Root How To Install The Icarus MOD

so i had to use the reboot now feature to get my phone up and running for work, dont know what if any permanent damage it did, however it does say no sd card when i try and take a picture or hook it up to my computer

You do not need to download the apps2sd app. It is embedded within the Icarus ROM. And if 768mb is an option, then go ahead and choose that. The reason for why 256mb is recommended is because the Ascend comes with 2GB SD card and choosing something like 768mb for partition will leave you a little over 1GB for you to use the SD card normally without running out of space. If you have a bigger capacity SD card, then 768mb is fine. However, if you have a 2GB SD card, it is not recommended to choose 768Mb for partition. Will get to your other problems soon.

Did you do the Back Up ROM step?
 
Ueah I did. Followed every step to the T, however I think when I went to put the icarus file on my sd card the 2 data files merged, the phone is now showing my sd in the phone, with all its folders, except according to the phone thetes no memory usage. Still cant get computer to see the sd card when mounted

I have seen that you have gotten up to the partitioning SD card step. Does that mean that you have solved this problem of Icarus not showing up in your SD card?
 
no i still cant get my computer to detect that the sd card is there when i mount my phone, havent gotten to the partition part yet. i am assuming that because all the files are still on my sd card i can use CWM to backup or rest it back to the back-up, if so how would i accomplish that. also should i delete the previous data file to allow the new one to go on the card if i get it working? or just rename one of them

So since your computer is not recognizing the SD card, you can not Restore your phone with the Clockworkmod backup you made according to the instructions. So what carrier are you in? Also, what 2 files do you think merged?
 
its a cricket carrier, i believe the data files merged, but have no way of knowing for sure, went into cwm and found the options to mount and format stuff, wondering if that might help

If you did not get to install Icarus in the first place, you should still have the original factory ROM. Just go into recovery and wipe data/factory reset, then wipe cache partiton, then reboot. OR If you didn't move the Backup to your compter and have not partitioned SD card then boot into Clockwork Mod by pressing volume up, call key, and power until the black screen comes out. Choose backup and restore, restore, and look for the backup you made, I believe it is named clockworkmod. Or if that doesn't work, go to Mounts and Storage and unmount and remount the sd card. If that doesn't work, the final solution is the Cricket Recovery ROM. in clockwork mod(black screen) go to Mounts and Storage and choose format sd card.PS Do you have an sd card reader
 
okay i successfully restored the old info/backup onto the phone(did do the part where it backed up on my computer, but never erased it from sd card) however the computer and phone no longer reckognize being connected to each other

The reason for why the backup didn't erase from your SD card is because you didn't get to the Partition your SD Card step. Partitioning erases all SD card data. Since you didn't partition, then then the backup remained on your phone. Are you in the original fatory ROM?
 
yes, and no sd reader, out of curiousity i tried connecting my phone ito my lab-top as well but its not reckognizing it either, however it is accepting the charge from a wall mount

OK, have you done the wipe data/ factory reset, then wipe cache partition in Clockwork mode(black screen, green letters)? If you do not know how to go into clockwork, power off phone, press and hold volume up, call key, and power until the black screen comes out.
 
would you perfer i pm you so we dont make this a 75 post topic or did you want me to keep this in the forum to help others that might make the same mistake. just did the wipe data /factory reset and the wipe partition, going to reboot phone now, hopefully this will let mt computer conntect with my phone

okay, after the wipe i still cant get my phone to mount to any device, and i cant get into the clockwork mod screen anymore. However the mount sd card option came up on my phone when i plugged it in to my laptop. After it said it installed the drivers( which it has previously) nothing popped up, i went into computer to try and find the path manually but came up with nothing. i am going to try restarting my computer to see if that helps my computer reckognize it maybe

OK, since wiping didn't work, you will need to flash the Cricket Recovery ROM. Before you do that, turn off your phone, take out sd card, turn phone on without sd card. Once phone is fully booted, turn phone back off. Insert your sd card and turn phone back on with the SD card. Now check to see if the phone recognizes the sd card by trying to take a picture.
 
ok so reseting my computer allowed my phone to connect to my comp and i can access the sd card now, shoud i delete my old data folder and put the icarus on on the sd card ?

Wait, do you still have clockwork mod? First, find the Icarus file you downloaded and move it to the main folder of your sd card.
 
yeah, apparently nothing was deleted from my sd card at all, its almost as though the last hour of me messing with it didnt take place at all, i dont get it. everything seems to have reset to the point of where i used the recovery from my back-up earlier. trust me your just as confused as i am.so should i start over from scratch- reDL icarus (deleting my data file thats on there and try again, or count my blessings that nothing is completely messed up and wait for 2.2 or something else to come along

Yes, to be safe, just delete the files and redownload Icarus, and start at the point in my instructions where it says " Finally the Instructions For Icarus." but remember to place the Icarus download in the main folder this time.

Official 2.2 will be coming for us at the end of March for the U.S. according to some users. Icarus is not 2.2 but it is just a modified version of 2.1. About your last question, I can not help you with that since I only know about Icarus and have not tried installing the Chinese 2.2 update. Sorry:) You will get a response for that question in the The Android 2.2!!Let's Update!!Download!!! forum(link after the break) but you will be better off just installing Icarus and waiting for the official 2.2 update. Icarus will help calm your thirst until the official update arrives.

i have no intention of dinstalling the chineese 2.2, am going to give icarus another shot. just hoping it works this time( as in i dont F anything up again.) btw thank you for your patience and understanding
