Root Hi all... Uber-noob here

Hey everyone,

So, I FINALLY figured out how to root my Prevail, and I'm super-excited about it. The first thing I downloaded was Titanium Backup, and backed up everything before getting rid of some of that pesky bloatware (Poynt, Google Books, etc.). I then downloaded Barnacle, which works like a charm and Go Launcher, and am now happily running the ICS theme. This is my question: Where do I go from here? Everyone talks about getting CWM, but when I look it up in the Market, the first thing that pops up is ROM Manager, which I know is a big no-no. Then, I saw ROM Toolbox, which looks like integrates a bunch of the programs that I need. So, do I use that AND CWM? If so, what exact version of CWM should I use to avoid brickification? And, I really want to use A2SD or something like that, but which one do I use? I know I have lots of questions, but I am very VERY new at this, and really want to learn, but reading the forum is giving me a lot of conflicting information. Any help offered would be much appreciated.

Thanks! :D

haha brickification. okay, cwm is not available on the market, you need to use a program called "Odin" to flash it onto your phone - fyi this is what you want to use to flash other mods rather than the dangerous ROM manager. You want version "5".somethin (cyan colored text as opposed to yellow).

Please stop in almost every other thread advertising "your" ROM and pushing people to running it. You sound like a desperate used car salesman trying to push somebody into buying a back lot special that's dumping oil all over the parking lot.

People will download whatever they choose, and should not be subjected to somebody pushing something on them.

Okay, can I find that in the Market?

He's a ghetto thief. Nobody likes a thief. The devs, blood and hroark gritted their teeth accepting the apology. They are bigger men.

The only reason that he apologized in the first place was that I prodded him to. He is at least making an effort, but he threw something out there that was incomplete, and is basically having everybody else finish his work... I'm not a dev by no means, but before my p.c. took a dive I was actually working on a Cyanogen based ROM based off of Hroarks.

I've been thinking about try to build a CM9 based. But I fear that it will have too many issues that I will not know how to fix.

So, after I finished installing CWM (off of the link above), then I'll be ready to install ROMs? And, A2SD or Link to SD?

I tried it out several times and it booted up, but there were still alot of issues that had to be worked out. I was stupid for not making a backup, but I do know as soon as I get my p.c. back, I'll be back to work...

BusyBox simply allows your phone to perform additional scripts. Basically you let it run in the background and let it do it's thing.

can you elaborate more on this, did you build CM9, did it boot, what worked and what did not, thanks

I downloaded the ROM Toolbox (NOT Manager), and it seems to be working really well... backs up apps, moves to and from SD, etc. Kind of an all-in-one.
