Root How do you stop the update notifications??

I know you can rename otacerts.zip to cancel the notification, but I have heard that makes the phone think the update is corrupt and it continuously tries to download it. I would like to have Velocity 0.2 on my phone but I cannot stand the constant nagging to update. I have tried flashing VZB and going back and the notifications still appear.
Has anyone managed to stop the notifications?
Thanks

Yes it will stop the notifications.

If you see an Android symbol with a ! inside of a triangle after rebooting, it means it stopped the update. If it stays at that screen, press the End Call button once and click Reboot System Now, and voila, it won't bug you about updates anymore.

That's exactly what death2all110 had me do.

This is true for any custom recovery? drellisdee, clockwork, whatever?

It's true on ClockworkMod, at least for me, and drellisdee has broadly stated no custom recovery could install LG roms without embedding LG's keys (which I got the impression aren't public).

easyist way is to stop the notifications is to upgrade... (mine works well with vzb) if you have update errors flash drellisdee stock recovery using his instructions (uses android sdk) then apply the ota updates and if you want, flash the rom of your choice.

Any root explorer should work, unsure if thinkfree can do it. One I like is "OI file manager" from the market.

Yeah I got Astro up and running but I need to know where the systemupdate.apk file is so I can change the name of it. Thanks for the reply!

/system/app/ is where the system apps are (surprising eh?)

So, you're looking for /system/app/SystemUpdater.apk

Sorry for the Zombie thread, but it seemed pertinent. This file doesn't seem to be at the specified location. I'm running froyo, stock, rooted. Can anyone give me a hand?

Trying to cease the update reminders until I learn if the newest update is root-safe.

You can root the update, i think dautley posted saying he did but im not exactly sure WHO it was. Just that it was. If you are going to root AND install velocity dont bother updating because you have nothing to gain. But if youre not going to install a custom rom then take the update and you can find a post here in one of the threads about the update about how they rooted it

I didnt care enough to read all these posts so forgive me if this has been said:

If you have a custom recovery, try to install the ota, it will fail. you will stop being nagged

Worked for me. Good god it was pestering me every five minutes. When it restarted it went straight to recovery and said it failed I hit reboot and everything is normal.

I had it try to install OTA it failed but ever since it rebooted it seems as if my phone's resolution has changed or something. Everything appears farther away and very tiny?! I have rebooted several times and it won't go away.

I'm running Velocity 1.0 and clicked on the update to install so it would fail and it would stop notifying me. That worked until a few minutes ago. It came back. Same notification. I clicked update, it download, told me it was gonna reboot and never rebooted...again. I found that somewhat strange that it would come back. Anyone else have this happen?

Did you change the lcd density in the velocity script?
