Root Help With "Can't Find Script" Error

I linked to this a few posts up, but if you want to make your own, this is probably easier:

http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...uired-neat-splash-screen-conversion-tool.html

The methods specific to this post are more appropriate for splash screens that have been made to be installed via fastboot. I haven't tested the above, but Mr. Ed seems to think highly of it, and I trust his opinion :).

Oh, and thanks for the confirmation that the PC36IMG method works.

Thanks guys!! MUCH easier to do and easily interchangeable.

And lugic, that's the same setup I got, lol. Probably will be changing these pretty often. Feels so good to be rooted. Seems I find something new everyday. Whooo

Ok so I got the splash screens to work with those instructions.

Now what about boot animations, the screen after the splash? Can't really find any instructions on those that are really simple. Can you use the PC image on that as well? I'm thinking no.

Most of those come as zips that are flashable from recovery. This PC36IMG is meant for flashing a splash screen only. Are you looking at any in particular that aren't flashable from recovery?

The one I just tried did not work. I get this same error as when I tried to flash the splash in my original post.

There are a number of ways to change boot animations. A lot of times, they are provided as flashable zips. As you found out, that's not the case with these.

What you need to do is download the boot animation of your choice, rename it to bootanimation.zip, then either adb push (don't bother if you don't already have it set up) or use root explorer to copy the file to /system/customize/resource/. You will find that there is a bootanimation.zip already in that directory. It would be a good idea to save the one that is already there in case you want to keep it. Reboot and see if it works.

Thanks! I went into Root Explorer and looked and the one in there is not the one I have now. The one I have now is the Droid pissing on the apple. But I believe I flashed the zip so it would not be actually on my phone, correct?

The one in there now is a spinning Android medallion, which I had last week. So if I replace it in there, won't the flashed one still run?

I forgot to ask, what ROM are you using? That could impact the location. It's on your phone somewhere even though you flashed it.

Myn 2.2 Rls 4

And yes! I would like to know where these flashed files go to, so as to clean them up when I don't need them anymore.

Thanks!

haha great minds think alike

for the boot animations I have just been downloading the zip, then renaming it to bootanimation.zip, and then putting it on the root of my sd card, then I unplug my phone form the computer and through Root explorer, I long press on the file on the root of my sd card and select "move" then I navigate to system-customize-resource (i think) and then "paste" it will replace the old one. I've had mixed results, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt....

That's really weird. For sense based ROMs they should just go in /system/customize/resource/. If you open a flashable zip, you'll see it's basically nested in folders that mirror that, and all it's doing is copying it there. You're just doing the process manually. Do you happen to have the zip you used (or a link to it) so I can see where it put it?

Sorry I didnt post back earlier, I actually had to work at work today (lame I know) I got the piss on apple one to work using the root explorer method, I also got the "Fake Bios" one to work, but I remember trying to flash a "Droid" one with teh red eye etc.. and it didnt work for some reason, the screen just stayed black until it finally booted up. this was last week so I dont remeber exactly which ones they were or which ones worked, but I think I got like 3 to work and like 2 that didnt work for whatever reason. Bu I'll probly stick with the piss on apple one for a while, eventually I would like to make my own

They go in /system/customize/resource for Sense. If you flash one not meant for sense, it's probably not going to work. That's why a lot of the time, you're just given the zip file and told to put it where it belongs for your phone.

i would not recommend that you use rom manager. it tends to be very buggy and has been known to cause problems. so i would recommend that you go into recovery and wipe dalvik cache, cache, and data then flash your rom in roecovery.

You have a Motorola Milestone, correct? If so, we may be of little help to you. Be sure to go to your phone's subforum for additional support:
