disable Verizon GPS and this should help that, and

Samsung FasCiNaTe #1 AnDrOiD phone eVa!!!111111111111111

I had a Samsung Omnia and it took forever to lock on to GPS (and sometimes wouldn't) .... seems I made the right decision to stick to getting the X. The GPS thing must be a Samsung issue.

motorola locked down to hell the ROOT of the droid X, Samsung leaves their files wide open, for developers/Root/ROM's I think Samsung is the clear winner.

That doesn't mean people aren't having issues with their GPS on the samsung, though.

If you are having repeated issues, I would exchange it right away, because many of us have a GPS that works fine. Mine is dead on, and I've read lots of testimonials of others' that are dead on as well.

But I have seen enough complaints that I definitely feel it's a real issue. Go in and get those phones replaced. Same thing about the echo. If it's a big, ugly, super-noticeable issue that makes it hard or uncomfortable to use the phone, I would exchange it for sure. Have a tech test it and hear it too. I had a crackly speaker on my first Eris within days of purchasing it. I went in and let the tech place a call on it. He said he could hear it plain as day and he replaced it on the spot.

These phones are expensive!!! Don't be satisfied until you get one that WORKS!!!

Sadly, I had to relinquish mine today. Well, took it to the UPS store to be shipped back to Amazon yesterday. I had the most bizarre problem... I was using the phone, then locked the display, and then the screen would wake, only it would display a pure black image. I took the battery out a couple of times and restarted it a few times to no avail. The boot animation would cycle and the Verizon animation would start, and then nothing. I did a hard reset by pressing the power and volume keys, wiped the cache, and when I was prompted to enter my gmail information, I began seeing a force close. Once I finally got the phone to get past the registration portion, I would unlock the screen and the Android system itself could not boot. I paid $529 for mine and I'm definitely not a hacker, so I just decided it's best if I send it back. I wasn't about to make the issue worse or hold off until my return period lapsed.

So here I am... with a Blackberry Tour... that works.

I'll miss ya, Sammy. Too bad Android didn't want to play nice in the sandbox. It's funny because the error was related to TouchWiz, which would not boot properly.

Are u gonna try another Fascinate or another Android phone? That could have just been a bad phone.

If you get one phone and have problems, send it back and get another. If you have problems with the second device, it was junk from the beginning. Why people waste so much time and effort replacing phones is a mystery to me. Especially samsung. Not really known for high quality devices.

My sister and I are both rolling with our original Fascinates.

1. No GPS issues
2. No weird echo issues
3. Great battery life
4. Great signal and call quality

After rooting, de-bloating, de-binging and launcher pro-ing:

1. No GPS issues
2. No weird echo issues
3. Even better battery life (less bloat + autokiller set to "optimum"
4. Still same great signal and call quality
5. Wireless tethering
6. Even more customizable and efficient launcher setup

In short, the most awesomest, perfectest, badassiest phones we've EVER had. Don't get me wrong, the Droid X is equally awesome, for a few different reasons. Mr. X Factor already knows them, and why I ultimately went with the Fascinate instead, as I've posted on multiple threads ...

Spoken like a true Eris fanboy :p

I'll more then likely be keeping my Fascinate unless Best Buy has a killer phone on one of the next three Friday's of October. The only beef I have w/ the phone is that it never gets over two bars of signal, whether inside, outside, in town, or in the middle of nowhere lol. I have no problems with call quality or anything like that though. But it does say that about half of my battery life is due to not having a signal. ( In my phone it says it's out of signal about 80% of the time, which seems absurd to me... ) Other then that, I'll wait for the Froyo update then I'll root the phone to awesomeness. :)

Have you rooted now? Rooting, de-bloating, and installing autokiller seemed to help my Fascinate with speed, stability, and battery life, in a noticeable way. Also, enable the power saving features in your display/brightness settings.

When I began the return process, Amazon did not give me the option to get a replacement, which blew, but I can at least get my money back. The radio button to get a replacement was grayed out and the option to return said I can pay my own postage and send it back, or have them deduct from my refund if I use theirs, which is kind of lame because I had free shipping.

So who knows... There's a new Android phone announced or released weekly, so at this point, it seems like a waste to keep chasing the "perfect" phone and overspending when your device is obsoleted after your 30-day return period.

I haven't rooted yet. I just don't want to have to root a second time when Froyo finally comes out. :p Also, what other power saving features does the Fascinate have minus the Power Saving Mode to adjust the screen brightness?

The power saving mode is in those settings, but have that turned on and auto bright (or you could do what some do and just turn it all the way down. I use auto because I frequently need to see it in sunlight.)

Rooting and putting on AutoKiller (set to "optimum") provided a noticeable boost in battery on both my Droid X and my Fascinate. I realize that the rooting didn't save the battery, but you can't run AutoKiller without rooting, and it's the only task killer I've used that doesn't actually have a detriment to my battery life.

If you buy a fascinate from ebay and it ends up having issues, can you exchange it within the first year for the one year warranty?

No if you buy it from ebay you dont get a one year warranty thats only if you buy it through verizon or another site(bestbuy, wirefly, etc)

Man that sucks, now I don't know if I will buy one from ebay. What if something eventually goes wrong, like a bad USB port or something stupid like that. Kind of scary!

Thanks.
