Root How To Get Updated

And what is ASOP stand for?

Android open source project. To me the real beauty of android. The source code is released to the public. There are sense roms which is what HTC made basically they took the source and made a rom and dropped their sense UI on top of it. and we have aosp which is where developers take the source code and build their own custom roms that arent based on the htc sense rom but the actual source code itself.

Sense widgets are designed to work in the sense UI and will not work without that overlay so they will never work on an aosp rom.

If the widgets you speak of are third party then yes they will work on your aosp rom, if they are htc sense widgets then they will not work. News is probably sense though im sure the market has comparable widgets third party. WOTD sounds like dictionary.com and is probably 3rd party, either way there is a 3rd party app for that too...most sense widgets can be replaced with a similar 3rd party application.

Alright guys, so everything is backed up and I'm ready to install a new rom and kernel. I dont know what to choose though.
So just throw some names out for me. I was looking at the long list but there are just so many... so many.
I want one that has good battery life, so what's a good one?

Alright thanks, its a tough decision, both of those look pretty cool.
Im going to have to go with the MikFroyo. Now, does this ROM come with a kernel? If not, then what kernel should I get?

Im pretty confused over this whole Radios and Roms thing. Does the ROM not come with updates to your radios and stuff?

mikforoyo uses the current radio baseband 2.15. to check just go into settings/about phone/software.

all customr roms come with a stock kernel. to maximize battery life i would recommend a custom kernel. netarchy toastmod kernels have always played nice for me on mikfroyo's roms. you can get them in ref#2 of my sig. also ref#3 has some terminology on kernels that may help to pick out a kernel for you. just remember though kernels are sometimes picky. one kernel may work for me but it might not work for you. they react differently to different phones. i did rather well with the less havs no sbc netarchy toastmod kernels.

edit:there is no need to format your sd card when flashing a rom. just make sure that before you flash a rom to make a nandroid backup. also before flashing a rom don't forget to wipe data, dalvik cache and cache.

OH! I forgot to wipe cache! I wiped the dalvik cache but not regular? The ROM is already installed, can I just go wipe it really quick right now?

Well Im a little disappointed in 4.6
You see, I saw this video review of 4.4, and strait out of the box, it was really nice looking with a custom unlock animation and a number-battery-percent in the corner.

However, I dont know what the develeper was thinking with 4.6, but it seems stripped down of everything (But for some reason he left the wonderful sprint bloat).
Anyway the only custom part of the ROM is the background. So I guess its okay, I just wanted the cool looking themes is all.

Also, whats a rosie?

There were more themes available before 4.6 went odex. His roms have always been that way. The older ones just had more themes available to download and flash. Have you looked at the mik mik for his themes? The video you saw was just likely a highly themed one. The rosie it's the 3 button quick launcher at the bottom, called the dock on other launchers...

Also you can freeze/remove bloatware on your own...

Careful, we've been on 2.15 based radios since the first froyo update :). The current radio is 2.15.00.11.19. Also, just to make it clear, if you don't have the radio version that a ROM is meant for, you need to flash it separately. If you already have it, don't do it again (no harm in it; just a waste of time). There are a couple ROMs such as Sprint Lovers that *do* include radios, but note that, that ROM is flashed from hboot to do so.

Also, not all custom ROMs come with the stock kernel. All ROMs come with *a* kernel. It's up to the developer of the ROM which kernel to include. Granted, most of them use the stock kernel, but not always.

He did that on purpose so that you can flash whatever theme you want on top of it. If you look through thread, I believe he has several theme options for you.

EDIT:Matt beat me to it :). And yeah, forgot to mention bloatware. It's easy enough to freeze/remove yourself. Let us know if you need specifics.

Lol well more useful to akaza than the rest of us, I don't type anything I can't retype again in 30 seconds, even from swype...:)
Haha yeah, on the side of the main page with the list of threads there is the list of sub-forums or whatever you're subscribed to((EDIT: Favorite Forums))...well they should put right above that the list of posts by akazabam. They could compile it into a pdf of android knowledge. The Book of Akazabam.... hmm.

Speaking of swype I'm just typing this to test out the new swype type keyboard from the double shot... kinda dig it!

You were already beaten to that idea on the thread a couple threads down called ready to root. They suggested the bible akazabam

How does that version handle mis-typed words. Last time I was using swipe it would add every spelling mistake to the user dictionary and it just became too painful to have to type and retype.

Though, now I'm using the GB keyboard, and that isn't doing too much for auto correction either... hmm... I'm really debating going back to myn's... maybe I'll try the new version.

It's not swype it's called flex t9 and its from the double shot. I don't particularly like the look but it's much more accurate, faster, easier to use and its learns better... i'm gonna have to keep it

Cool, I'll give it a go. It's getting late, I had interreperated that previous comment as being a swype version from some other phone... err..

Yeah swype was starting to annoy me because if it guessed the new word and I wanted the original it brought up the options menu every time...grrr
