Root Help with custom splash screen!!

mattj3636

Newbie
Just recently rooted my Evo 4G and now im addicted to customizing and changing and flashing and everything, i love it, my new hobby haha.. im about to flash back to CM7 now that i learned how to customize a bit (currently running vaelpak, which is my favorite so far but never gave the others a shot)...

i have a custom boot animation and now i want to put in a custom splash screen... i read how (use bootloader and such)...

first off, i have the image in .rgb565 already and every single "how-to" says to put it in the tools folder in my SDK folder.... i have no idea where or what my SDK folder is. i put the picture into my main SD card folder and tried running bootloader and the fastboot but it keeps saying nothing is found and i cant get into the command screen because of this...

i rooted my phone on a Mac if that helps using unrEVOked3... if anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great..

also, on a sidenote... whats the best kernel to run with CM7, best battery life, minimal choppiness (i know every phone reacts differently but what are some that people are running and work great??)

im currently running: netarchy-toastmod-4.3.4-cfs-havs-more-nosbc

there is a much much easier way of doing this but it will take me a bit to find it. i posted it a few months ago

aright cool, if you could find it and post it i would appreciate it, and then ill be asking you specifics on that method since ill probly run into some bumps haha

I don't know how to set your own image but I always found. Zip splash screens posted on threads and renamed them pc36img.zip and flashed them in hboot....need someone to zip your image properly though. Ill do some more digging on setting your own image.

Oh well in that case just name it pc36img drop it on the root of your sd then go to hboot it will find it and ask to update say yes then bam custom splash. Rename the file after or hboot will find it every time.

You can't flash that type of zip via recovery.

Incidentally while looking every. Zip for splash screens have a simple. Txt and. Img in them you can probably make your own. If I were at home I would test this out ill do it later but you can still flash your splash like I told you.

Yeah you can just take someones zip... unzip it...replace said image. Zip with 7zip and put on SD card as pc36img.zip. and flash from hboot.

I have a program somewhere that does everything....reformats image and flashes it to phone in minutes

so i should unzip the file, and then rename the picture with a .zip?? im normally good at all this so sorry if i sound stupid haha

nvvvmmmmmmmmmm, i get it. i get it. trying it out in a minute...

now onto the kernel issue, whats a good kernel to run with aosp? cm7 to be exact

Mr ed was describing setting your own image. To use theirs don't unzip just name it and place it on the top level of your SD card not in any folder aka root. Name it pc36img.

You basically have 3 options on kernels for aosp no 4. Tiamat, Ziggy, savagedzen, savage. I use savage Zen 1.0 currently. There are hundreds of combos tho. Sorry I'm not at home or I would give you a link. There is a thread about kernels guide. I use SBC and havs more you'll need to do some reading on this. There is a link to roms and kernels in my sign tho.

Ok two questions did you name it pc36img.zip exactly? Careful if you used windows it sometimes hides extensions and you may have inadvertantly named it pc36img.zip.zip also if that's not the case don't extract but open your zip and tell me what's in it.

its named right, and im on a mac, so whenever i right click and hit open the file "evosplash1.rgb565" comes out, like im extracting it, idk how to see the contents of the actual zip, ill figure it out though

I don't even use my PC lol. I dl right to my phone and manipulate with root explorer and terminal emulator.do you have some sort of fileexplorer on the phone? I can't help with Mac stuff haha.

You searched...? Open up file expert and go to sdcard and pc36img should be on the top level. Not in a folder. Verify its not in amy folder and is a zip named pc36img if it is. Open it up ...what's in there?

i searched in file expert, found it in sdcard (just didnt feel like scrolling down), it is named correctly, opened file and all thats in there is evosplash1.rgb565

Ok that's not a flashable file its just a zipped image so that explanation that. Cai. n you do what Mr ed suggested to use your own image in someone else's splash.zip?
