Root Help, root on Linux Ubuntu

can someone help me root on linux, i have 2.3.5:( (i didnt know at the time what evils i was doing) and im pretty new at this i wouldnt say totally noob but still pretty bad so if you could walk me through and explain exactly whats going on. i wanna get the free hot spot thing and maybe a rom when i understand it more

ok and, in plain human, what exactly will unlocking my boot loader do? will the drivers on the link to unlock the boot loader work on Linux??
 
Basically.... Since you have accepted the new OTA, the only way to root the phone is by going through HTC. HTC unlocks the bootloader which then places a watermark on it that automatically voids your warranty. It is possible to get this watermark off but its fairly complicated.

Rooting only takes 5 minutes or so if you have the old bootloader (by not accepting the OTA), but now its more complicated for those that have already accepted it.

no they will not. Linux does not have the save file system as Windows. I don't know if you can root under the current one in Linux or not. You should read the guides to find out all the information you need.
