[How-To] Force the Official Android 2.2 Froyo Update for the Motrola Droid (FRG01B | Update 1 of 2)

would appreciate if anyone can tell if OTA update (for Adobe Flash Player 10.1 and multiple security improvements for your Droid by Motorola) after I installed leaked 2.2 will disable USB tethering?

HELP! After I successfully loaded the .zip to my root via computer, I ran the install and it claimed success. I selected the "Reboot phone now" option and my phone is stuck on the Motorola symbol.

I've waited over 30 min, tried a battery pull, waited another 10 minutes, battery pull and removal of SD, and even tried to reach the Boot menu again (pressing 'x').

I can't force shutdown my phone using the power button. In order to kill it , I have to pull the battery. I can't reach the boot menu to restore my phone.

Any ideas???

People have claimed it takes "a little while" or a "longer time" to reboot, but this has me very concerned...

HELP!

No idea what happened but your best course of action would be to preform a factory reset. (Note you will lose your data doing this) Boot back into there is an option for it there

No can do. I can't get the boot menu to come back. Holding 'x' and turining on the phone (the same way I did it before to do the install, so I know I'm doing it right...) is no longer working. It's stuck on the motorola symbol and freezes there.

Well, I got it fixed but I had to take it to the Verizon Store. Luckily there is one walking distance from my office so I could go on lunch.

I guess they've had several Droid phones not take the OTA Froyo. They flashed the phone and gave me FRG22D for free. It just took 45 min - 1 hr. All my Apps and data on the SD are still there. Just had to reset my icons and sync'd accounts.

Thanks for your help though!

And Flash downloaded from the market works great!

I did the forced upgrade on my phone last week and had no trouble. I was going to do my wife's phone tonight until she got a OTA upgrade alert so I did her phone with Verizon's update. The version information is identical on both phones.

Missing 2 location 4 and 6 where can i find the 2 down loads. I enjoy how you explain how to can wait to down load. thanks for all good work

You only need to download one copy of the update file. The instructions list multiple locations from which to choose for the download. When the update first appeared several of the sites were slammed with traffic as we rushed to update. Get one copy of the update.zip and go for it.

Got my update (FRG22) OTA around 12:15am today, I'm in Southern California.

Never felt so good to see that message pop up.

Correction , its FRG22D

i am trying to do the update right on my phone and everything is done right up untill i try to put my phone into recovery mode. i turn it off, wait.... hold "x" then turn it on but no exclamation mark comes up it just restarts as usual. help !

it doesnt asked me to mount my phone, not sure what to do

If you are doing the OTA (over the air) update, responding to an update notice in the alert bar, you do not need to mount the phone. If you manually force the update then you must mount the phone and copy the update to the SD card. With OTA it comes in over the phone band.

I can not access the recovery mode. I power down my droid then push and hold X turn it on but it goes to the white M then just keeps rebooting while i am holding down x and wont go.

Hey i need some help here. I have tried all files from your locations. I did exactly what was told in the instruction. But it always failed to verify the update files..

I am currently running on stock 2.1

I have Backflip ATT and i rooted it... and i use sdk and change the bootanimation but it says failure older sdk.... what to do?

I'm pretty new at this, but I think, if you aren't holding the X and the power button at the same time on startup you skip the recovery mode.

Good luck.

Hello guys, I have been trying to update my phone but have not succeded.

I just got a brand new Motorola Droid 4 days ago. So no modifications have been made to the device.

I have tried to do it thru my PC, placing the update.zip file on the root of the SD, and I have also used the guide here to do it directly thru the phone. No matter how I do it I always end up with the same message:

-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

I have tried downloading the file from different servers. And I'm not naming the file "update.zip.zip"

Any ideas guy???

Thx

:D

I have tried and tried...downloaded the file from different locations in case of a corrupt update file, and every single time I get the failed to verify whole-file signature, signature verification failed, and it aborts. I don't want to give up on this but it is driving me crazy!

I would recommend trying to download from location 3 since that's that only one that's in a folder called "FRG01B". I think the last time I started from scratch that was the one that worked for me.

This will only work if you are coming from stock 2.1.

If you are coming from 2.0.1, you must first update to 2.1, then this update, then FRG22D. It will only work in that order.

I think I already know the answer to this question but my optimism has got the better of me. Will this work on the Motorola Milestone? BTW, love your tag line, Trident.

Nope! If you try it, you will have a world of pain trying to fix your phone.
