Root How To Install The Icarus MOD

ok...now the market crashes everytime....not sure whats going on

well after trying and re-trying everything, restarting clearing caches, uninstalling apps etc...even removed the marketplace update....it appears this is an issue with icarus

i can get online, check email, use pandora etc. yet the marketplace brings back network errors consistently now....not sure what happened or why...its been fine up until today



this may or may not be because of icarus.....it seems to be a common droid thing

If I recall correctly, isaac said it was because he replaced the default font with a different one. I can't remember where I saw it, but someone recommended using Absolute System Root Tools to put the old one back in, but I would imagine the same can be done with Root Explorer, as long as you can find the original font file.

I have the file at home on my PC, will try to get online tonight and post a link here for you.
 
I've had that happen randomly a couple of times as well. Try running the Fix Permissions script in ROM Manager if you have it installed, it might also take care of a few things, as mentioned elsewhere.
 
Ok, so I ran the MMS fix and everything seemed to work, but I am still unable to open pictures received via multimedia text. I keep getting a message saying "Download of message from ###-###-#### was unsuccessful."
Any ideas? Thanks
 
Tired of Market crashes but the installation was easy as cake so thanks for the instructions. Question is do i keep this or revert back...
 
Network Errors in the Market all the time, cant even download Pandora, wth guys. Im starting to get super frustrated with this rom.
 
My Review on Icarus

Well after i downloaded it and got it running i was just happy to have it in successfully. And then i began to have problems with the Market which i posted above. After much investigation i've concluded that the market works, its just a problem with Handcent SMS its not downloading right now and i think its a handcent problem as i could not do it from my computer with https://market.android.com/ so i figured had to be a problem on that end.

Apps2SD is running like a dream. I've been able to download more apps and i use this list here. http://androidforums.com/android-applications/105650-froyo-apps-2-sd-list.html

I love that feature i have maybe 35 more megabytes on my phone than i did with the stock rom, and better yet i have more apps!!! All in all i gotta give this four thumbs up, and i'm glad i have it. Thanks guys for working on it, for dealing with our incessant complaints and more!

I am echoing the above problems with MMS, i did just as ordered TWICE and its till not working. If anyone can help me get that back i'd be appreciative. I love this ROM, i hate to revert back because of this.

That's the exact same file that is posted at MyAscend, in the link I posted. I pulled it straight from my phone and uploaded it, as I wasn't at home to grab the exact same file and upload it from my PC.

It seems that different people have different problems. I've seen reports of some Icarus installs having a lot of issues, some with no issues, some that seem like one-off problems that are unexplainable. I personally have had one random GUI reboot, FC's with Beautiful Widgets (always when doing something else as well, like browsing or playing a game), might have had one FC with Market, and an occasional app here or there that fails to install. I was able to install Angry Birds on my phone, but the install fails on my wife's phone, for example.

If all else fails, as much of a pain in the ass as it may be, I would suggest wiping everything out and installing Icarus again before giving up on it. The most important thing to remember when you're testing something out is to check all of your most-used functions before trying to get everything setup just the way you like it.

Ok so I installed Icarus and loved it!!! I was just about to post how much I loved it when the Menu button on the phone stopped working. I called my local Metro store and they said just to bring the phone in. So needless to say I need to restore from my backup. I see that this is how you do it but do I have to wipe data or anything like that before I do it?
 
I don't think you'll have to wipe anything, as you'll be overwriting the current image with your old one. However, if you want to play it safe, then booting into recovery and doing the data wipe before restoring your backup probably won't hurt.
 
The only problem with Icarus that i have is the MMS, but because its so awesome every other way i can deal without MMS until someone makes a 2.2 port!
 
Joser - Is there a fix for the mms problem? I love the icarus mod and have had it for two days now. I have just developed the mms problem as it wasn't there before just a bit agho when the phone rebooted today. I must have added an application that triggered something and will have to go back and check that out. Other than that, a beautiful program and excellent instructions for installation. Where can I find the mms fix?

I have prepared for this. The MMS is present from the time you install Icarus. There is a fix, and it is found in the 3rd post of this thread I believe. It says Troubleshooting in big red letters.

I'm trying to unstall the icarus mod but when i tried to run the fast reboot it gave me this message "application failed to start because AdbWinApidll was not found. reinstalling the application may fix this"......HELP please!!!! what do I do?
