great for situations when your on the go and need something quick and available for a laptop or tablet.

Okay;) And I have heard of some apps like Titanium Back up, what does that do? And I just made a Nandroid Backup of my current ROM and I would like to copy both of my Nandroid Backups to my Computer. Where are the Nandroid Backups located on my SD Card?

Nandroids are located in a folder on the sd card called nandroid :)

TB is a backup application that is able to backup other apps and their data. So if you really dont want to lose your progress on lets say Angry Birds you can back up the data so when you flash a new ROM you can restore it.

Don't backup system apps with TB (phone, messages, ect) because they change from ROM to ROM, but its great for games and other things you download from the market

Okay sounds great and I found the Nandroid Backups. I was only supposed to select boot, data, system and wimax right?

yep that is correct. there is no need to do the others unless you have your card partitioned then you should also do sd ext as well.

also a good idea is to have at least one backup with wimax saved to your computer and even on the cloud like dropbox. and after that wimax is not needed. you just want wimax backed up someplace because it is very rare, but possible that you could loose your wimax keys and then you will not have 4g anymore. they are phone specfic and once they are gone then they are gone. but if you have wimax backed up in your nandroid backup then you are good to go. i have my very first nandroid backup with wimax that i did when i was on froyo!!!

so for me since i have wimax backed up already i only do the first three and that is it. nandroid backups can take up a lot of room and wimax will make it that much bigger so i now only do the first three and that is it.

Okay... is there a kernal that could make my battery life better but keep my performance the same?? Sounds like it would not be possible but just wondering...

Well, not all kernels act the same in peoples phone. Generally, flashing a custom kernel will increase the performance and battery life of the phone.

There are some that do this better than others, but you know know unless you try one.

Kernels also need a few days to "settle in". Battery life is usually not so good when you first flash and improves after a day or two.

Agressive Freedom:

Anthrax V9:

If you listen to music a lot on your phone, anthrax is supposed to make it sound better by having better decompression ect

Okay I heard some stuff about kernals that allows you to put beats audio on your evo... can you do that? Do you need to flash a kernal or a rom? Or can you just put it on another way? I would like to put on one of those kernals that you mentioned earlier so could I have both beats audio and one of the kernals you mentioned before?

Well AnthraX originally had beats code baked into it. Thats the reason it was taken down.

But there were leaked beats libs that you can flash to any gingerbread ROM.

Personally AnthraX sounds fine by itself, but you can always go Anthrax+leaked beats libs

Okay, no big deal just heard some stuff about it... and you said that Anthrex gives a better amount of battery life and performance right?

Over the stock kernel I get better battery life with both AnthraX and Aggressive Freedom.

Comparing the two: I get a some more battery life with aggressive freedom and better performance with Anthrax.

Overall, I'd suggest anthrax. Just try it out flashing kernels is no big deal. If if doesnt work you flash another.

Remember, only wipe Dalvik Cache & cache before flashing a kernel

Okay and one last question before I flash it... When I add Custom ROMs in will I have to go back to a stock kernal or just keep the AthraX Kernal? The reason I ask is I will probably be changing a ROM that most likely will be ICS sometime in the future so I would like to know this before I flash it.

ICS ROMS require ICS kernels, Froyo ROMS require Froyo kernels and gingerbread ROMS require gingerbread kernels.

Also, Sense-based ROMS need sense kernels and AOSP ROMs need AOSP kernels.

So Anthrax and Aggressive freedom will both only work on gingerbread sense based ROMS

Every rom you flash wil have either a stock kernel or a modified kernel included in the .zip. So every time you flash a new rom you'll need to flash the kernel that you find has the best fit for your phone. ;)

As far as ICS goes I believe there is only the kernel that comes with the rom. I don't think there is any other kernel available. Also make sure when you get a kernel you know what you are flashing over. Sense kernels only work on sense roms, and AOSP kernels with AOSP roms. Once you look at the breakdown in the roms and kernels sticky, you'll see they are broken down into seperate categories.

If you get confused or get stuck, just post back, we'll get you rolling. :)

Also @ RXpert, you go homie, rockin the support!! :D

Okay so if I flashed that anthrax kernal you were taking about and later on downloaded an ics ROM it would already have a kernal so I wouldnt have to switch kernals or anything like that?

Every ROM has to include a default kernel. You can flash new ones over once the ROM is installed. Flashing a new ROM will therefore overwrite whatever kernel you were running previously on your phone. There is nothing to uninstall and honestly if you never want to flash a custom kernel then you never have to.

So is there really even a point in flashing a new kernal? Does it actually give you a noticebly better amount of battery life and for anthrax skund quality?

The people that make custom kernels take HTC's code (for sense kernels) and build off of it. They add new tweaks, new abilities, new governors and overall make it a better kernel.

They are an improvement over the stock kernel. You just have to find the right one for your phone.

Okay sounds good, I will flash it in a minute. I have some questions about some of the rooted apps that came preinstalled... What is adfree? Also what is Superuser? And lastly, is there any way to get some of the Sprint Apps back?
