To start if you're on GB...then throw z4 out the window...no chance of that working...i had a problem when i first went to .591...none of my root apps would work...try opening up Titanium Backup and clicking the "problems" button...turns out that i had a problem with busybox and it was screwing with my root apps...

i just tried that and busy box still is not working because i cannot get the phone rooted...it tried to upgrade busy box but that failed to...
what root apps do you use?

i just realized it was .595 stock so i could receive the ota download...and i can't remember where i got it now..

system version
4.5.595.mb810.Verizon.en.us

baseband version
BP_C_01.09.12P

Kernel version
2.6.32.9-g0bae333

build number
4.5.1_57_DX5-25

If you were on a rooted 588 or higher, you could just install the update to 596. I had no desire to install a leaked rom that wasn't rooted for reasons like this.

No fix except to SBF back to froyo (format data or you'll bootloop) and root that, install bootstrap and flash that to 596, then you'll be rooted.

if Gingerbreak isn't getting the job done...then you're about to learn how to SBF back to stock Froyo

Didn't work for me on .595, but it did work on .591 and below.

i have heard mixed reports...personally never tried it...and im getting the impression that it doesn't actually work, and that those that said it did were just assuming it did...

I went for the full monty, rooted, deodexed (full on from FroYo) there is a two-part zip if you upgrade from FroYo and it works really well and you have root from the start

so what is a good .596 rom? rooted GingerBlur 2.3.3 (.596) or the 596-Deodexed or is there a diff?

Deodexed basically means that you can apply themes, or little mods that are floating around the forums because the ROM is packaged differently...

in theory however an odexed ROM will technically be a little bit faster because all of its components are packaged in a more efficient manner...however odexed ROMS will not accept themes because the pieces of their OS are all over the place...

I was on 573 so had to go the froyo route. Wasn't too worried about deodexed version b/c I figured a debloated custom rom would be the next step from here and they're always deodexed. :D
