Easy Icarus Installation Procedure

Follow These Written Instructions Before Following the Video Instructions​

ATTENTION: Your Phone Needs To Be Rooted!!To Root Your Phone, Look Here: http://androidforums.com/ascend-all...instructions-huawei-ascend-3.html#post2221267. FYI- The installation of this ROM will interfere with the upcoming official Android 2.2 Update, but you can always flash back to the original ROM.​


This method works for both Cricket AND Metro. Follow the instructions to the letter. Make sure that you know where you left off. Any bad step can give you problems, but none which can not be solved


1) You will need a version of Clockwork Mod different from the one that comes with ROM Manager.If you have previously installed Clockwork Recovery using ROM Manager, go to ROM Manager, press Menu key, Clear Download Cache, then go to Settings(inside ROM Manager, not phone settings), and check the box that says Erase Recovery. Exit ROM Manager( REMINDER: This step is only if you have previously flashed Clockwork Recovery for the Ascend using ROM Manager. Disregard this step and go to the next step if you have not flashed Clockwork Recovery using ROM Manager

To Be Safe, Format SD Card. You Can Copy Your SD Card Content To Your Computer If You Want Before The Format. Format will erase all SD Card data
FORMAT THE SD CARD:- Press Menu key while in the phone's homescreen and go into SD card & Phone Storage. Unmount SD Card, then Format SD Card
2)Using a computer, Download this file: CWM Recovery.zip.



3) Connect the phone to the computer via USB and make sure the drivers are installed. Turn the phone off and wait until the battery screen comes out after the Huawei logo then press and hold Volume DOWN, End Key, and Power Button You should see the Huawei logo. Leave the phone like that and move on to the computer.

4) Open the CWM Recovery folder that you downloaded. Find and Run the fastboot- file according to your OS. Extract all if necessary. One you run it, you should get a black window that disappears immediately. Phone may still be at the Huawei screen. Then Run the install-recovery- file according to your OS.(If there is any command prompt problems or the pc says waiting for device,go into control panel/sys/device manager and find android 1.0 right click and update driver.)

5)Once it is done, unplug USB cable and take out the battery for 10 seconds and try to get into recovery by turning phone off and pressing and holding Volume Up, Call key, and Power until the black Clockwork screen comes out. Keep those buttons pressed until the clockwork mod screen comes out..Check to see if Clockwork is at version 2.xxx. If it is showing version 3.xxxx, select reboot system now and PM me about it. You can not move further. However, if it is showing version 2.xxx, move on to the next step.


If anyone is wondering why they need to do this procedure, it is because the Clockwork Mod that can be flashed using ROM Manager can not be used for installing Icarus.


STOP!!! Before proceeding, do a backup of your current ROM in case something bad happens. To do the backup:

6) Select backup and restore. Select Backup and do a backup. This is going to take about 5 minutes. After that, go all the way back and select reboot system now, connect the phone to the computer, press Mount on the notification that pops out in the phone, view your files on your sd card, find the clockworkmod folder and copy that file to your computer. Keep the phone mounted and connected to computer and proceed.

FINALLY, THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR ICARIUS:


7) Do not unzip the Icarus folder.Place the correct version of the Icarus folder for your carrier that you downloaded in the MAIN folder of your SDcard. After that, safely unplug the USB cable. You are finished with the computer.

8) Now turn off the phone and press and hold Volume UP, Call key, and Power. You need to hold these until a black screen with green letters come out.

9) Move on to the Video and Start When the Phone is in the Same Screen as You

Features of Icarus Mod​

- All crapware removed. Took off Huawei widgets.
- Fully Deodexed. This makes for a faster ROM, faster boot-up, faster everything.
- Apps2sd
- Zipaligned *.apks. This helps in optimizing RAM usage. When first installed, Icarus is fully zipaligned. However, you must configure DarkTremor's apps2sd to do this automatically every boot. (Instructions will be provided by isaac)
- Rooted by default.
- Busybox and run-parts are installed by default.
- Bash (awesome for ADB).
- Memory tweaks for better task killing managment.
- Awesome Minimal_Green theme similar to Gingerbread.

Another great thing about this ROM is that it has much more black, like in the dialer, settings and notification bar. This will further help in conserving battery life.

Right now, there are reports that multi-touch is not included in this ROM

EVERYONE, I have just tested these instructions and they worked flawlessly without any errors. DO NOT BE SCARED TO TRY IT OUT. IT WORKS.
 
TROUBLESHOOTING & FAQS​

MMS ( Picture Messaging) Not Working​

1) Download Root Explorer from the Market and install it on your phone.

2) Download the mms.apk file: http://www.speedyshare.com/files/26800406/Mms.apk

3) Connect your phone to the computer and put the mms.apk file on the MAIN root of your SD Card.

4) Disconnect from the computer and open up Root Explorer on your phone.

5) Scroll down to where you see sdcard and tap it.

6) Long press on "mms.apk"

7) Tap on "Move"

8) Press the back button and scroll down and tap "system"

9) Tap "app"

10) Look at the top where it says "Mount R/W" and tap it. It should now say "Mount R/O".

11) Tap "Paste" and let the new mms.apk erase and replace the old one.

12) Tap on "Mount R/O" so it will say "Mount R/W"

13) Exit Root Explorer and restart your phone. You are finished.

Restoring The Phone Back To Pre-Icarus​

1) If you have not gotten to the partitioning part, turn off your phone. Then press and hold Volume UP, Send key, and Power button. Now when you get to the black screen, select Mounts and Backup, then select Restore, then find the clockworkmod file.

Computer Not Recognizing Phone During Installation​

Turn off the phone and boot into ClockworkMod by pressing and holding Volume UP, Call Key, and Power Button. Then select Mounts and Storage and select mount USB storage. If that doesn't work, try other mounts.

Phone Is Stuck For Over 15 Minutes In a Never-ending Bootloop​

Turn off the phone and boot into ClockworkMod by pressing and holding Volume UP, Call Key, and Power Button. Then select Mounts and Storage and select format boot. If unsuccessful, go back to the Clockwork main menu and click on Advanced. Click on Fix Permissions.

Where is Multitouch?​

Unfortunately, there is no multitouch in this version of Icarus. However, it is very probable that it would be included in the future official Android 2.2 update.

Where is Apps2SD?​

Some apps have the ability to save to sd card. Some apps don't have that ability, like the Facebook app. You can find if an app has apps2sd ability by going into the apps page in the Market, but some apps don't say. If you download an app that has the apps2SD ability, it will download automatically to the SD Card. Also, you will not notice a change in the memory of the SD card even though you install apps in it because of the partition you made. To prove the feature, look for an app with apps2sd ability and check the phones memory before and after you istall the app and see if the phone memory changes.

Where is the 800 MHz Overclock?​

Unfortunately, this version of Icarus does not support overclocking more than 600 MHz. However, Icarus developer isaac is working on an overclock kernel. Once information becomes available, it will be immediately posted on the 5th post of this thread labeled " Updates."

The Date And Time is Incorrect​

You are probable using Launcher Pro. In the homescreen, press the Menu key>Preferences> General Settings>uncheck Motorola Droid hack> press Back key> select Restart Launcher Pro> press End Call key.

Many Other Issues Can Be Solved By Fixing Permissions In ClockworkMOD. PM Me If You Do Not Know How To Do That

UPDATES​

2/15- Lubification ROM, a spinoff of Icarus ROM, is no longer available due to technical difficulties

2/10-Sorry folks, but it appears that there will be no more updates for Icarus from isaac. A new developer is taking over the project and releasing the "next version" of Icarus, which will be named Lubification, in a few weeks. I know, the name is not that great, but it will reportedly have Flash player, but only up until version 2 and up. Expect many more features.
 
Thanks Joser, I saw that someone was getting hasty about you asking so many question but thats because they think everyone know what they know. The way you explained it hear is way more clear than what or how they state it in myacend.org. I had the same questions about cwm and the files that are in the folder once you unzip. Great job dude. I am still hesitant whether to try this or wait for the unofficial froyo rom they have( when they fix date and wifi) or just waiting till we get the official 2.2 update. I have cricket and i can flash back to stock but i know that won't save me everytime so I just make sure till stuff is tried and proven. Thanks dude.

It works. I will post screenshot. The instructions also show how to make a backup, so no worries.

Nope, it is not released yet for us, and I will not try the Chinese version. Also, how do you post the screenshots taken with the same app you use?

I take the screenshot and then transfer it to my PC and open up the SD card and open up Screenshots. Then I open it with whatever my default is: Paint Pro is what I have it set on now. But it doesn't matter. Whatever editor you have is fine. Then I save it to my desktop cause it's just easier to find that way.

Then I upload it to my Photobucket account (create a free one if you don't have one) and to post it here I create the post here and click on the little 'photo icon that says insert image when you mouse over it' after I have right clicked on my image in Photobucket and selected: copy image location.

Love the pictures you added. Is there a chance you or someone else could make a video of it running in action? If not, When I get my phone next month, I wouldn't mind doing that.
