Root Help stuck in bootloader

I get an error with ext2 to ext3.
Oops... something went wrong! Please check the recovery log!

Note: The sd card I'm using isn't one I bought and was never used with this Evo ever. The previous owner took the original sd card that has all the rom info on it. And the recovery has several problems with my SD card. I formatted it on the computer with the link hat dustwun77 provided.

next time you get an error in recovery go to the main menu and select either advanced or other and find the option to move recovery log to the sd card. once that is done go to your computer and move the log over from the phone to the computer and bring up the recovery log. report back what it shows.

also what issues is your recovery having with the sd card?

I'm not able to move the recovery.log to the sd card neither. I get the same problems where it says "Oops". I used to be able to do stuff with the sdcard like flash a zip, but Idk what I did with the card to mess it up with the recovery. Because the bootloader still detects when I have a PC36IMG.zip on my sdcard, but recovery always has problem with the SDcard. I'm still able to partition the SDcard through recovery, though.

I wonder if your recovery is messed up? You said it recognizes PC36IMG.zip files, have you considered reflashing your recovery and seeing if it works better?

I get the same error when trying to move the recovery.log.
Anytime I try to do something with the SDcard in recovery, I either get the Oops error or the can't mount sdcard error.

This thread has me thinking alot about this and I am following it to learn and trying to think of what the prob. could be...
Dont fret, ocn and the rest of the gang will help you figure it out:D

I even flashed ClockwordMod recovery and tried to do some stuff with it but I still get sdcard errors on that too.
So far on AmonRA, I get sdcard errors with my 2GB and 8GB microSD card

And just to verify, you can only get into recovery when your phone is connected to computer right?
When it is connected, is it mounted or charge only.?

Yes, only while connected to the computer. I think it's only charging because I don't see the card on the computer (if that's how you know if it's mounted).

P.S. My phone is Unlocked through HTCDev. I'm telling you guys this now because on the first post, the phone was locked.

Humor me for a sec, when you are connected, and in recovery, (I assume you have amon ra but clockwork will probably have this too) In Amon ra, there is an option to toggle ms usb or something like that.....that will mount your card so you can see card contents on computer...when you are done, toggle it again to unmount.

I toggle it and it says USB-MS enabled, but I still can't see the card on the computer.
Do I have the right HTC Sync? I'm using setup_3.0.5551.exe

EDIT: I toggled it back off and now I'm able to do stuff with the microSD card now. I still can't upgrade ext2 to ext3 though. But I was able to move the recovery.log to the card. Thanks. What is the next step to do?

I have 3.2.20...but all you need it for is the drivers...
Pull up your htc sync, and check for update.
But I doubt your version has anything to do with your issue.
Dont know if this will help but it's worth looking into perhaps.

[ How-To ] Fix SD card not being detected & USB port not working - xda-developers

You'll have to have adb setup on computer to use it.

Edit: I just read your edit....maybe postpone this for now.

oh, nice...if you can post that log, ocn would like to see it.
It may look like french to me but he might be able to decipher it.:)

This part here to me is puzzling..
ro.build.description=1.32.651.1 CL171253 test-keys
To me that would be an old software version.
I see you have smelkus mod recovery....thats nice. I run that too.
I wonder if, you download MikG to you computer, transfer it to sd card and flash it.
Follow ocn's post #16.
What do you think?
Well, I just tried going into my build prop to see what mine said and my phone just froze.

Edit: k, got it my ro.build.description is 4.34.651.1 cl61076 release keys.
Yours tells me you somehow have an old version?

Okay, after I wiped everything (except SD card), my card wasn't reading again. So I did the USB Toggle on, then off, and then restarted the phone, went back to recovery and the SD card was reading again. I flashed MikG's 3.11 Full Wipe rom succesfully and now have the EVO fully functional again. Thanks Mikestony & ocnbrze for guiding me through this and helping me.

Now, should I apply that 3.11 update? Are there any tweaks/etc that you guys suggest I should do just for the sake of it?

No do not do the update...that is for v3.1 not v3.11....you are good to go with what you have.
I would first make a nandroid backup!
That is done thru recovery.
