So here is a kicker. I hope someone can help. so I have flashed CM7! I love all the options it has and all the Tweeks! Love the Tweeks! Lol. Anyway.... I don't use my phone all that much during the day and yet my battery life diminishes super fast! I just don't think the kernel is a very good one. to be honest I am not all that xperienced with flashing kernels. I was wondering if anybody out there new a better one for CM7 on an HTC evo? any help would be greatly appreciated :-P

Check out the roms and kernels page found in the root guide at the top of the forum. I'm on my phone or I'd link you. :(
Check out the tiamat kernels for AOSP roms. A lot of folks here use that kernel and have a lot of success with it.
Download the version you want to try out, place it on your sd card.
Boot to recovery and just wipe your cache partition and dalvik cache, then flash the kernel. Reboot and enjoy!

Any questions please let us know! :)

I would recommend trying Tiamat SBC. Below in my signature or linked here is a whole Wikipedia page that tells all about 80+% of the ROMs/kernels/etc. available for the HTC Evo 4G. In there should be some various kernels that you can try. I would highly recommend trying each of them as it does depend on phone (some Evos are different than others) as well as personal preference.

CM7 is an AOSP ROM so you must use an AOSP kernel to flash with it. I would recommend a SBC kernel too because SBC holds a longer charge. As one user here put it, it allows the phone to charge to a full 100% whereas traditional kernels allow the phone to charge to 100% but switch back and forth from 90-100% once fully charged. While rare, some people have complained that SBC has completely destroyed their battery or caused it to malfunction. I have never had any of these problems but I have a spare battery just in case anything does happen.

I'm on CM7 right now with the Tiamat SBC kernel and it's pretty good so far on battery life. But you may find that another kernel is more suitable for you.

Also be sure to check which version the kernel is made for. A few months ago, I used a kernel that was made for Android 2.2 but used it with a Android 2.3.3 ROM and I had some issues like YouTube videos not loading. Issues can vary and I wouldn't recommend trying a kernel that is not built for your ROM as it could pose some major problems for your phone.

BTW: To flash a kernel, most can be done in recovery by "adding zip file". If you use the ROM Manager app, you can also flash kernels there.

I would highly recommend also trying the app called "Kernel Manager LITE" which is also helpful but to not allow it to flash your kernel for you. Once downloaded from there, you will need to move it from the folder that it is located in to the root of your SD card to begin flashing through the recovery. This can be done through a file explorer like Astro and simply moving the file to the root of the SD card. The root of the SD card is the very first folder that all of your stuff is located in when accessing the card. Kernel Manager LITE is great because it finds what type of phone you have then searches pretty much all of the available kernels to your phone. Although you will need to read each in depth to know which is the kernel for your ROM/Android version/etc.

EDIT: Tonight I switched kernels and I have noticed one big change. On Tiamat, the screen would not appear after unlocking. It required that I touch the screen then it would show the lock screen. I switched over to SavagedZen tonight and now the screen immediately shows after unlocking. I hope to see the changes later tomorrow when I go to work/school/etc.

I would also recommend getting an app called "Battery Calibration" that helps change the battery life. Do exactly as it says and you should get a tiny bit extra out of your battery than you used to. Basically, it will have you let your phone die to 0% battery then power completely and fully to 100% and then open the app and click the button. This will overwrite a file that is essential to your battery's life and usage. It watches your battery usage and determines what will be the best way to regulate your battery. It won't give you hours more of battery life but it will improve battery life by a little which I'm sure you'd like to get as much as you possibly can out of your battery.

Update on my kernel change from Tiamat...it runs MUCH more smoothly than it did with Tiamat. I see a huge difference between when it used to have major malfunctions and now where it has next to none. Also the battery charge is great because it kept it's charge better for me. But again, I would recommend experimenting to see which you like most.

im using 410 sbc and my battery is lasting over 1 day and 2 hours at last check, I was down to 14% at that point. I have found so far that it takes many hours to go from 12% down to 2%

That was on typical use, couple days ago I was on a trip and had bluetooth, navigation, gps, txts and phone and the battery lasted 19 hours or so.

The phone goes into battery save mode around 10-15%.
