Help Help with 2 email apps

This is what the stock email app looks like.

Do you have the white Note 2 by any chance? I wonder if they themed the mail to match the shell?

Either that or it's a US operator mod and not pure Samsung? I've certainly looked everywhere for some kind of setting.

The closest any combination of keywords in google comes to an answer is this post.

Edit: Another thought. When you are in the settings menu are they the same colour as the email app? I just wondered if that had been changed too.

So wait are you saying Samsung's email app cannot be changed from light to dark? I could have sworn someone said they preferred the dark theme.

There seem to be 2 different colour schemes for the default Samsung mail client. One dark, one light. I have the dark one, themed exactly the way my system settings are. I have not yet found a way to change the mail client theme but have not stopped looking.

Others obviously have a lighter scheme for email.

I do not know yet whether this is a running phone theme (i.e. in the settings menus as well) or restricted just to the mail app.

It would be good to get a tally of users on the thread to try and spot a common reason for the difference. Here's me:

Titanium Grey
System settings screens are same theme as Email

We need to hear from a T-Mobile USA user. At first glance, it appears that the international versions have the dark theme and the US versions have the light theme.

That was me ;) , but after a lot of messing about i have now gone over to using profimail (i had it on my htc desire so just transferred the licence over) , its not ideal but there is a new version due very shortly, but this has a white theme as standrad but with some tweaking that can be found on their forum you can change it to black so im happy now, plus it uses push notifications so was a lot faster than using the samsung app that polls every 5 minutes, i did try messing around setting up microsoft exchange server on the samsung email app but just couldnt get it working right, i couldnt find deleted emails and all the emails i did delete still came through on my desktop pc via outlook, anyway im not going down that route again, just looking forward to profimail version 4 :D

I haven't used Outlook in forever but I vaguely recall a setting to delete mail from server when it's deleted from device or something to that affect.

This way mail you delete doesn't keep reappearing. Like I said, haven't used it in a long time so I could be a bit wrong.

Does the Galaxy S3 have the Samsung mail app? Where is it? I want to test it out before getting my Note II in less than two weeks

Yes, it's the same as on many of the Samsung Androids. The app is just called Email. Any Pop3, Imap, Activesync or other email account you set up in the accounts section will be seen in that app. Gmail is different but as said earlier you can connect to gmail by pop/imap or activesync to view it in the Samsung app.

Is that the app with the closed envelope and red @ seal on the back?

If so, that is the email app I am using now.

Oh...

On the Note II you can only get a Black background and cannot change it to white?

Currently on the GS3 I have a white background and could never figure out how to change it to black.

Let's face it....Android email sucks. Coming from the iPhone, the worst thing about Android is its email.

I am thankful that Google bought Sparrow and that a decent email app may be forthcoming. Sparrow has an AWESOME email app on Apple.

Different themed versions totally stupid surely Samsung must have a way of changing via a software update has anyone asked support for an answer.

When you say "Android email", do you mean the gMail app or the email app? The "email" app is manufacturer dependent.

I've used an iphone before and that email app was nothing to write home about. It was mediocre. In fact, the only good thing about the iphone's email app was pinch-to-zoom and html rendering.

Having just moved from the iPhone I found the iPhone native email app very, very poor. No folders was one of the problems.
I actually signed up for a gmail account just so I could get an improved experience on the iPhone. Having done that I still did not look at my email on the phone very often as the screen was too small.
With email on a phone you have to look at the dual experience of screen size and the email client.

If I am correct, when I say "Android email" I am referring to the closed white envelope with red @ seal on the back.

That is the email app I use (not the Gmail app).

I suppose everyone is going to have different opinions, but for me, it pales in comparison to the iPhone email. I probably feel more strongly about this than others due to the fact that I had it synced with my other Apple devices which is not as fluent on the Android side.

"Android email pales in comparison".....Has Apple finally gotten around to batch delete or is it still one at a time?

ScandaLex,

Can't say. I have not used iOS 6 (I think that is the newest version).

The one big problem I have with the generic mail app on Android is that when in areas with bad connection, all the mail you have already deleted gets redownloaded over and over again. Never had that problem with Apple mail.

I am not here to start a war of Apple vs. Android mail. I am in a unique position that having Apple devices all my mail synced much better with iCloud using Apple mail over Android. I also think that SPARROW MAIL for iOS was one of the best email clients ever made. It was bought by Google 6 months ago so I am praying for an Android version soon.
