Root How do I root my phone?

bfair327

Newbie
I have never rooted my phone before and I'm beginning to become bored with it. I'm running 2.3.5 (obviously), my baseband is 2.15.00.12.19, and my build/software number is 5.07.651.1

I am a complete noob at the moment and any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

This I believe is the most recent root guide for 2.3.5

Make sure you read again and again so you understand the steps needed to root.

Also at very beginning of guide where it mentions several different guides for hboot versions. If your unaware how to find your hboot version. Completely power your phone down, hold volume down button along with power button until your boot loader comes up, at top of screen it should read something like "h boot 2.1x".

Good luck :)

yep use the guide that dragonslayer mentioned and you should be rooted in no time.

also please feel free to ask questions if you have them.

Just now getting back to this thread. Currently trying to unlock my bootloader. I downloaded sdk manager and I installed sdk platform and sdk tools, but I'm having trouble finding adb.exe and fastboot.exe. I see fastboot and adb, but they are not .exe and if I'm mistaken, they aren't the same. Please feel free to correct me.

Also, it told me I needed to download htc sync, but whenever I go here HTC Support Center I can't find the download. Again, any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Ok is backup necessary? All my contacts have been saved as "google" and I have a habit of deleting my texts frequently anyway. Went through and deleted them all before I started. I don't care too much about the apps. Only use a couple such as YouTube and some social networking apps that I can just download again anyway.

A nandroid backup? yes, I would recommend it. In case anything goes wonky, you can restore that backup, which is like a snapshot of your phone's current setup:)

Ahh, sorry. Was confused. I'm getting a little ahead of myself lol. Ok, so this is just going to backup my current phone as of right now?

Exactly as Mike said, if anything was to go wrong during the root process, such as a soft brick or anything. Easily restore the back up as if nothing even happened.

Personally, I have not used Android Flasher so I can't help ya there...however, I do know that the adb method is easy , then the PC36IMG method I have done myself a couple times...try the adb method if the Android Flasher is giving you issues:)

Edit: just saw your reply...:)

Sorry. Currently here 6.go to the recovery slot and select browse and then navigate to the amon ra .img file
7.select it and then select recovery
8.then1 at the very bottom select flash

I hit flash and it says at the top "Please wait while your device is being flashed" and underneath it, it says "error: device not found"
