Root How soon til root?

-- Download the attached zip and rename it to update or update.zip if you are on a Mac.

GREAT POST! Thanks for sharing this!

One quick question, though, I couldn't actually find the .zip file attached. I assume it's not the same one that's on XDA for the Captivate/Vibrant/International Galaxy S, since that one doesn't contain the device ID for the Fascinate.

I'd sure be grateful if you could post a link to the file!

Thanks!

1.) i have no clue how to access the "internal SD card" on the fascinate. i can only access the removable media. 2.) when trying to install the update.zip, i get this message "e:signature verification failed"

jedii, did you actually root a fascinate, or did you root a captivate/vibrant? i am wondering if i am missing something, or if the exploit has been closed off on the fascinate

I am fully aware of the difference in the Captivate, Epic, Vibrant, and Fascinate.

So yes, my Fascinate is rooted. (No custom rom, just rooted).

So what is your question? By exploit, do you mean "locked bootloader"? Because Samsung does not lock their bootloaders (such as the Droid X).

Not really sure where your question is going my friend....

Can you post a link to the update file. Also can you explain how to get the phone into the boot screen. I know it was press power and hold down volume button on DInc. Thanks.

Jedii,

Does rooting to anything about the Bing situation. Like allowing you to have a google widget or change the hard search key?

Thanks

Not directly no. It gives you superuser permissions, which will allow you to remove scripts.

There is no bootloader lock, so I am certain that ROMs will find there way to our devices in the near future. Good thing about custom ROMS, they will surely have google search as the default instead of Bing.

Jedii could you go over the steps to rooting the Fascinate? Currently my computer refuses to acknowledge my phone or even its storage

Not sure what errors you are getting.

I have no real advice for you here. I just posted earlier in the thread the way i rooted mine (which was a method given to me, i did not discover this method).

I wish i could provide you a way to "soft root" your device.

Here's my recommendation for you. Visit this site and stay current on the Fascinate Development thread. You should see a "soft root" very soon. :)

I made that file, and it doesn't work, until there's an alternate recovery installed. The thread that it's in, though, DOES contain a SUCCESSFUL PERSISTENT ROOTING procedure! It's definitely done!

Here's the thread:

Good stuff man. thanks for the backup. Im at work and its really hard for me to try and explain and link people to this stuff. Appreciate the post.

10 points to the person who figures out a way to put this is the market the way RyanZA's oneclick lagfix is there... I'd love you forever:D

Just wanted to check in with you guys. After digging for hours upon hours and installing/uninstalling various samsung drivers, I finally got my phone recognized by my computer and after even more hours, got it rooted. Then shortly after that someone came up with the definitive guide to rooting it with included links for file and driver downloads, which would have saved me so much time but whatever!
It's here: Rooted - xda-developers

Cheers

That's an easy one - Next time wait until the phone's been out for a week. :D

I'm actually really impressed with the community that four days after release we've got root, lag-fixes, de-Bingification, and bloatware removal. When the first Droid came out, it was a month before the first cryptic, nerve-wracking rooting procedures were developed.

If you want to get in on day one (or two, or three, or four), it'll be a little more work than it will later.

Do we have "de-bingification" on the touch sensitive external buttons yet, or just on the internal links on the screen?

Yeah, I just watched that video, and it looks like all the buttons can be fixed to go to Google. That's such a relief! And I am sure I'll root this phone. Maybe not on day one, but this week probably.
Agreed. My concern kinda like the DX is if VZW comes out and says those who pre-apply Froyo have no upgrade pathway officially. Admittedly there is no Froyo for us yet with the SF. But as we said in other threads we're kinda forging into new territory. I did get mine rooted and it wasnt that bad. But I still feel a tad nervous waiting for certain screens to pop up and what not.
Its not different than over at [H] when you test out a new OC and you wait for the sucker to POST will she or wont she.
Ideally we wouldnt have to do all this rooting et al but at least we can, praise be Android
