Help HOW TO: Installing Froyo 2.2

some people are asking how to go back and i have a question with that.

cant you just take the "2.1 update.zip" (or whatever it may be called) and just re do the steps you did for 2.2?

I have a few questions before I update. I can't hold out any longer and I'm hoping that I don't run into trouble and have to flash the sbf. Here are a few questions maybe someone will be so kind to answer for me pleaseeeeee.

1. Do i have to move the su file back to the bin after update or will it work in the xbin the same way?
2. Should I wipe data cache somehow (gotto look up how to do it again) before update or is that only if i sbf flash?
3. What does factory reset do exactly (delete apps that i have put on, contacts, messages, ect.,)?

I am rooted using easyroot on 2.1, have lpp installed and ha e changed my icon pics. No themes or roms. I backed up data and apps with titanium. I have never removed any bloatware.
4. What would be the best way for me to update.

Thanks

You must move the SU file if you want to maintain root status.

2. Should I wipe data cache somehow (gotto look up how to do it again) before update or is that only if i sbf flash?

To wipe: Hold Pwr + Home Button then Select "Wipe Data/Factory Reset".

However, you only NEED to do this if you flash the SBF. Also, if you have deleted any of the pre-installed apps you will get an error when attempting to update, in which case you will have to SBF flash.

3. What does factory reset do exactly (delete apps that i have put on, contacts, messages, ect.,)?

Factory Reset will delete all info on the phone; it won't touch your SD Card. So messages (Other than voice mail), contacts, and apps will be wiped clean. However, Google has your contacts backed up so they will be restored after signing into your google account, post-wipe.

Also, any purchased from the market will be available to re-install via the Market -> Downloads menu.

4. What would be the best way for me to update.

Well, if you want to keep your Apps and Messages, and you haven't deleted any stock apps, you will probobly be best just upgrading w/o a wipe.

However, it's really just preference. Some would argue that wiping the phone pre-update make the phone faster, and some would dispute this. Really it's your call.

All the best,
Eric

Thank you very much! I tried to move my su with astro but it wont let me paste it in the xbin after i hit move from the bin
: / do i have to purchase root explorer?

I have it hosted for everyone to grab whenever they want.. but I wont post it until a mod pm's me and gives me the okay.

Oh, we're not supposed to post links to the update? Well shoot, I need to read the stickies more.

EDIT- I didn't see anything in the stickies. Could you link me to the post you are referring? Thanks!

Just did the update to my DX. Used Astro to move file to root of SD card. Install went smooth. Straight from phone download of the file to complete install 10 minutes over 3g, and to confirm, flash came with the install.

Quad benchmark came out to be 1.3-4. Not much difference in speed wise from 1.1.

Did a search in this thread - didn't find anything....

Has anyone had trouble getting the green light for text notifications to work since 2.2? I use the launcherpro icon to see text messages.

I had errors applying the update and found that the update.zip I had downloaded was the wrong one. Make sure the file is around 67M - this is the correct file.

Sorry if this was already posted, but does anyone else have problems playing MP3s after installing 2.2?

EDIT: Never mind, restarted my phone and now it all seems to work.

i have tried downloading it onto my droid x i got it on using mass storage into the first folder when i did the reboot screen it said something along the lines of E: process not right and then cancelled the download. i tried getting it in using PC mode but it will not go into the folder says the device has been disconnected where it is clearly connected.

any help?=\

I'm kind of confused at exactly what you're saying here..

You should download the update.zip on a computer, then set your phone to "USB Mass Storage Device" then navigate to it through "My Computer" (or drive on Mac) and then copy the update.zip file to the SD Card.

Just put it on the SD card, don't put it in any folders or anything.

If it's in the right place, when you open "Files" on the Phone and select "Phone Files", it should open the directory in which your update.zip should be located.

it is there just won't load when i do the power(home button) reset gives me that error message.

E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (no such file or directory)
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

I'm going to try to erase it out of the files and re load it. maybe that'll work

No, you just place the update.zip file onto the root of your entire SD card and then do the recovery boot on your phone (home+power key)

My install went fine. Done in 5 minutes or so. However, my phone is rebooting like crazy now. I'm not sure if it's a specific app that's not playing nice or what. Anyone else getting this?
