Root How To Install The Icarus MOD

Here is the fix directly from isaac:
Not too sure what's going on with Mms. I wanted to get rid of the nasty Mms app that Huawei put by default and use the clean stock 2.1 version. I guess I'll release a new version that reverts back to the Huawei version. I'll be damned if that thing ain't ugly though.

As for what you can for now? Just flash back the old one using adb. Download the apk in the attachments below. This apk is special because Joe themed it to match the rest of Icarus.

adb remount


adb push path/to/downloaded/Mms.apk /system/app

Im confussed.. lol.. i was actually talking about the MMS fix.. and tryin to use another app other than root explorer to install it. (looking for a Free one)

That is the alternative fix to the one using Root Explorer. I told you it was going to be more complicated. Other than that, there is no other fix. However, you can search for rootexplorer.apk in google and try to find a free download link. I do not guarantee you will find one though.

still no luck, the command isnt be executed or recognized at all, it says the system cannot find the path specified on the first step. and all other steps arent being recognized as well.

So your problem is that your computer doesn't recognize the phone?
 
Alright, I had it working this morning cause I found an adapter for the MicroSD card. After it got setup I opened the app Market and the phone froze and restarted itself. Then like last night, it got stuck at the blue "abldroid" boot screen. Since then I've restored the backup and will try again tonight :P.

Your advice was helpful joser and thanks a lot. I'll post feedback about everything tonight.
 
Same here. My Metro Ascend only works when it is actually on and not in the recovery mode(where it stays on the huawei screen). When its plugged in normally the Huawei mini window pops up, giving you options to uninstall the mobile drvers, do a file transfer, or look at the Huawei pdf manual. Should we try using the 'E' path instead of 'C'? (I'm using Windows 7 with a laptop that has SD card access)
 
OKAY EVERYONE, it seems like Metro users are the ones having the problems. It is time for me to consult isaac. Hold up.....
 
usb is now not working. After getting the cwm 2.xxx the pc will no longer read the usb. Any help please. Got icarus downloaded on pc and got past the cwm 2.xxx but now i have no way to install icarus.Thanks in advance

Disconnect phone from PC, restart PC, reconnect phone AFTER PC fully boots. Turn phone on, and mount.
 
So this doesn't have the multi-touch capabilities? Would that be a firmware problem or a hardware problem in which case even waiting for 2.2 wouldn't help?

so i couldnt get my phone to connect to computer, so i did a factory reset, can somebody take me threw the steps to getting it back working.

I have clockworkmod on my phone. the software is installed.

Funny thing but there was no glitch at all. Metro instructions are the same as the Cricket instructions. There have been dozens of people who have successfully installed Icarus. The people who are having problems obviously did something wrong in the process. However, as of now, the instructions for flashing Clockwork v.2.xxx.xx are very general since I have been very busy to be more specific. In fact, once I finish writing this post, I will take away the Metro warning and make the clockwork mod instructions easy to carry out for even newbies.

No multitouch capabilities. It is a software issue that is highly likely to be addressed in the official Android 2.2 Update.
 
ANYONE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE COMPUTER RECOGNIZING THE PHONE, turn off the phone and boot into ClockworkMod by pressing and holding Volume UP, Call Key, and Power Button. Then select Mounts and Storage and select mount USB storage.

Backing joser here.

Still running Icarus on my Metro Ascend with no issue. Applied the MMS fix and it is now functioning. Follow the directions to the letter and there should be no issues.
