Holiday Gingerbread anyone?

Well my phone is still unusable, 1 1/2 hours after I started the update. It just sits in the loading screen and won't do anything different after rebooting it and taking the battery out.

that stinks...out of curiosity, were you stock before the update?

Hmmmm....i really hope it works for you. Gb is pretty nice actually. Just a smoother experience. I wonder if vz will put the update out there on their website in case it hangs on you. Have you talked to tech support?

Dont have another phone so I can't call them, just going to the store in a couple minutes...

Finally got my phone straightened out. GB installed successfully!!

Zelda-

How is it?

Everything we could have asked for. :)

The phone runs like I wished it would, much less lag, and the initial boot up is so fast its easy to miss that red droid animation. Transitions between apps and going back to the home page redraw a million times faster, which was one of my biggest complaints. The camera, once focused, can take a photo and snap a 2nd one in about 1.5 seconds compared to a ridiculous wait before.

Everything is just much more fluid and i'm completely ok with keeping this phone for 2 years now, whereas before I was getting tired of it.

Haven't been outside to test the gps function.

ok guys, the GB2.3.6 OTA installed prefect, its a lot faster and smoother, I can`t believe the difference:D

Where is the DIS-like button that you got it and most of us don't???

haha. Thanks for the update. Hopefully mine will come soon. Its like waiting for Santa!

yeah I was really surprise to see myself, I figured I would be one of the last ones with my luck, but I was pleasantly surprised when I woke up phone to see the notification of a software update:D

1:00 pm on Wednesday here in Detroit. Nothing new yet on my Charge. My nephew wrote me that there's been some activity here, so I came to check.

I hope it fixes the Bluetooth. Haven't been able to use it in my car, and that's a safety issue, and a $$$ issue. Don't want a wreck, nor an expensive trafic ticket in Detroit or environs while holding the phone to my ear.

I gave up waiting on the OTA, so I went ahead and did the manual update with the ROM in that xda-developers post (the one that doesn't require root, just the final version).

Got it installed, and it's working great! As others have said, everything is much smoother - I don't see the lag in the UI I used to, when I go back to the home screen it loads immediately (I used to always have a problem even when using Go Launcher where it would sometimes take 5-10 seconds to "reload"). The web browser is much faster and smoother, apps launch quickly without delay.

No comments on battery life yet, but overall I'm already immensely satisfied by this update.

HOw do I download it if the OTA update doesn't turn up quickly. I getting tired of some of the dumb stuff that my phone does and VZ blames the OS and said this update will fix it. (like losing data signal for long periods of time then it magically comes back- in 3 and 4G areas)

2pm in San Diego and no OTA updates yet

I downloaded it from the xda-developers link:

GB OTA manual update.zip-leaked! - xda-developers

I was a bit hesistant but I figured that if there was something shady about it someone would have said something by now.

Easy install - just rename the file to update.zip, copy it to the root of your sd card, reboot into stock recovery (turn off phone, hold down volume up, home and power, release the power button when the samsung logo shows up, and then release the volume up and home buttons a couple of seconds later).

It took a while to do (there were a few times where the progress bar wasn't advancing that I was a little nervous) but overall went smoothly.

Probably doesn't hurt to wait for the OTA, but I'm happy to have done it, and really have with the 2.3 update now that I've got it.

Does the xda-developers version have all of the Verizon bloatware? If its as easy as you've said and there is no bloat I may just hold off on the OTA do that one this weekend.

I have for sure noticed that the battery doesn`t last aslong on GB compared to FY

Give it a few days since you can't "wipe battery stats" with other mods out there.

Need to run it down and give it a few days.

Using leaks, GB is MUCH BETTER than FY, but initial battery reporting by the OS sucks. First time, I fast drained using a few battery hog apps. I got down to 6%.

Rebooted. Let it sit for probably 15 mins before getting into it and I had 16% battery life. LOL

I'd assume the battery stats file is not wiped on the OTA, so give it some time slappy! :D:D

Oh, and it just came out today... so no 24 hour battery data for you!

Doing this now, tired of waiting on VZW to OTA it to my phone! Pray for me. lol

Its been going about 10 mins now and appears 80% done on the progress bar. (fingers crossed).
