how hot is too hot for my dx?

Most products don't suggest leaving them in prolonged sunlight. So yes, heat can hurt it, so can cold. It's plastic and metal, both of those expand and contract in heat. I wouldn't suggest exposing it to that kind of heat.

do not know about the consequences of such heat, but when my unit has gotten toasty to the touch i would take my silicone case off and remove the battery cover and close any running apps. until it cooled down, only had to do that a couple times

mine would get the hottest when plugged into the car dock, running nav, and listening to music all at the same time.

try to at least figure out what is making it get so hot if it is not just sitting in the sun

that's like 48 deg C and yeah that's a bit hot. I don't remember mine getting over 44 ever. stick it in the fridge! lol

My DX also used to get scorching hot while tethered directly to my computer via PDAnet. If you want you phone to run cooler and your computer faster I suggest rooting and getting Wireless Tether for Root Users.

Ever since I switched over my phone doesn't get hot at all, and my computer flies compared to when I was using PDAnet. Give it a try!

My Droid X got carried around all last summer in 120 degree Arizona heat. I suspect my DX was also just a wee bit hot... I know I sure was!

Personally I don't think high temps are a problem for short periods of time...

If you can roast marshmallows on it, its too hot
If your background picture is of Sophie Howard, its perfect

I really hope that was a joke!

Yeah that is hot. I try not to let mine get above 100 degrees but it happens. I stop using the phone for a few minutes and let it cool naturally.

Biggest problem with the Xbox 360 is when the unit got hot the motherboard would "flex" causing the solder to form cracks which would lead to a failure. You could almost induce the same type failure when it gets that hot. You could drop the phone or whatever and cause problems. That is worse case scenario though.

pretty sure these phones shut down when they get too hot. i think i read somewhere that the original droid shut down temp was 50 celcius....it is by no means good for the phone, but just stop doing whatever you are doing, put the phone to sleep for a bit and you should be golden.

FWIW, mine only gets over 110 when i am using NAV and streaming pandora over 3g.

Try playing homerun battle 3d. Gets plenty hot playing it. Thinking of running that and using the phone as a hand warmer.. lol.

How do you check the phone temp again?

Open and run the following for thermal global nuclear shutdown...

Slacker > SkyFire > Regular Browser > Tether > GPS > Angry Birds...

lol I have to say.. my phone has gotten well over 120.. lol
