Root How to install Cyanogenmod 10 on Skyrocket?

BillCosby

Newbie
Is there any step-by-step guide on how to install Cyanogenmod 10 onto the Skyrocket? A stable version was just released. I'm not rooted.

Go into recovery mode and do a backup of your phone first thing, just to be safe.

After that, here's a really easy tutorial to follow to get your phone rooted. How To Root AT&T Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-i727 On Leaked Android 4.0.3 ICS ROM [Tutorial] | Redmond Pie

After you get that done, download ROM Manager from the Play Store, and flash ClockworkMod touch. The install is located at the bottom of the ROM Manager app. You have to have that most recent version of CWM touch installed in order for the CyanogenMOD 10 ROM to install correctly.

After that, go to the Download ROM section of ROM Manager, and scroll the the Cyanogen section and install the CyanogenMOD 10 stable version thru there.

Thanks man! I've asked on other sites but people kept telling me to read and do it on my own.

Hey man thanks for helping me out! I asked on other sites but was just told to read and do it on my own. Will installing CM10 wipe everything?

No problem! I've found that the majority of the people on these sites kinda look down on folks for not knowing how to do stuff. I guess they've forgotten about when they didn't know how to do something.

I recommend doing a back up of your contacts, SMS, MMS, pictures, and any of that stuff that you don't want to lose. But when I installed CM10 and GApps 4.1, after booting up, and logging onto my wireless router, the Play Store automatically updated itself. And when I opened the Play Store up and went to My Apps section, it had over 100 updates to install!!!! Hahaha. Apparently after wiping your apps, it still sees that those were on your phone, and installs them again. Needless to say, it took forever. Anyway, even if it doesn't do that for you, any app that you have ever downloaded thru the Play Store, on your gmail account, is displayed in you My Apps section of the Play Store. Not sure if you knew that or not.

Yeah it seems that way! Can I just use Kies to back up my stuff? I tried going into recovery mode like you said but there is no option to create a backup. Man I always just ignore the app updates. Last time I tried to update 60+ apps it took so long and sometimes disconnected.

So if I follow your instructions I can do it straight from the phone? From what I read you usually have to connect to a computer.

The back up that I'm referring to is an actual back up of your phones current OS, just in case things go array and you need to revert back to stock. I can't remember what the stock recovery options look like, but there should be a "backup and restore" option of some kind in there. What are the options that you have when you go into recovery mode?

davidlb512, wouldn't BillCosby just use ROM Manager for backing up his data on the internal SD, and to back up his external SD by copying it into his PC's desktop? At least, that's how I did it prior to installing CM10. :)

Edit: I've seen him post this same question at another forum, and did give him some advice there too!

@jsarino, ROM Manager backs up the current ROM only, if I'm not mistaken. I haven't used it, as I just go into recovery and do a ROM backup. It's pretty simple. I wasn't aware of ROM Manager backing up data(contacts, pics, SMS, MMS, APN's, playlists).

And as far as "backing up" the external SD card, just take it out before you wipe your data, and caches, and install the ROM. Then put it back in after you're done. That's a pretty easy way to not have to worry about losing what's on it. Haha.
