A friend connected his kindle to my prevail using my hotspot. I do not remember any problems with it. Not sure if he had the fire but it was the cheapest version without 3g

Really? Interesting. Maybe there is a way. So far my Fire does not recognize the signal at all. My computer recognizes it fine. I will keep looking for an answer.

:-) I was just curious if you would go into detail about what exactly that means. I'm new to the smartphone world. I'm guessing that having a 'rooted cell phone' is basically just being able to delete stuff you wouldn't normally be able to.

Lol, I just mean that now my phone is rooted. Sorry

"Root" Is the purpose of this thread. Once you root a phone you can do whatever you want to it. You can delete stuff the maker never wanted you to delete, you can add things that Boost and Samsung never wanted you to have. With the prevail you can "tether" it to a laptop (connect your phones signal to the computer and run the computer on the internet) You can add themes and make the apperance of your phone differant than it came. Most all our phones look nothing like a galaxy prevail on the screen, if you didnt see the outside body of the phone you would never know it was a prevail. Root also speeds up the phone and most "roms" that you can flash to the phone make it perform even faster, you gain battery life and dont need to charge the phone as often. Oh and the best part..... All the cool kids are doing it............

Hey, I'm no dev by any means. I'm not a great hacker either. I learn everything by doing it. But I just joined these forums and honestly there is so much junk going on I can't keep track of what happened when.

I did the one click root before I seen the CIQ mod and now I look thru my running services and don't see Anything labeled IQ agent... I was just curious if this one click root also included the CIQ remover

That's one thing I'm a little weary of myself. How much control do you actually have after you root one of these bad boys?

Does anyone know if you can root an Android tablet as well?

froyo has shabbymod, ctmod and a bunch of themes,
gingerbread has ctmod,

you'll have complete control. you can add, change and remove anything you like. so much so that you can disable the device if you remove the wrong thing. but as long as you use backups and common sense you won't have to worry about that.

it's like everything about the device belongs to you.. not just the bill.

our house has three android phones and two nook color e-readers. all rooted. everything has full functionality and then some.

Oh well, I'm buying a new one soon. But now i have downloaded but my phone never starts up, Just sits there vibrating. I've let it sit while i was in the shower (30 minutes) and came back to the same thing. I had to do a battery pull on it because it wouldn't boot. but now i have superuser, Am i supposed to have anything else on it or is it all?

that's the only thing that should be obviously added

run superuser and in preferences for it, check if the su binary is up to date.
Click update or update anyway if it's already up to date. If you get the popup asking for permission, pick yes and if everything passes after that, then you have root for sure

I enabled USB debugging, unmounted SD, and ran the program. The phone reboots, displays "SAMSUNG" and vibrates about every second, and the program seems to be stuck forever here:
Code:
           Root for the Samsung Prevail

                Exploit By Bliss

                 Shabbypenguin

did you unmount -and- remove the sdcard?

ok from what I've read this is a upgraded ver. of Shabby's(you rock man)one click root, now my question is will this ver. work with GB . I have rooted and unrooted many time use both Odin and one click running froyo 14. I used Odin to push stock GB on to my prevail, have been whating to reroot was just waiting for a GB ver.

This originally came out just before GB dropped. It was quickly found to work but seemed like it didn't the way it was. Shabby then made a good number of improvements and tweaks to make it a lot friendlier to n00bs.

I guess some people have ended up having their phone stuck on the boot animation and vibrating a lot (I did with the first version of this OCR). If that ever happens, just power cycle the phone and it should boot just fine. If that doesn't work, try a factory reset in recovery, that usually does it

I unmounted but did not remove the sd card. Should I?
Edit: I tried again with SD card removed, same result.

Because the SD-card can interfere with the root process, and the SD-card gets mounted during the boot process, and the phone gets rebooted during the root process, then yeah, you need to unmount and completely remove the card when rooting.

Try doing an "adb kill-server" then try running the script as root, either by switching to root with su, or by running the script with "sudo Linux-Mac.sh"

Running it with sudo worked, thanks!

Good stuff to know. Thanks a lot!
